Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

What the hell is wrong with you and your merry band of inflammatory knee jerkers? Poch put out a side that he thought could beat a weakened Ar5ena1 squad, end of. Bar a few slices of bad luck and poor decisions, we very nearly did. We dominated the second half and I believe Poch had every confidence the squad he put out today could do the job.

If he had of played a full-strength squad and we got dingdonged, then went on to get hammered by City at the weekend, the knives would have well and truly been out! As it stands now I think we have a good chance to take it to City on Saturday despite the disappointment of the cup defeat.

Poch was in a lose-lose situation and I think he handled it about as well as he could have. The inclusion of Fazio is an easy one to jump all over, sure he hasn't featured for some time but you don't see our training sessions, you don't know what kind of form he's had away from the pitch, so again I have faith in Poch's judgment. Fazio went on to have a pretty poor match but that **** happens, to any player.

The people jumping all over Poch's team selection have so obviously been waiting, frothing at the mouth to sink the boots in, it makes me sad to be a Spurs fan on occasions like this. Losing to the Gooner scum isn't the primary cause of said sadness.

I haven't said a bad word against Poch before now. Not one word. For a year and half. And I was, and remain willing to wait another year before judging him, if that's what's necessary -ask around if you feel I'm lying.

'Merry band of inflammatory knee jerkers?'

'Obviously been waiting, frothing at the mouth to sink the boots in'.

This, this is the reaction to people getting angry at having lost a game (or, more accurately, thrown a f*cking game) against our arch-rivals because Poch didn't give a brick about trying his very best to beat them.

Christ, what is f*cking wrong with you, insinuating things about honest, tinkled-off people and acting self-righteous about being a Spurs fan?

It does genuinely tinkle me off sometimes, to the point where I feel very, very tempted to not bother with trying to convince myself that you (and people like you, willing to jump on your fellow supporters for daring to be disappointed and tinkled off) actually support the same club I do.

Are you actually sad at all about having lost to Arsenal, our rivals? Do you actually give one single damn about Tottenham Hotspur, or did you just follow Poch from S'oton?

Because you don't want to be associated with your fellow fans, are exceedingly happy (even suspiciously gleeful) to stick the knife into them and proclaim yourself superior at the slightest opportunity, and losing to Arsenal is an afterthought when compared to salivating at the opportunity to wildly accuse people of being lesser fans than yourself because they feel hurt by what's happened, instead of just feeling gleeful at having the chance to try being odiously superior on the internet.

Seriously, have a look in the goddamn dimly-lit mirror, and ask yourself if you aren't exactly what you accuse others of being. You've been waiting all this time to stick the boot into your fellow fans, after f*cking all.

Christ, I disagree vehemently with some people on this forum, but I thoroughly respect them because they care about the club and about their fellow fans. I disagree even more vehemently with parklane1, but even though I feel he doesn't read what I say before jumping in with a standard pre-prepared response, I still feel he doesn't consider himself a class above his fellow fans, and that earns my respect.

But people who store up their gleeful vitriol against fellow supporters angry and upset about a loss, just to feel superior and odiously self-righteous..GHod, I find it difficult to come to terms with the idea that these people care about the same club I do and the same fans that I do.

Poch did try his very best to beat them! Look I get that you're tinkled off, we all are, but a tiny pinch of rationality is required here.

I haven't been waiting for anything, I'm just sick and tired of the bitching and moaning that goes on around here. Some people seriously need to get a grip.

So you're willing to wait one more year? Hah! How patient of you.. That's a summation of the modern football fan right there.. Throw it all out, start all over again. Rinse and repeat, bitch and moan about the next manager when not bitching and moaning about the way the club is run.

It's the incessant negativity that I can't stomach. It's pathetic and that's where I'll leave it.

Pochettino has not done himself any favour by fielding a weak team against Arsenal. It is going to be a black mark for him if we don't do well in the league this season.

I have some advice, and I'm pleading that you take it: if you're sick of the negativity around the place, you can mention it without resorting to blaming your fellow supporters for things as ludicrous as 'waiting to stick the boot in'. If you do that, you're a grade A arse as far as I'm concerned, and it subsequently becomes hard to swallow the notion that you actually care about the club or its fans in any way, shape or form. It's also grating that you choose this particular time (right after we've lost to Arsenal) to complain about negativity...but that's ultimately more understandable than wanting to disassociate yourself from people who care about the same things you do because of a (mio) truly vile sense of self-superior smugness.

We are all Spurs fans. We all care for this club. Stop accusing people of 'waiting to stick the boot in', and similar rot: especially when you yourself do much the same thing, only directed at the average joes around you and not the multi-million pound superstars on the field whose connection to the club will be tenuous at best (for most of them, anyway).

Sigh. As for your complaints about the 'modern football fan', Pochettino is on a five year contract , and will be into the third year of his contract at the start of next season. If it takes two years to get his philosophy up and running (something I can totally get, even if it does jar with recent history in the Premier League where several of the better managers have performed to their peak in less time than that), fine. But if, 60% of the way through his long 5-year contract (which is what he will be come the end of next season) he still hasn't shown that he can take the club forward beyond its constraints, then yes, absolutely I'd want a decision to be made on keeping him or letting him go. That isn't anything to do with the 'modern football fan' (as you sneeringly refer to it), it's a case of a manager being more than halfway through his time at the club and not having much to show for it (if the situation warrants that description, of course).

Still, that is an opinion, and you are entitled to yours on the matter if you feel that three years isn't enough time for a manager to get his philosophy and team up and running. And that is an opinion that I can respect, even if I disagree with it: an opinion that holds your fellow fans in contempt, however, is not worth the breath it would take to sneer at it, and raises other, more unsettling questions.

And as for Pochettino trying his best to beat them, here's what 'trying his best' would have looked like:

Starting eleven:

----------------------------Lloris--------------------------

Walker--------Toby---------------Verts-----------Rose

------------------Dier----------------Alli------------------

Lamela-----------------Eriksen---------------------Son/Chadli

----------------------------Kane----------------------------

Is that what we got? No, we got a second eleven against our dearest rivals. So, don't tell me he tried his best. He didn't. He had better, because I doubt he understands what this derby means to the fans, and that is knowledge that a Tottenham manager should have as standard.

Barely...or am I not being 'mad' enough that we lost to them? Nice to see this place has returned to form...

Christ, you think this place is too negative for your liking? Steff, I hate to break it to you, but this is one of the more considered places on the Spurs-supporting web, mate. Try TFC, and tell me we're the angry ones. Apart from r/coys (full of relentlessly cheerful Americans) and VitalSpurs, I think this place is one of the most sedate Spurs sites on the web. :p

Yes and the fantastic mod team here have worked hard to not see this place slide into the troll-fest that is TFC and other such places. Funny lot over there, they consistently violate my one rule of internet; only say on the net what you'd say to someone's face in a pub. That's it really mate. Cheer up too BTW, trust me, this season will have some great moments...

Just like the mods to withhold the credit from us upstanding, self-policing posters. :p

I'm glad you agree with me about this place: I still malinger around here because I've found GG to be the perfect combination of dissenting opinions, honesty and civility, and there are far worse places I only lurk on at best (TFC, for example). It isn't so bad, our little community. And thanks for the advice, mate: I'll try to cheer up, although today is likely going to be the post-rage 'listless' day, so no promises. :p Like I said a long time ago now, I'm learning to love the little things: Kane and Mason coming through and making us all proud, the happiness I feel when hearing a chant from the Lane on the TV, the feel of a fresh beer after a win like the one against Palace. But it will take al long, long, long time, and in between, brick like what went on yesterday will still hurt, and hurt immensely.

And he can afford to do so, because his 2nd string is much better than our 2nd string - more experienced, and with more quality. Still, if they lost after fielding a second string in a derby game, I'd imagine their fans wouldn't be too happy either: although at least they know that Wenger understands what the derby's about, which is something we still can't say for our own manager.

It was an even game which could have gone either way, seems to me Poch either picked a team that matched it's opponents for quality or motivated them enough to bridge the gap - either way the melodrama from some is astounding, though in fairness is a little understandable seeing a as we just lost to Arsenal...I'd hope after sleeping on it they'd see it differently

The most worrying thing of all for me is that Poch clearly wanted to rest players but still had to play (an absolutely knackered looking) Kane up front. With that in mind much as I hate losing any game, especially one against Arsenal, it is probably a blessing in disguise that we were knocked out of the Cup last night.

I think we are just giving Kane every chance to score and get that worry off his shoulders, I'm sure he'll get his rest

agree, absolutely bizarre

So on one hand Poch has people complaining that he didn't field the strongest possible team against Arsenal. On the other hand he has people complaining because he didn't rest our best striker.

The man can't win............

Unfortunately football has become so ruined by money that the cold hard facts are the league cup isn't that big a deal anymore to the clubs. Managers are under so much pressure to do well in the league (because that's where the money's at) that they don't play strong teams in the early stages and hope that they somehow make it through to the semi's and then take things serious.

If the game had been Liverpool verses United or United verses City or any of the other big rivalries you would have seen the same thing. Two borderline reserve teams trying to beat each other.

Don't blame Poch, blame football in general.

because the Europa was a bigger deal

even if you win the worthington cup you don't win anything

it's a shame we lost, but really, it's a minor thing, not the most pointless tournament we are in, but certainly the second most

Well last year our fans were pretty happy about the run in this pointless cup and Poch got a lot of brownie points for guiding us past a pretty average set of teams up to the final (Forest,Brighton,Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Sheff United). Suddenly we lose is in pretty poor circumstances and its no big deal anyway? With regards to the Europa tie last Thurs - they must be one of the worst sides in the competition and we could definitely afford to rest players for that particular game.

The Carling Cup still represents our best chance of having any sort of glory and frankly we have next to no chance of doing anything in the Europa League anyway. We are too naive and inexperienced against decent European oppo and we will struggle if we make it out of the group. Also if this side did get into Champions League we wouldn't make it out of the group so in my eyes winning a cup and building a team is a great aim to have.

I think the cups represent our best opportunity to do something this year because in my eyes this side is way off the top 4 and our lack of depth in key areas mean we might actually struggle in the second half of the season. I am not throwing my toys, but some of the selections and tactics last night were poor from Poch.

Like I said earlier the team picked last night matched their opponents and were motivated for the occasion - not a lot wrong there.

it's important to rotate at this stage of the season in our circumstance as with EL participation games come thick and fast - especially this year when we have a very tricky group stage with teams we can't take lightly, the fact it was a tight game last night and one we had as much chance of winning as Arsenal justifies that IMV

I enjoyed that as well, but i'm looking at things in a positive manner, also i'd say that carrier bag caused our "first team" more problems than arsenal did to our "half first team" last night

it is what it is, had we won the game I don't think anyone would be criticising the selection, they coach the other guy's too

no, if Poch chose to rest key players in order to give them a rest ahead of the City game, to rotate the squad, and this was the reason for selecting that side last night, then it didnt make sense to select Kane who has been practically ever present this season so far and has led the line up front on his own with all the effort that entails. Its just an observation
