Re: Sherwood would we be better off if he stayed?

I don't see anything that Sherwood did with Ade that Poch hasn't been doing. In fact remember in the summer Poch said that he saw Ade as very central to his plans" and he seems to have kept to his word. If not for his poor finishing and poor control (it's like he aged 3 years in 6 months!) he wouldn't have been dropped/taken off as he has been recently.

I think he was on one of those purple patches when Sherwood cane in (mainly likely to prove a point to AVB)

As I said before, Sherwood appeared to have a good rapport with Ade. In fact, Siggy was quite vocal last week in defense of Sherwood and how he enjoyed playing under him and he was disappointed to see him sacked. Certainly no mention of "poisonous" behaviour that some on here claim he was spreading.

This isn't a dig at Poch, but as you point out, Ade probably wanted to prove a point to AVB, and also perhaps felt a bit of gratiude towards Sherwood.

One more reason, we got more men in the box under Sherwood than under AVB and Poch, that was noticeable from day one.

Re: Sherwood would we be better off if he stayed?

The reality is he was always a caretaker, you start the second season with him and you are still in flux, the players are all scratching their balls wondering when the real guy is gonna arrive.

Re: Sherwood would we be better off if he stayed?

I think evidence of previous work probably pays a part as well.

AVB had world class players like Falcao at Porto, but he still got huge credit for winning them the treble. Imagine if that was Redknapp, no way he'd get credit for that, they'd say it's down to the players, only a two team league etc.

Re: Sherwood would we be better off if he stayed?

Sherwood polarised fans and players. We got results. Not amazing results. We still got battered by the top teams. And he was horrible in the media. Some players he disliked and made it public and the ones he liked clearly played for him. The football was horrid to watch. I went to a fair few home games and it was disjointed and we were poor defensively. He had a remit to get us 4th place or jog on. He thought he could, then realised he couldn't and then turned in to a bitter cry baby and refused to accept that he had promised something he could not achieve. He left and we hired a promising coach with a good CV. It hasn't clicked yet. It may well do. But by GHod we are better off without Tim.

I agree with this post completely.

Some of our fans had it in for him from day 1 which I found odd and the reasons they had it in for him. But he is a limited manager who would not take us the next level whether poch or anyone can remains to be seen. From sticking up for Sherwood he kept putting his foot in it because he came out with ever more childish comments. Mourniho would have eat him for breakfast if we had ever played them in an important cup match.

Re: Sherwood would we be better off if he stayed?

Didn't porto sign moutinho, hulk and falcao for less than £20m combined? Were they truly world class when they signed for Porto?

Bring Back AVB

Unlike all his recent counterparts - Sherwood (blown every interview by opening his mouth), Redknapp (relegation, botched promotion, imminent relegation and/or sacking), Ramos (sent to the gulags), Jol (sacked by Fulham), Santini (not worked in 8 years) and Hoddle (not worked in 8 years) - one of our recent managers has gone on to prove his fundamental qualities by going from strength-to-strength at his following club.

Zenit are now sitting 7 points clear after 13 games, with a GD of +26. AVB is once again one of the hottest coaching properties in Europe.

Lots of people didn't like his medicine, but perhaps if we brought him back and backed him properly, he is the visionary that would lead us to the promised land?

Re: Bring Back AVB

I love him, we ****ed it up.

Levy should have given him the keys and the chequebook and ****ed off on his yacht for 5 years.

The man is a genius and we are gonna look very very stupid in 20 years time when people look at his trophy collection.

In summary, yes.

Re: Bring Back AVB

The guy who relied more on the individual brilliance of players than HR did and looked utterly clueless when said world class player had an off day?

The guy who had us playing the worst football played by a Spurs side than George Graham?

The guy who had us playing negative football but still managed to lose 3-0 and 5-0 at home?

No thanks.

How did Chelsea get on after they sacked him?

Or was that sarcasm?

Re: Bring Back AVB

Well, it's only fair to start this one, seeing as we have an equivalent asking the same re Sherwood

However, I still have faith in Poch

Re: Bring Back AVB

Our highest points finish of all time, despite losing all 4 of our world-class players in a 12 month period?

Modric? Check.

Kind? Check.

VDV? AVB chose to sell? Check

Who is the 4th? Gareth Bale was still at the club. For someone who claims HR only did well at Spurs because of the players, your views are painfully biased when it comes to AVB in that respect.
