General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

Can't remember the site (could've been THBN), but there was an article comparing Wanyama to Mason and Bentaleb as a means of judging whether or not he is worth the transfer fee. Anyways there was a fourth player used in the comparison, Johannes Geis of Mainz who we are apparently looking at (accoring to the website). I've not seen our interest written about anywhere else, just wondering if anyone else had read/heard about our interest in this lad and whether or not he'd fit in well for us.

Quite a few Fiorentina players he could have been watching too. Or it could just be that he was in Italy for other reasons and went to the game because he had the chance?

Plus a lot of Baldini's power is down to his connections. If you're someone like that you've got to keep up to it, he might just be attending an invite.

One thing he won't be doing is watching anyone. He's not a scout. If he's on business he'll be negotiating a deal on a player that's already been scouted, or negotiating terms on a player to be sold.

most likely this.....anyway i dont think anyone at tottenham will be listening too much to Baldini's verdicts on potential buys:)

Not sure there's much between him and Konoplanka ability wise, and one is free and one would cost nearly £20m

yeah but Konopylanka plays on the left side cutting in and the Yarmelenko plays mostly on the right drifting in............with Poch's preference for inverted wide men they would both fit in

however i think Levy will be wary about spending big bucks on any Russian/Ukrainian......

Directors of Football/technical directors don't watch players? Really?

Surely scouting takes place over a long time, and I don't see why it couldn't involve Baldini watching a player...

If the opinion of a member of our transfer committee is trusted so little that there's not even a point to him watching players he would certainly be sacked, yeah?

Yes he is. His whole reputation is built on uncovering teenagers from South America and lower leagues.

He's now director of the scouting department, but I'm sure he still occasionally gets his sheepskin on.

Remember last summer Yahaya, Azzaoui and Lazar were Baldini 'ones for the future' specialities - showing he still goes on the factory floor

We've got 3 righties (AT, EL, AL) and only 1 leftie (NC), so Kono maybe fits the bill a bit better.

I agree though that we won't be dipping into the former Soviet market. Rodriguez or Ayew are much more likely IMO

it was a half joke, but as has been debated already its possible that Baldini's role and influence has changed and now as NWND says he will be dealing more with the negotiations of players in and out.

anyway, he will continue to go to games, watch many players, and if he wants to pass on opinions about players im sure he will.

Lennon is looking very likely to leave. Pritchard, who to me looks better suited to playing on the left than on the right, is probably coming into the squad. Eriksen also looks fairly comfortable on the left...

Probably depends on who we sell more than anything.

I'd say that 2 of those 3 righties that you listed will be sold as none of them have managed to nail down that position. Pritchard will be cover for Eriksen most likely. I'd agree with you that someone like Rodriguez or Ayew would be ideal.
