General Transfer Discussion Thread

Re: Transfer Rumours

Then let's say it how it is - we will always be a selling club under Levy and Enic. Time for another billionaire to come along and make us like they have Chelsea and City!

Bet you're going to respond with something along the lines of "we don't want to lose our identity etc." blah blah blah!

Selling your best players doesn't work - evidence? Tottenham Hotspur Football Club!

Never said it works .. just in the real world, every club except Madrid/Barca and maybe City/PSG sells players they don't want to

And yes, we are a selling club, the answer is not to pretend otherwise, it's to figure a model that works with that ..

At risk of 1000 repeats -> see United with Ronaldo

You're still distorting the situation. It's not just Levy and Enic, it's where we are as a football club. Like 95%+ of clubs we're not at the very top of the ladder.

The only thing that will change that (quickly) is a billionaire that wants to make us his plaything, you're right about that. But that doesn't mean everyone has to want that! And I think the majority of people wouldn't want that...

It's possible to accept.

Re: Transfer Rumours

I accept where we are and I don't want us to be bought by a Billionaire. I'm comfortable and greatful for Levy turning us into the maximum we can be. We are a sizeable club (not a giant) in European football. We buy the best of the smaller fish's players that we can, develop them add some gems from our academy and sell them on to the European giants for a massive profit, that then gets reinvested in the club and new batch of young talent.

Dortmund, Porto, Ajax, some of Europe's most successful clubs have followed this model and its the model Levy decided on post-Hoddle. He travelled all over Europe speaking to various clubs about how they operate.

Our new stadium will increase budgets and spending power, but as you can see from Arsenal, we will remain a selling club. There's no shame in that. It's just the way the cookie crumbles.

I'm not pretending otherwise I'm denouncing it and won't just accept it like you! For me supporting tottenham is not a business - I put a lot in a lot and expect something out, this season has not been value for the money and time I have spent watching them tbh. As a paying customer I am entitled to expect a return (no not trophies just some much needed direction would be good). For me part of the problem is letting our best players leave for big money that has not been invested wisely. What part of that do you find difficult to comprehend?

The model you talk about requires a very good manager. Can we chalk that one off too because we're no longer up there with the big boys?

Its fair enough to constantly throw Utd--> Ronaldo in there but United sold one player for a hell of a lot of money then came knocking our door several times to get our best players. Real have done the same and we have given them what they wanted every time.

:-k A lot of business sounding speak for something that's not a business...

What does it change that you "won't accept it"?

Re: Transfer Rumours

I always ask this question, which clubs other than real, Bayern, possibly man its and Barcelona (barring one or two big exceptions) have not had to sell a player they didn't want to in the past 10-20 years?

And foster to replace lloris? Really?

Foster is pretty good tbh but the clear choice is obviously Begovic.

Re: Transfer Rumours

4-5 years ago I rated Foster, but the guy has made quite a few **** ups over the years owing to lapses in concentration. He's a steady keeper, but I do think there are better options out there

Yeah and we already have two of them.

We've made more income on transfers than any other club in Europe in the last six years

Thanks for the advice. Please PM one of the admins, rather than post it in thread, if you have any more in the future.

Actually that did sound a bit business like didn't it! :)

My point is that as a fan I want to see Tottenham compete, attack and accept that we will not always win - that's the buzz of being a Spurs fan! I'm not interested in where our rightful place is because of the financial structure/ size of stadium/ not being able to keep our best players. These are things you mention quite a lot.

Hasn't been there this year has it? Looking back over the last three seasons I see no reason why we could not have at least qualified for the CLthree times in a row. It is this turn of events that can change a club's fortunes, however Levy backed the wrong horse!

Listening to Martinez today at the Hillsborough memorial I couldn't help but think what could have been had Levy taken a gamble on him. The man has some serious class!

Backing the right horse after they cross the line is easy

Re: Transfer Rumours

True - but Liverpool targeted both him and Rodgers; we continue to pick one loser coach after another...

Liverpool have the advantage of a significantly higher wage bill than us and no European football. It will be interesting to see how they develop over the next few seasons.

Re: Transfer Rumours

Herrera or Munian I've read and if I'm 100% honest I'd prefer it to be Munian. I think that Herrera is still high up on the list for Man UTD and given the amounts that were spoken about last Summer I don't imagine us going in for him, not to mention the fact that we have so many players in the centre of the park. Munian however could easily make that LWF position his own, unless of course we are thinking of settling in a youngster in that position.

Bilbao press now say it was Laporte and Muniain we were watching but so were Zenit.

Re: Transfer Rumours

Juan Guillermo Cuadrado
------------------------
Apparently we are looking at buying this guy, but then so are Arsenal and Liverpool according to the link here.
http://soccersweep.com/tottenham-to...r-one-of-italian-leagues-most-lethal-players/

I can't claim to know anything about him but on looking at his youtube highlights, he looks like a decent right winger who can beat his man, put in a delivery and score goals. The question is whether or not we need to be purchasing a player for this position?
