General Transfer Discussion Thread

Re: Transfer Rumours

Two points:

1. I don't think we would have a chance signing him.
2. He would be another player new to the league having to adjust.

Carrick would be someone that knows the league, and our club, someone that can slot right in and get a running start. Someone I think could actually help our new boys from last summer, along with whoever we sign from abroad this summer, settle.

Also Carrick is a couple years younger than Pirlo.

1.we wouldnt have a chance of signing him?? with Baldini and his convincing skills i think we would have every chance. On a free, wages will be an issue but Levy is smart at structuring deals..............2. being another new player to the league is an issue, but this man is so talented and experienced i think and hope he would be fine. I take your points about Carrick and they make sense, but i would still prefer Pirlo over Carrick for any deep lying midfield role. Its just a personal preference. Pirlo has more in an attacking sense, Carrick is better defensively

Re: Transfer Rumours

Could you be any more bitter?

no its not just that, for example i wanted us to re-sign Berba once he left Utd for Fulham. If Modric leaves Real id love us to be in for him. Im just not that big a fan of Carrick thats all.

Has Pirlo even said he's leaving? Or is his contract just running out and they will enter negotiations? Why would he leave comfortable Juventus, best team in the league he's always been in for us? And if he does why wouldn't bigger teams be in for him?

his current contract ends this summer and until now he hasnt signed a new one despite saying he would. We were linked with him last summer iirc. Of course bigger teams will be interested, just like they will be interested in Carrick if he decides to leave Utd. all we can do is try...........

Of course there will be other interest, but relatively speaking there will be a lot more interest in Pirlo than in Carrick if both are available. I could easily see clubs like Monaco, PSG or perhaps Emirates Marketing Project make a move for Pirlo if he's available. I can't really see that for Carrick, at least not as easily.

Carrick just seems a lot more gettable. And, for me at least, if he's gettable we should be getting as far forward in the line as we possibly can.

Re: Transfer Rumours

I've heard that he was quite happy to stay with us and sign a contract extension but Levy kept dragging his feet on a new deal. When United came in Carrick though "**** this, if I'm not valued at Spurs..."

Where did you hear this?.... as you couldn't be more wrong.

Re: Transfer Rumours

Amazing how fans are, every interview before every Spurs game, Carrick has had nothing but **** to say about us, now when he is completely on the downside of his career, we would welcome him back?

Not worth it, not worth the salary, and as another poster pointed out, when United as team has done well, Carrick has looked good, when they have done poorly, he has done poorly, he doesn't seem to influence their form that much.

My choice would be someone younger, or someone who has at least a touch of respect for the club that took him out of the championship and gave the opportunity to be the center of the team.

Another way to look at that is to say that when Carrick has been good they have been good, when he has been poor they have been poor. When they got the best out of Carrick they got the best out of the team.

Doesn't even matter though. Since when was the bar for our signings "has to be good enough and influential enough to be the driving force behind a team like United"?

I would rather have success than nice words. I would rather have pretty passes from a current player than pretty quotes from a former player. Some fan I am huh...

My point was more towards the people who didn't want Keane/Berbs/etc. back but suddenly would be happy for Carrick (the others were at least respectful post leaving)

If Carrick still has the legs, Sandro - Carrick deep and Eriksen in front of them would be interesting.

Re: Transfer Rumours

Why would you want Nani? what would he bring to us that we do not have currently.

I think Nani is done at the highest level. Every time you see a story about some big club being interested it's most likely his agent looking to get some attention. Still hoping for that last payday.

Re: Transfer Rumours

A friend with quite good contacts and who is normally reliable. What have you heard?

I read your initial post and I have to say that as far as I am aware, it didn't happen like that either. There was no fallout or anything like that. It was simply a case of Man Utd showed interest, Carrick was happy at Spurs but once aware of their interest, was quite interested not just in terms of the team but in terms of moving back towards the North which favoured his partner as well as himself.

He never dug heels in or kicked off but just made it clear he would like to play for them if a deal could be reached. From how I understand it, Carrick would have happily stayed at Spurs if a deal couldn't have been agreed but made it clear he wanted a deal to happen if at all possible.

My source on that information was personal friends who were/are very close to Chris Hughton and used to get elements of information from him as a situation was developing.

Yeah, and Keane was super respectful when he came. Boyhood club and all that.

Loads of good it does us when the bids come in, or loads of good it does us that they're nice after leaving. Not to say it's not preferable, but in the end it doesn't really matter much either way. What players do on the pitch matters a lot though.

Interesting, cheers. I stand corrected :)

Re: Transfer Rumours

I seem to have missed all the **** Carrick has been saying about us all these years

Re: Transfer Rumours

He wasn't gracious to us in his post move interviews, then he would "conveniently" have interviews just before games against us and would talk smack about us, how we have a loser mentality at the club, etc. etc.

Just unnecessary and classless ****, to me I have an issue with the guy because Keane/Berbs/Modric would have all made their careers with/without Spurs. Carrick required Spurs to take a chance on him (he could have faded in the championship), build a team around him, give him a run over a player with CL experience.

If he had an ounce of ****ing class, he could have just said "thanks to Spurs for giving me the chance, it's given me the opportunity to prove myself at the highest level" nothing else, don't need undying love, don't need to be his boyhood club, just don't **** on the side that took you out of the ****ing championship and made you attractive enough for United to buy you.
