I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Pochettino put Lamela under undue pressure by bringing him on for Kane against Stoke. You know the expectations are going to be high for whoever coming on for Kane. Not surprisingly, Lamela had a poor match after coming on. Besides, Lamela's main strength is in creating chances for others, not scoring goals or defending.

Looking at the video on the OS from the two on two training, he looks so calm and slick on the ball.

Why cant he bring that to matches? His skills evaporate even when not pressured in matches

Hmmm, and everyone says Soldado always looked the bolloсks in training as well. Everyone scratching their heads and saying they couldn't understand what the matchday issue was with him. There's only one explanation. Ju-ju.

If Lamela has the ability to be a star in the premier league and is struggling for form and confidence then it is partly the managers responsibility to help him achieve this. I think personally if it wasn't for the 30 million price tag he would have been put up for sale by now.

Saying that I do hope he comes good

In a two v two training match where you constantly have touches and as a professional you can bring out your skills. Also in the video does he look super composed compared to say Pritchard or Harrison even? Every Spurs footballer would be a beast in small sided games due to their skill and composure - 11 a side games are a different kettle of fish and it becomes far more tactical and about using your brain, match nous and confidence.

Drills like that would have little bearing on his performances in training games or match day games and even by taking a goal he scores in a training drill would have no bearing on the performance he will inevitably dish out again this Sat.

I am pretty sure that came from some ITKs and players who will obviously toe the party line. End of the day we don't know and my guess would be that he pretty much was discarded by two different managers who I believe would have given him more chances if he constantly stood out in training and looked like he was on fire. I am not saying her was brick but that seemed like a line of justification from various people and in the end of the day we dont know.

I think Soldado's own comments since joining his new club has shown that he was just devoid of any confidence whatsoever, so it was the right move for him to leave. On the face of it he was a goal scorer when we signed him and for whatever reason it just didn't work out. Won't be the first striker that it has happened to and won't be the last.

What, not ju-ju then? ;)

Undue pressure by bringing him in as a sub while leading comfortably 2-0 midway through the second half?

I can hardly think of a lower pressure situation.

About as useful as me being great on FIFA, but unable to reproduce it in a football match.
Sorry Erik, but time to hit the departure lounge!

100% right

The only pressure he had was between his ears as judging by the way he played his brain wasn't functioning correctly

Wow, this is on a GB level.

His main strength is doing his hair and taking piccies for instagram.

Football is not a strength.

After two years at Spurs, if Lamela genuinely can't handle the pressure of being brought on as a substitute at home to Stoke when we are 2-0 up... no matter who he's coming on for; that's a real worry.

Actually, I suspect the pressure to succeed may well have gotten the better of Lamela (but I don't think it's got anything to do with having to replace Harry Kane for 25 minutes on Saturday). To me he always looks like he's trying that little bit too hard. Like he's aware of the weight of that transfer fee (which wasn't his fault). The way he lunges into tackles and his clear anger at himself when he messes up (sadly a bit too often) gives me the impression that he probably isn't going to be a success for us at this stage. Which is sad.

And this is all just pure flimflam speculation based on seeing the guy play (mostly on TV) for the past couple of years.

he's not going to cut it in the Prem (2 weeks to prove me wrong sonny!!!!)

If Juve make the offer, it'll be better for all - and we have 17 inside right forwards now anyway (they seem to be the new right-back).

If he was going to make it, I think it would have been as a no 10 (or the Beardsley role, as men of my age would accurately liken him to). Don't think thats going happen, with Eriksen and so many other out of position N10's wanting to play there though (i.e. Mason, Carroll - according to Poch, Chadli, Pritchard, Dembele - if Poch stops the RW experiment, etc)

I think I could handle the pressure of playing 30 minutes for a team in the lead at home, if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.

If he can't handle coming on as a sub whilst leading at home then I worry when bringing him on against tougher opposition when we are under the cosh or losing.

But he's only had one full season according to some.
