ITK Thread

Clyne was never ever on our books, don't know where GB got that from...

He was - before he went to Palace. Mentioned in a few places, e.g.:

"After spending time with Tottenham's youth set-up, Stockwell-born Clyne joined Palace and he soon accelerated through to the first team."

"I signed for Spurs on schoolboy forms when I was 11 but I was from south London (Stockwell) and Tottenham's training ground was in north London (Chigwell),"

I stand corrected; fair play. But it was more than "a few years ago". But well done, non the less.

Who: Ryantegan
Where: SC
When: 4th June

Been told that we need to make up our mind regarding Steven Caulker. We can get him back for a decent fee (I think around £6m) but we are also looking at other targets.

Swansea have made a bid and want to speak to him too.

For that sort of fee we would be mad not to. I think he would make the right sort of partner for Vertonghen and he has the added benefits of being young, homegrown and also already knowing what the club is all about. He is also a huge threat at set pieces. I would happily swap Kaboul's place in the team/squad for Caulker.

If £6 mill is correct, I tend to agree. BUT, I've watched Cardiff 5-6 times this season, and Caulker is still very slow in his turning (as Daws), and has been catched ball watching very often. Looks to me that his football IQ isnt at a required level. Do agree with you about the threat at set pieces though. He wont be an upgrade to our CBs IMO, but could be needed if our injury record is anything to go by the coming seasons.

Wouldnt want us to re-sign him as it would still mean that we need to sign another CB this summer. Sign a top class CB to partner Verts and then keep two of Daws, Chiriches and Kaboul as back-up

Caulker left because he was frustrated at being 4th choice. He's still only good enough to be our 4th choice, so it makes no sense at all for him to come back. Plus there was his rumoured off-pitch issues.

At the moment, he'd start alongside Vertonghen in our best defence. I'd like us to sign one more CB though (Lovren maybe?), so he'd have to make do with being 3rd choice. Regardless, we'll have a lot of games to play next season and I'm sure he'd rather be 3rd choice with us, the club who made him, than staying at Cardiff.

Off the pitch issues? You mean like Rio Ferdinand when he got convicted of drink driving and got kicked out of the England squad? When Ledley King repeatedly got caught falling out of nightclubs drunk off his face? When Jonathan Woodgate beat up that student? Tony Adams in general? Newsflash - young footballers do dumb **** sometimes. Doesn't mean they can't mature and become world class players. Caulker is still only 22, we have a new manager, he's been away for a year, let bygones be bygones.

Sadly, I don't think his off-the-field issues were as simple as those above, Apparently it was to do with how he behaved towards Joe Lewis the owner and the decision to sell him came from that high up in our hieracrchy.

Therefore it would be VERY surprising if he is brought back (considering he's not at the level to warrant a regular first team place for a side that has our aspirations)

I dont think Mr Lewis would like him back after what he alledgedly said/did to Lewis's daughter in the Bahamas

Here's the ITK on Caulker from last summer:

Mystery on SC:

G'd evening...

Not been around for a while, rather busy but got some information today directly from a member of staff within the club.

Caulker - Was not happy at the club, was told he would not be in the starting 11, and he felt at this point in his career he needs regular game time. Also it turns out AVB didn't really rate him.

Rebrab on SC:

Caulker: 20-odd percent sell on (not profit) fee and first refusal. This means no buyback clause, but if in 2 years time they accepted a bid we could get him for 20-something% less than any other teams.

Breezer on SC:

I know it might be silly talking about Caulker as he's been sold. But I've been told the real reason why he was released! Let just say you should be careful who you're calling a brass!

Who'd he call a *****? Cullen?

Joe Lewis's daughter without realising who she was.

That sounds like that "Zaha is shagging David Moyes daughter" rumour that came when he wasn't getting picked, until it came out that he'd never even met her.

I think it's highly unlikely to be true. And even if it was, Joe Lewis is a businessman first and foremost. I can't imagine he'd refuse to allow someone to work for one of his companies just because of a drunken argument that happened when he was 21 years old, especially if his staff want him.

You'd have a point if Caulker was on the level of a young Rio Ferdinand or had similar potential.
As it is many think he might struggle to even maintain Dawson's average career level. So all the more likely Joe Lewis can stick to his guns

Lewis' daughter is in her 50s or 60s - not a young girl.

She's supposed to be his business heir apparent though (more than his son who is apparently more of a playboy waster)

Good to see GG's fascination with Spurs players no longer in team continues

Caulker, Livermore, Hudd, Gomes, all no where near good enough for first team, absolutely no point in going back there
