****OMT***** Tottenham Hotspur vs. West Bromwich Albion - 26/12/13: 3pm

We are not a cohesive team. When a team is settled, they don't have to think. There are too many of those moments when Spurs players have to stop and think. If they were a strong unit, they'd know where the runners are, and could move the ball around with more ease. We're still a collection of skillful players that are not quite linking up to their potential.

West Brom made it hard, but we lacked cohesion to keep the ball moving in the final third to fashion clear chances.

First and foremost, Sherwood needs to get a first 11 settled, used to playing with each other, and confident. Same issues that AVB didn't sort. Question is, can Sherwood?

Siggy needs to hit the gym. For such a big man he ends up on his ass way to much. In the Southampton match I counted that he fell over changing direction 3-4 times with no one near him, and that's not counting the numerous times he gets barged off the ball.

There was a bit of it in this match too, though not quite as much.

At least we were pushing for the winner. But we can't pass and move with enough success (team shape, passing, movement and familiarity are lacking too much of the time). And the defense is not a strong enough unit. If Sherewood can build a team - greater than a sum of our parts then he'll deserve the job. He's got desire, if not much experience.

Last week I counted many players in various matches stacking it. Either the modern day footballer is wearing the wrong footwear or the footwear they are choosing is rubbish

The Baggies set-out in a 5-3-2 system and their packed defensive ranks proved tough to penetrate.
“West Brom came here to do a job and they did it well,” added Tim.
“We didn’t carve them open enough and didn’t show enough quality in the final third, that was disappointing.
It’s important we believe and risk a little more, playing one-touch in around the final third might open things up for us."

On the upside, we also drew 1-1 with WBA at The Lane last season on our way to that record breaking points tally plus, of our rivals for the Top 4, only Liverpool have done better at home to WBA this season...

Well said Steff. BoL is becoming somewhat maniacal about the sacking of AVB and seems to have lost all perspective.

Sheer wood may or may not be the answer, but surely he needs some time and a fit squad before any pertinent judgements can be made.

Actually debate what I have said rather than painting me as something I'm not. I even said in the post you're referring to that of course Sherwood needs time and I'm confident it will get better under him for goodness sake!

So how much time do you think Sherwood should get? Oh and where do you think Sherwood should finish with this team in the table?

I know it wasn't aimed at me, but I think a manager should get given time commensurate with experience and trophies won.

Unless something untoward happens, he should be given to at least the end of this season IMO. No other viable options are likely to be available until after the World Cup in any event. He should only be judged when the squad is fully available to him and he has a significant run of games so we can judge if his style is likely to bring success.

We have debated AVB ad naseam. You really need to take a deep breath and not rush to judgement based on pre conceived ideas. You said earlier you were going to do this. Hiw long dud it last - until your dismissive halftime comments!

So the time given to AVB was just about right then.

Given time for what though? to win a trophy? to gel a team? to finish top four (although for that to happen you need nine months)?

People who were big AVB fans either refused to set targets for the team and when asked how much time he should be given responded with vague answers like "as long as it takes" but Sherwood has to come in straight away and carry on the fantastic work AVB was doing and finish 4th or he's a crap manager. Think that's the jist of it.

I maintained all along that top 4 would be a struggle so I'm not changing that way of thinking. Top 6 should be the minimum target though.

Top 6 will NOT happen with Sherwood in charge until the end of the season. If we lose our FA Cup game against Arsenal in the New Year our season will be over imo
