Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

definitive interview with quotes; i really don't get the man the more reveals himself to me.

Players know the script - Sherwood

06 April 2014
[h=2]Tim Sherwood will return to the Tottenham dugout when Sunderland visit on Monday - a decision the head coach insists is nothing to do with the fans' irritation at him watching recent matches from the stands.[/h]

"I'll be on the touchline on Monday - I'll be knocking out as many people as I can," Sherwood said with a smile.

"I've had a lot of time to prepare this week. If they don't know what it's all about this week, then they ain't going to know.

"When you're playing against Liverpool and teams like that, I feel there was a technical mismatch between the two teams.

"We have to try to worry about them and they might need some adjusting during the game - they certainly did after 20 minutes. "There was nothing we could do to turn it around, unfortunately.

"I can learn more about my players sitting up top for the future than going down there to the touchline.

"I would've had to have no effect on that game. Against teams we've got left to play, the players know the script now.

"We will play the same way between now and the end of the season and it's up to them to try to entertain.

"I'll be there at the forefront with them and hopefully we can get a positive result together."

"We've got to play with the shackles off. We are not coming up against a technical mismatch now, against teams in the top four.

wow, just wow

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

He's definitely not doing himself any favours saying stuff like that. We were "technically mismatched" against Liverpool, so we might as well have not showed up? What the hell?

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

This. On one hand he's telling the players they need more guts and on the other hand he's basically saying that he threw in the towel before the game even started.

He contradicts himself more than Redknapp ever did.

I think contradicting oneself requires knowing and comprehending what one has just said.

I think Timmeh just lets words fall out of his mouth - in order for him to be contradicting himself, he'd need to be intentionally trying to say what he's saying. I think that's attributing far too much mental acuity and forethought to him.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

When TS was first appointed, there were those who wanted him gone from day one, and those who wanted to give him time, or until the end of the season.
Is there anyone that wants him here next season, or is undecided until all the games have been played?

I've seen enough to pull the trigger and put him out of his misery.

I was one of those ready to give him a chance wishing him well and thinking Gutter Boy had got it wrong again. I was so wrong, I now want him out for so many reasons. But picking Bentelab and Siggy in central midfield ahead of Sandro WTF?

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I think Sherwood's a trier but he's so obviously out of his depth, it's almost pitiful. If he did put himself forward for the job, and wasn't just asked to step up to the plate by Levy in the absence of workable alternatives, then he surely underestimated the size of the role and his own ability to perform in it. A classic case of biting off a lot more than you can chew.

He appears to have thought he would get by on a combination of what had worked with the juniors and of telling Levy what he wanted to hear about the quality and balance of the senior squad and the sufficiency of the summer spree. A few months on, and here he is, still rattling around inside that washing machine with someone else's toolbag, despite the fact he was invited to go to Spanners-R-Us in January and declined, saying it wasn't necessary. What is Levy to think, when he hears that now, all of a sudden, we've a technical mismatch with Liverpool?

I believe Sherwood knows he's blown what chance he ever had of retaining the job, and that all that's left to him with the remaining games is the opportunity to save a little bit of face for himself. I don't need any convincing he'll be gone at the end of the season, barring the further humiliation of every other option falling through; it only remains to be seen whether he'll have the humility to admit his complete underestimation of such a high-profile appointment and be prepared to work his way up, if he does decide he ever wants a head coaching role again.

I agree. It will be interesting to see whether he backtracks on not being prepared to go back to his development role.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

He talks of a technical mismatch as if it's entirely down to the players.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I think he has lost the choice/chance of stepping down a level again at Spurs. He has to go out the door now as, to me, he has stirred the pot too much and created residual bad feeling. Any new manager will want him gone I reckon.

There is no way he can be allowed to stay at the club if Levy brings in a new manager. Levy has to say thanks for the help but its time for you to look elsewhere for a job. Ferdinand too.

exactly

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Maybe Levy knew he had LVG all sorted and pre-signed for the summer and is working with him behind the scenes in preparation and obviously had to look for someone to step in until the end of the season.
He knew he couldn't bring in a experienced manager or someone like Hoddle in case they did too well, especially if he is working in preparation for LVG.
Does anyone know if he gets on well with Sherwood or not? Cos I have that nagging feeling it's like the annoying know-it-all at work that everyone wishes would leave but they never do, so the only solution is to change there role and either move them into a role they will hate so they decide to leave or offer them a postion where they will be out of their depth and you can ending up using it as a reason to get trid of them lol
Levy offered him the 18months to make him accept, and to prevent the constant gossiping and speculation that would have come from the press etc. if it had only been 6months, possibly to put an end to the behinds the scenes issues of Sherwood should be our future manager this and Sherwood disagrees with AVB on that etc.

*Ok so I have written all that down and yep I'm convinced it's all ******** now but too late haha*

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

So playing one of the top 4 teams is "a technical mismatch"? This clown has no place at this club

maybe TS used the term "technical mismatch" in his pre match teamtalk at Anfield and thats why the players came out of the dressing room looking all deflated like they were beaten before they even started the match....

Hopefully these are just the final flailings of a man who will soon just be another footnote in club history. The only good thing about his stint as manager will be if it spells his total removal from the club.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Wait, so there wasn't a technical mismatch against Liverpool?

That is a relief to hear, because before now I had this notion that they were technically excellent and we were technically atrocious. Glad to hear I've been mistaken on that.

It's quite similar to how Pleat's position became untenable after 2003/4. There was no way he could move back to his old role after that caretaker stint.

Timmeh and Les were the only two of Redknapp's staff, other than Parks, not to be fired. Blimey even Clive Allen, Ian Broomfield and Paul Senior went in that clear out. It must have been a conscious decision by Levy, for some reason, to retain them.

At xmas I would have gone for Hoddle under a very similar remit to Benitez had at Chelsea last season. They'd learnt their lesson re Di Matteo, though unfortunately we didn't.

I've said before but I don't think Timmeh got an 18 month contract - there was 18 months left on his existing one, so I expect he has just been 'working up' on that.

The one thing Levy has absolutely nailed is lowering our expectations. In summer 2012 Benitez, Martinez or Moyes would probably have been unacceptable appointments. Now were at a stage of anyone but…
