I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

He's been poor these last two games. I struggle to see how he will fit in the matchday squad when Pritchard and N'jie start to break through.

you can tell that he will never succeed here, not entirely his fault.

What is his fault though???

Irrelevant of his price tag he needs to actually do a job

He came on today and was virtually wandering around like a headless chicken

The guy doesn't need people making excuses for him. He is a professional and an international yet regularly plays like a kid

Been here two years and doesnt seem to have to settled or be on the upward curve

This season is definitely his final chance - if he doesnt even have an ok season, then he's finished.

He doesn't seem to me to want to succeed at all. Doesn't seem to show any desire on the pitch to make it look like he is trying to come good. Flog him back to the mediocre Italian league, he seems to enjoy it there.

Saw both goals again there on MOTD. Lamela had nothing to do with either of them.
First one was Ireland in midfield passed it past Dier into the Stoke player who Alderwiereld fouls.
Second one Eriksen is on the right, Lamela is over on the left after they have swapped over. Ireland goes back Walker and crossed it in to Diouf that loses both centre halfs.

He shows a lot of desire to be fair, but his confidence is shot. He came on at a difficult time against Stoke. Ran his nuts off, when all he really needed to do was defend well, then break once we regained some control. If we can sell him for a reasonable amount he could go.

The only thing in his favour is his age. He's still very young and should develop.

First goal was a silly pen

Second goal IIRC came from an attack where lamella lost the ball around the half way line and the went forward from it

The problem with lamella was he didn't win tackles, he didn't hold the ball up and he tarely found a spurs player with a pass

His only positive contribution was neat and tidy hair

He may have had nothing to do with the goals but playing with him was at best like playing with 10 men

I think he's still rusty and behind in terms of fitness. Poor game today, but he'll come good eventually this season imo

Fitness didnt hamper Kane too much for the time he was on

Mason looked lively and has had less pre season than Lamella

The guy simply is not capable of playing in this league

It's the same as Soldado in that he could well thrive ins a slow league but in ours he looks pedestrian

Speak English please..;)

True, but they play in different positions and i'm sure Mason looked livelier than, say, Bentaleb of last week. Plus there are no doubt some other players who DID play more pre-season minutes than Mason who also looked less lively than Mason. Maybe we simply have to credit Mason, period.

Time will tell, but unlike Soldado, time IS on Lamela's side...

Lamella will not get time in a spurs shirt

I wouldn't be surprised to see him swapped for someone like Lorente now

He is that bad that even the blind guy who goes with a small blonde lady helper was saying how bad he was in the cue for the train. He can't even see and he knows how bad this guy is

I can't agree about Lamella and Mason playing different positions as there both ultimately midfielders and masons is the one that needs the most fitness. But yeah I agree we should credit Mason for a strong performance

Finally run out of patience with Lamela. Chocolate teapot would be more use in this league. You need pace or creativity or goals or a physical presence and Eric Lamela has none of them. In a slower league, or the Europa league fine, but he will NEVER amount to anything in this league. Sooner we sell, the better for all concerned. Come to the view after today's game that the guy is a complete and utter waste of space.

@Bedfordspurs i would be shocked if by Mid-December Lamela's performances are as bad as today. However, if they are i would agree with you that perhaps his time would be up. However, swapped for Llorente??

Lol @ your blind supporter joke

Could have played Trippier to cover Walker.

That is a very good thought..Trippier would have been a smart move.....

Wrong thread .. but yes, Walker was tentative due to yellow, they were targeting us and trippier's balls into the box would have given Stoke something to think about.

We could have even put Trippier behind Walker to double up the defense on the right side.

Back to this thread, Lamela has run out of time, time to cut losses this window.

My Lamela switch tripped tonight. I was desperately hoping he would come good but now I've had a change of heart. I don't want him on the pitch.
I'll gladly eat my hat if his form picks up but he just doesn't get the lack of time you get in this league. I thought at the end of last season for a few matches he was moving the ball quicker and taking the obvious pass. That spell of good decision making has disappeared and now he is back to the player who started last season.

Do you think we'd be better off selling now or sending him on loan to Serie A for the season in the hope of getting a higher fee next summer?
