Vlad Chiriches

Re: Official - Chiriches

Probably did not help that he was having his shirt pulled on the third goal. A forward in that position would have gone down, but defenders cannot afford to do so.

Re: Official - Chiriches

No doubt Vlad will probably be dropped for the next game, though TS is running out of defenders to fulfil the role of Official spacegoats for TS' inability to organise a defence (or get the team to play an organised game for ninety minutes)

Interesting that we have another defender with really bad body language.

I think these guys know the system is providing them the right cover/protection and aren't happy about it.

Re: Official - Chiriches

we need a lower defensive line and more players helping out. surely tim is capable of figuring that out.

Re: Official - Chiriches

In the autumn, Vlad was outstanding; solid, marvellous timely and last ditch interceptions, coming out with the ball from the back... yet since returning from injury he has been abysmal! Was it a false dawn? Is he still unfit following that back injury? Or is the system that Tim is using (or maybe even the non-system) to blame? How does a team that went to West Brom with the third best away defensive record (mainly from AVB's games) suddenly start defending worse that a pub team?

Re: Official - Chiriches

For the people who think this guy has some pace, what did you make of Sessegnon p1ssing past him for WBA's 3rd goal?

Not quick, not strong, rubbish in the air -- this guy will never make a good centre half in the Premier League, it is impossible. He doesn't have any of the tools.

As Ince highlighted on MotD, Sessegnon's shirt pull allowed him to just edge in front of Vlad and so prevent him overtaking without fouling.
Listening to the babbling, blustering Robbie Fowler whining about how the defender was at fault should convince any rational human that, for this particular discussion, the Spurs man was in the right.

Re: Official - Chiriches

Chiriches has made lots of mistakes this season. His main Achilles heel from what I've seen is his tendency to ball watch, go tight to men playing off the front which allows balls slipped in between him and the full back. Nothing that good coaching couldn't put right.
Other than that I think he has all the tools for the job. Reasonably fast, good interception rate and superb at bringing the ball out from the back. Heading is a weakness but if he sweeps behind the dominant CH - Kaboul/Daws he should be fine. Needs to work on his concentration.

Re: Official - Chiriches

He did well earlier this season but the whole defence is a shambles now really, hard to single him out. Plus I doubt he's fully fit.

A) He is quick
B) Sessegnon is also very quick
C) Sessegnon pulled him back

He was also practically speared on the first goal.

Yeah, I don't really get how not catching Sessegnon in a footrace means a defenders doesn't have "some pace".

How many PL centre backs would we expect to catch Sessegnon there?

Ledley is his prime is what I would call quick. He'd have recovered that situation. I think Kaboul at his best was also quick and would recover that.

Chiriches not being as slow as Dawson doesn't make him quick. I really have no idea what people see in this player to think he'll make a good Premier Leaguew centre-half.

Agreed. Sessegnon tugged his shirt and sprinted past Vlad but they were level by the time they got to the area and Chiriches was probably just a stride away from another great slide tackle, like this one on Mirallas last autumn

And that flying shoulder barge on Vlad in the lead up to the first goal, by Sessegnon again, was the sort of WWE bull**** you expect when facing an Allardyce or Pullis team [-X

The difference between the Mirallas tackle and yesterday is the angle of attack he was almost level with Sessegnon whereas he could come in at 45degs to Mirallas so had a much better angle to tackle from. Also hd he mistimed the tackle yesterday he would've been off as he was the last defender.

True, guess Vlad would've just done a standing tackle if Sessegnon had taken another touch.

Not the the Sessgnon goal, WBA bypassed the midfield completely on it and Kaboul misheaded the ball straight to him.

Reminiscent of Rose' assist for Shane Long' goal! What is it with our defenders providing inadvertent assists this season, that's a league leading 19 so far this campaign #-o

Ledley was seriously quick, that tackle on Robben is my favourite one of all time. Makes up almost 10yards on him.

shame they scored from the corner after mind.

Re: Official - Chiriches

Judge Chiriches, and probably all our defenders, when they have a coach that knows how to coach the team and prepare a plan A and B for even the start of games

Wasn't Ledley in his prime described as the quickest player in our squad by Robbie Keane or Lennon or someone? Some standard for calling a central defender quick.

The words you used were "has some pace", agree or disagree about "quick" and it will be a question of definition. But are you really saying he doesn't "have some pace"?
