Fazio and Stambouli Needed

Gutter Boy

Tim Sherwood
I felt we really missed these two today

Fazio should have started - to deal with United's long balls and to marshal the line. I really rate Dier, but our defence has looked nowhere near as secure since the Fazio-Verts partnership has been broken up. It's right to use Dier against teams that break quickly - Liverpool and Arsenal etc., but Fazio needs to play in all the other big games.

And we needed Stambouli as a 3rd CM when it became clear that Masaleb were struggling. Stambouli is the player to allow us to go 4-3-2-1 like we needed to. Like Fazio, he also seems to possess great organising skills, which we needed to cope with the creative positioning of Fellini and Blind.

Anyone know where these two are then (not on the bench when Chiriches and Paulinho were). Unfit, out of form, or out of favour?

Well they are his two biggest signings to-date, so it's odd (unless there are injury reasons that haven't been declared)

Not particularly. They aren't 'his' signings, he doesn't fancy them. That's the most plausible explanation, save for perhaps injury troubles affecting 'em.

Ardiles (Poch's pal) was going on in the summer about how much Poch had wanted Fazio. Stambouli is also very much a Poch style player (a Schneiderlin clone)

Poch clearly doesnt agree

next

He agreed to sign these guys apparently, in the summer transfer window, did he want these guys? Its a big question for our future. Either he didn't and players were forced on him, as in previous regimes or he rated them and has poor judgement? Especially in his first season, I would have thought he would have said we need x, y & z and said go and get them.

our downturn in form is due to bringing chadli back in the team.. our arsenal line up was perfectly balanced.

There were a range of players Poch apparently wanted in the summer (loads of people claimed he wanted Musacchio, Moreno, etcetera), but we ended up paying the release clause for Fazio (and tinkling off Sevilla by trying to lowball them over even that, apparently) and settling in, with the end result being that he hasn't played much despite being a pleasant surprise ability-wise. I don't know if Poch wanted Fazio as much as Ardiles claimed he did.

And as for Stambouli, come on. Calling him a 'Schneiderlin clone' is like calling Townsend a 'Ronaldo clone' because he too, cuts in from out wide.

We've no goals or strength/height in midfield without Chadli. Kane is completely on his own without him supporting.

Musacchio and Moreno are very different type players to Fazio. They would have been Chiriches' replacement (small/cultured), whereas Fazio was Dawson/Kaboul's (power/height)

I like Schneiderlin, but he's become very overrated by our fans. He's really not that much better than the Mason, Bentaleb, Stambouli trio

We missed Stambouli? How can we miss someone that never plays?

Because we needed to switch from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-2-1, and he's the player we needed to do that.

People have forgotten what a decent job he actually did when Bentaleb was at the ACN.

Poch has rotated players based on form this season. I would expect Dier, Townsend and possibly Mason to make way for our next game.

The problem is we don't have anyone else in the squad that can really do the Mason role, unless he tries Winks.

Bentaleb and Stambouli are too similar IMO (i.e. they like being the deep one of the two, not the one who links to the AMs)

how about they are his signings but they just havent delivered what he wants from them, not yet anyway......many managers buy many players that dont deliver what was originally expected

If they are fit, then that has to be the case. None of the 'not his players' nonsense
