Anyone remember that Bale chap?

You do realise he had a broken leg in the first season we got 4th place and missed most of it.

On a different note how fickle are their fans, they were chanting his name near enough every game from March onwards last season and now they are attacking his car and booing him constantly.

As parklane1 says, Modric started 21 league games in 2009/10 plus came off the bench in a further 4...

So do people still think there's a conspiracy against Bale not to pass to him? :p Missed 3 fantastic chances and had the fewest touches of any Madrid outfield player in the first half.

I think it's inevitable that they will sell him to United.

Apparently Bale had 11 more touches of the ball (50 v 39) plus over twice the shot attempts (7 v 3) of Ronaldo last night...

Perhaps, after a couple of exceptional seasons for Bale, his shooting is showing some regression toward the mean...

I'm indifferent to Bale. I certainly hold no grudges that he left (although the way he left did leave a lot to be desired), you can't blame a player for wanting to play for Real Madrid. But some people still love him almost as if he still plays for Spurs, I find it a bit strange.

I agree, why is this thread still here, its not as if he was with us for 10 years or was born in edmonton or something, the boy should learn the lingo though or he won't settle there

Yeah I'm not saying learning a language is easy, but you would think he would have learnt the basics in just under two years, you know, things like "pass me the ball" "the most important thing is the 3 points" and various other cliches that footballers churn out.

Not really. All i meant to say was that he chose a club and can now stay there. Or go somewhere else. Or do whatever the fudge he wants, it doesn't interest me, he is not a Tottenham player anymore. English is my 3rd language, it probably got lost in translation.

You're making too many assumptions, but if you think that I care about Bale because I left a comment on a forum about him then so be it. Truth is, the only time i watch football for the past year is when Tottenham plays as my interest has switched to other sports. The only time I hear about Bale is on this forum.

Okay, if that's what you meant then fair enough, but from words chosen in your post it's definitely not how it came across! I will say that your third language is at a higher level than mine if that is the case, but be careful with certain idioms and phrases you might think are appropriate. If you are 8 years old and trying to antagonize your older brother, using the old "calm down" might work a treat, but it's not a phrase that grown ups tend to use unless they are wind up merchants.

People get upset when I take meanings from the definitions of the words chosen, what have I assumed other than the information you have posted? The biggest assumption is from yourself and others who'll be up in arms over headlines, it's not surprising that you haven't followed Bale or Real Madrid particularly closely, I had guessed as much and how you've chosen to answer points that I have not made was fairly predictable from the off as that's a good defense mechanism for those without well informed opinions.

It's the general football thread in case you haven't seen the title, I'd go as far as saying the placing of thread is impeccable, being that it is football related and as not directly linked to Spurs it would be a general football subject.

Have you had the chance to analyze Mr Bale's language skills one to one? Seems like you have a thorough understanding of the matter, are you providing tuition to him at this point in time? I'd be very interested to know how he's doing but am not stupid enough to fully believe a throwaway line in a brick article in the metro, for example. Please update me if you can

If there was a unicorn in the sky that could grant wishes and we could afford to get Gareth back, and he wanted to come back, I would take him with arms open all day. Still very proud that he played in our colours and no ill-feeling towards him at all. Same with Modders, two of Madrid's best players (in Modric I actually think their most important) played for Spurs in recent times. I hope one day we can reach a level of success and stature where players of the same ilk have no reason to want to move to win cups and medals.

What do you mean if?

I don't see the problem with using "he made his bed" in this case. You defined it yourself as " links with negative after effects after a decision has been taken". Has he not had negative effect since he joined RM, particularity this season? Has he not been booed of the pitch on several occasions? Has his car not been attacked a few months back by angry supporters, there is a video of it online? Has he not been slated by footballing media for the past few months? His agent said himself that Bale is tinkled off. Why is it "ludicrous" to assume that, despite of Bale's previous success (last year) and the huge contract he is on, he might not be happy if he is constantly booed and not appreciated and might want to leave? Every top club in Europe would gladly take him on.

No need to lecture me on how and when to use certain words, I'm perfectly capable of doing that myself. I wrote "calm down" because your reply included assumptions and felt a bit aggressive in my opinion. It wasn't meant to offend you as much as it apparently did. Assumptions you made are your own interpretation of my statement "he made his bed" and me caring more about Bale than he does for me.

It's pointless to have a discussion with someone who defines your opinion as ludicrous. I could go on and address all the other points that you've made ( I already did that a bit) but that would be steering away from my original point. Again, all i wanted to say was: he left,i don't feel sorry for him nor do i care what is currently happening to him.

I bet he cannot wait for this season to be over. Maybe he just needs to get this season over and done with and forget about it? The question is, will Real be patient with him and not be tempted to sell him to United or Bayern for example? I reckon United will pull out all the stop to try and sign him, he would make them instant title contenders alongside Chelsea next season. May even have a decent shot at the CL too.

I'm sure he does .. his Madrid future is probably based on what happens with the manager.

The Manure rumours have been there, but really not sure of how much of it I believe since they seem to be in for Bale, Ronaldo, Kane, Lloris and others .. I think people/media are confused or United has suddenly won the lottery ... (I'd be surprised if Manure spend another 200M+ this summer)

Especially since outside of a striker, most of Manure's needs are really defensive in nature.

Completely unlikely, but if I was Levy, I'd be working with the numbers/sponsors, and make an offer, if we were willing to spend the money for Lamela/Soldado/Paulinho to get CL, that same amount of money would likely get Bale back (yes, I know he would have to accept)

Agreed. The new manager may be a massive fan of Bale. Ancellotti seems to like him as he's not dropped him.

Paper talk sometimes is just that, but more often than not, you don't get those stories for months and months without there being something to the stories.

I reckon they may push Rooney up front, solves their issues.

I don't believe he would consider coming back to us anytime in the near future.

I'm super pleased you have come to the conclusion that it is a pointless debate. GHod I love it when the ignorant try to defend themselves!

So to sum up, you don't care about Bale. Even though you chose words that clearly indicate you do, and language is an issue but you're not happy for someone to help in regards to this. As I said, I'm sure he's off on some forum discussing your success in the workplace based on wild media claims, as you said, you care about him as much as he cares about you so that must be correct.

You wrote calm down to antagonize, that's what the phrase is for, there was no indication of aggression towards yourself in my first post, only conclusions drawn from your post ie you knowing fudge all about Bale's situation. If I had realised it would have upset you to have brought your under developed thoughts in to question I wouldn't have made the comment. Your attempts to wriggle out of being wrong with hyperbole is just about as tedious as your original post so congratulations on the consistency, Bale could have done with it this season eh?

No, that's YOUR ASSUMPTION. To sum up, you're a huge pain in the ass, and a pretentious prick. The only reason I mentioned his success is because you made assumptions based on my original post - a post that had nothing to do with Bale's current situation.

Now hop along and take your overdeveloped thoughts with you and spare me your opinions in the future. How's that for English.

not good enough, iz all bout da banta innit

As parklane1 says, Modric started 21 league games in 2009/10 plus came off the bench in a further 4...

So he started just over half the games that season then basically, proves my point does it not? He had a good contribution but not a massive one.

For someone who is indifferent, this is the latest in a particularly barbed set of comments mate. Those touches mean nothing if they're in areas of the pitch where he will be less effective. You do know that in just under two years, he has also won them the Copa Del Rey with an outrageous goal and the CL with a supreme header, as well as delivered some tremendous performances. If people cannot see that he is the focus of a political thing at RM, then I despair...

Sorry, I disagree.
We got into the CL because we were, in the last quarter of the season, able to take advantage of some slip-ups around us (largely because we had less games). I would argue that Modric, Gomes and Bale were the three main reasons we made it. In fact, taking a look at the games he was in for the last third, it's tough to argue that his presence did not have a huge effect on stabilizing the team and giving us (along with Palacios) a balanced midfield which was the platform to nick those big time wins.
