Transfer Rumour Thread

I see de Jongs contract is up in the summer. Hed be a great signing.

Shifted out at City because he was too much of a pure defensive midfielder and not good enough on the ball. Probably a mistake for them never to replace him. But that aside he doesn't strike me as what we need. Our priority in central midfield should be someone that can pass and move with purpose. The step down from Bentaleb and Mason to our next bunch of players in that regard is still just shocking.

Yeah I agree. Good player, but we already had a destroyer in Sandro and Poch was obviously looking for something more than just that by the fact he got rid of him.

more to with him being experienced and a winner in a position we will be light in. He's fine on the ball.

A position we're light in, but a role we're not really currently accommodating.

Would rather give Stambouli time on the pitch and trust Bentaleb.

He's fine on the ball compared to Sandro. He's not fine on the ball compared to Bentaleb and Mason. Imo at least.

If Masons injury is serious.. for the next 7 games our 3 midfield options will be Dembele, Stambouli and Paulinho.

Chelsea and Man Utd's £100m Gareth Bale tale takes ASTONISHING twist

GARETH BALE is set to crush Chelsea and Manchester United's hopes of signing him this summer by penning a new and improved contract with Real Madrid.

Reports in recent days had claimed that the two Premier League giants were plotting £100million bids in order to bring the former Tottenham star back to England.

However, Bale has already claimed that he has no desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu after becoming a key player for Carlo Ancelotti.

And the Welshman is now ready to put an end to the transfer rumours by extending his stay in Spain on a fresh deal.

Bale's contract ends in 2019, but the 25-year-old will now sign on until 2021, with his £15m annual salary also set to increase after helping Los Blancos to the Champions League last season.

And the player we'd want in to cover for Bentaleb and Mason is a player whose biggest weakness is passing and technical ability? Makes no sense to me.

We have depended very heavily on Mason and Bentaleb and we do need competition or cover for them. But that should be someone with similar strengths and abilities imo.

Like who though?

Two obvious candidates with a ton of ability and PL experience would be Schneiderlin and Cabaye. See us being linked with McCarthy at Everton and I think he would be a decent option and another one with PL experience. Probably not possible in January, but Alex Song would be another very good signing.

Not sure on Delph although I've seen him linked and people praising his performances. Another with PL experience and contract issues, but not sure if he's actually good enough.

Looking past players with contract issues and PL experience I'm sure there are decent options around. Always liked the look of Clasie at Feynoord, but another one I haven't watched all that much. People that should know what they're talking about keep massively talking up Tielmans at Anderlecht, but one I haven't seen at all personally. I'm guessing and hoping that if our interest in Rabiot is real he's better on the ball than De Jong.

I could go on, but I don't think it's necessary for my point. Which is that signing a 30 year old likely to be on big wages with what is essentially the opposite skillset of the players we want either backup or competition for makes very little sense to me. I'd rather just trust Stambouli until Bentaleb comes back.

Cabaye or Song are probably the best realistic options for us.

Haven't seen it discussed, but if it's possible for Song to be recalled to complete a permanent transfer elsewhere it would be fantastic business if he could come to us.

Cabaye will probably ask for massive wages as he's probably on a ton and a bit at PSG. Would be another very good signing imo. To some extent I think he would be better for us than Schneiderlin. More of a goal threat, gets forward more. A better fit alongside Bentaleb who currently looks the best of our young central midfielders. Creative enough that even without Bentaleb and Mason we would have real quality in the centre with Cabaye and Stambouli. But... Money...

--------------------------

On a far from related note. Seems to be a lot of PL clubs in the business of buying footballers this January. Pulis and Pardew, not exactly managers that like sitting around on a big pile of unspent cash. Saudi Sportswashing Machine will probably give their new man some money to spend. Redknapp said that QPR were only looking for loan deals, but come on! Everyone from Saudi Sportswashing Machine and down will look down at the line between 17th and 16th with some fear if results don't go their way this January. At the other end a few clubs that might feel that some money invested this January could help them push for Europe like ourselves, West Ham, Southampton. Perhaps even Arsene will dip his toe in the frosty January transfer water.

Our PL proven players could fetch a pretty penny this January. Surely if it's true that January is not a good time to buy players it must be a good time to sell players? Or is that not how it works?

The whole January thing not being time to buy players is bull**** anyway .. if you actually go through the list, there have actually been some good buys in January.

And yes, I'd expect WBA, Palace, Barcodes, Pool, Manure, City, Scum and us will all be looking at possible deals ..

Some truth to it. Some deals will be easier in the summer. A pre-season makes it a little bit easier to settle in for new signings, can help. But certainly possible to make good signings anyway!

Would Harry take a punt on Kaboul and buy him for the 3rd time. He would be an improvement on their current defense possibly. Or not.

Adebayor would be very difficult to shift. The juju stuff has probably scared many off.

Capoue is one that I have no idea about. Would he garner interest?

Naughton to Swansea or anyone in bottom half who needs a right back.

Personally wouldn't want to sell Chiriches or Dier.

Lennon and Townsend are our real pace on the flanks. Would like to see Townsend to stay and see if Poch can make a player out of him. And Lennon if sold needs a replacement.

Paulinho probably needs to stay and play more in our congested fixture period and increase his value or become the player we thought we bought.

Ceballos needs to be sold or loaned.

Only at the bottom

Last January 6 of the top 9 did no business at all and generally January business is petering out.

Kaboul could be offloaded, enough clubs in bottom half that would need a defender (like a couple of others, its more Levy, if he's willing to let go for 5M range, sold, if he wants more 8M, not likely)
Ade is a shift overseas, Turkey?
Capoue, again, decent DM would find a buyer lower in table, as before, our sale price will determine level of interest
Naughton supposedly has 3 clubs already interested in buying (I see that as almost a done deal)
One of Townsend/Lennon should go, neither of them will be PL starters for us, based on that, based on higher likely price, I would sell Townsend
Paulinho could be loaned out
Ceballos **** he has said in the papers likely indicates he's almost gone as well.

We should be able to sell at least 3, loan 1 or 2 out, hopefully sell 5.

Would be good if we bought in a top striker and and a top CM and maybe some competition for Lamela.

That's if we off load 5-6.

If we are only asking for £5 million for Naughton, then for once I think Levy is bang on with his evaluation. Sometimes we do quote silly prices for players, but that amount is about right.
