Saido Berahino

Like others i think that if we went in now with a 25m (ish) offer made up of cash plus a player, they'd take it, but if Levy thinks he can wait until 3pm on Tuesday and then offer £20m cash, i think he'll be told to f***-off. I genuinely think their chairman would rather take £18m in January from someone else rather than slightly more than that from Levy now.
We just don't do transfers in the way other 'big' clubs seem to. I know, i know, we're in net profit blah blah, but they're in the Champions League. Effectively you ave to decide which you want. As i've said more than once recently, the way things are going we are going to be known as the club with the nicest stadium in the Europa League, because that's where we'll be staying if we don't sign some players of sufficient quality to get us ahead of one of last years top 4.

njie, son, kane are all capable of playing upfront.

austin would be a good signing to fall back on for 15m imv.

According to German expert Raphael Honigstein, Son is not a central striker, his natural positions are on the wing or as a number 10. He actually likened him to Lamela, which I found a little concerning. Interestingly, Son was sold because they have found a replacement who they think will be as good as Son but cost a third of the price they sold Son for.

You're right we don't do transfers like Chel53a, city, utd, liverpool, I wonder why that is?

But you don't have to spend tens and tens of millions. Pedro cost what, £21m? Depay about the same?
I would have been happy this summer if we'd sold the players we have plus Lamela and Lennon and brought in the players we have plus Berahino and a DM for a net spend of about £10m, but to have got it done before now. 2 points from 9. 4 points dropped from two very winnable fixtures. If we finish 5th by 3 points, it is a f***-up I'm afraid.
But it's where we are with Levy. Thinks he's a better financial strategist than anyone else, leaves it to the last minute EVERY time. Some times it works and sometimes it really doesn't.
Oh to be a club where with 5 days to the close of the window we were saying "it'd be nice to have an extra X or Y" rather than "we still desperately need a striker and a DM".

Hopefully Lamela is on his way, and from what I've read about Son he doesnt seem like a Kane back-up so hopefully there is a CF to follow

We don't need Berahino when we got Son. They're very similar players. I would prefer if we went for someone a bit different, and preferably more experienced. Someone like Klose would be great imo.

He is a wide fwd player - much like Chadli and NJie, will play wide fwd, attack the opposition in between the CB and FB and get in behind when the play is on the other side of the pitch or Kane drops deep.

Berahino is proven in this country, scoring 20 goals last season, and has a successful past teaming up with Kane at under 21 level. He can play as a central striker, a number 10 or as a wing forward and he is use to this league. But if we do not sign him we DO need someone else.

1. If we miss 4th by 3 points it will not solely be down to the lack of signings made by the start of the season. There are 34 games still to play, a January transfer window and a number of injuries that will happen. There are no guarantees that new signings will be successful, and indeed they can sometimes work against you e.g. Soldado et al;
2. It's not just the money that has meant we cannot compete with the big boys. We had zero chance of signing Depay or Pedro at the beginning or middle of the transfer window. These players will always nearly always wait for CL teams first and foremost;
3. Levy is a better financial strategist than most;
4. Levy does not leave it to the last minute EVERY time (see below); and
5. It would be great to be at a club where 5 days to the close of the window we are saying those things. However, we are not in the position to dictate the market and Arsenal, despite their wealth, have made one signing. One.

So in the hope of bringing some facts to the conversation; since the 2011/12 season Spurs have made 33 signings. Of those 33 signings, 15 were made either in the last 2 days of the January window, or after the season has started in the summer. If I were to put the cut-off as the last 7 days of the summer transfer window, that goes down to 12.

I didn't go any further because I couldn't be arsed, but if anyone else wants to have a go because they think I am cherry picking, then please go ahead and update.

The german teams do seem to unearth a lot more younger talent than we do and don't seem to buy a lot of the "finished article" apart from Bayern. I would think that there would be some benefit to examine if that is the case and if so why.

Poor old Charlie Austin, everybody's last resort. He'll have plenty of offers on Tuesday, I reckon. I think he'll want to play though, so would his preferred option be to come here to play second fiddle to Harry Kane? Not too sure about that one.

Chelsea are trying to spend upwards of £40 on stones and they've drop points so it's not as if they only DL is doing it. Nor is he wrong to

Not just Chelsea, but Emirates Marketing Project and Man United as well. Arsenal are as well with just Cech to show so far. Liverpool are the only club imho who have managed to get their deals done early and that was because all the cards just seemed to fall into place according to their own CEO.

I think the whole "used to the league"-factor is a bit excaggerated. Plenty of flops have been from pl club to pl club. In our case Pienaar, Bent, Bentley are just some examples.

It is a bit transparent, I agree: especially when he says 'we can't replace him in this amount of time', having already bought both Rondon and Lambert to add to the already existing pair of Anichebe and last season's record signing Ideye.

Ideye and Anichebe are sh!te and for sale, Lambert and Rondon will play centre forward, Berahino will be one of the wide forwards for Pulis. They want to keep him if no one offers a mega bid.

All Saido has to do is refuse a contract and he goes for relative peanuts next summer, maybe even a slightly cheaper deal in January.

not if he has a brilliant season scoring plenty and assisting too. Its a chance Brom are taking. A great season and one of the top 4 will offer over 35 mill definitely

I would also add that why put this detail in today? He could have said all of this in the press release yesterday. Instead, and again it's only imho, it's gone public that we are in for someone else, Berahino is tinkleed, and he's trying to remove the pressure that is on him.

he is communicating with the fans of he club. I dont see a problem with it
