Michael Dawson

Some ITK mentioned that some players wanted the club to pay out the remainder of their contract before they would leave. Don't know if that's the case here, but it's not unlikely that some kind of arrangement has been made with Hull to make this work out for all parties.

I think 3 million seems a little low but ok, especially considering Fazio is probably only going to cost 7 or 8. Either way, I am also going to be sad to see him go, even though he is nowhere near good enough to be a starting CB in a team that is challenging for the Top 6.

He's not the most talented footballer we've ever had, but he always gave everything on the pitch and seemed generally happy and proud to play for our club. He will always be welcome back at the Lane, and I really hope that we can work out a deal that works best for both parties.

He may not be a classic club legend like Ledley, but he's certainly going to be someone I will always cheer for (similar to Huddlestone and Defoe, to me). Think any team who can manage a headed goal against Dawson and Davies is really going to have to earn it. Hope he tears it up there.

Well according to most on here sky sports chat a load of nonsense so not sure why anyone is taking their word for it if that's the case....

He's past his best years imo and we really do need players off the books, Levy normally would stick for more, but we can't afford to so. Besides we still probably are in the black for transfers even after Fazio in and Daws out

=D>great post. Think Hull are getting a bargain and we are getting rid of our best out and out defender. IMO that's not because he is ****e, but because he is not the right fit for the system Poch wants to play. I will say this, I am a big fan of Poch and I know it is early days, but amongst the euphoria of the 4-0 win there were some alarming moments on Saturday when the ball was played easily behind our defence or players such as Caulker had free headers in the box. Luckily it was not QPR' s day against teams like Liverpool we may not get away with this. Our defensive problems will not end with Michael Dawson leaving. Good luck Daws, you will always get a massive cheer from me before and after the games against Hull.

That is partly because the midfield, aside of Capoue, are not adept at pressing collectively, which means the QPR midfield had time to play the ball through, when they had it fortunately they couldn't win it often.
Secondly, Dier lost Caulker from the corners both times, he will have to hold his man to prevent that. Kaboul as our best header should have picked him up, Vertonghen to pick Rio and Dier on Remy, IMO.

Remember they had Richard Dunne too in the first half and Bobby Zamora in the last 15 minutes. Not sure if that's what happened, but not unreasonable if Kaboul as our best header was looking after those players instead of Caulker. I agree though that putting Dawson in for Kaboul wouldn't have sorted that problem at all. Putting him in for Vertonghen might have helped, but that would have caused other problems.

As for the through balls we saw last season that Dawson is at best no better at dealing with those, and like you say it's up to the midfield and striker(s) to put the right kind of pressure on. Was a real warning shot from QPR, an equalizer there could have completely changed the flow of the game and like Rob pointed out Liverpool will probably punish us if we do the same against them. Hopefully Poch will have the players learning from that warning shot.

Hemant makes a good point. It emphasises my point that even without Dawson many defensive problems exist. Tbh Dawson wins many headers in the box especially from corners so IMO we are stronger defensively in that department when he plays. As for through balls I agree he was not good last season. But the fact we are still poor in this area suggests a systemic problem rather than just Dawson so why is this held against him more than our other defenders?

:(:(:(:(:(

I'm gonna have to change my username now :(

Through my entire Spurs supporting life we've had a continuous line of homegrown(ish) English CB leaders who the fans identify with - Mabbutt, Campbell, King and Dawson. I hope Dier can go on to fill that void.

Dierverts? Doesn't have the same ring, does it?
