None of Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, Ancelotti or Mancini (i.e all the EPL winners) had EPL achievements prior to being appointed, but had pedigree from other leagues.

point taken and well made....

we lets see what happens....still agree with rossi though.....we have had lots of foreign talented managers that didnt work......

what are his achievements in the prem????? oh thats right simililar to tim eff all....

Look I know Van Gaal has pedigree but is he really less of a gamble than sherwood????

You can't be serious.
Van Gaal has been in 3 champion's league final and 2 semi finals with 3 different clubs?

I just have no faith in any outside manager coming in and doing well. Santini was highly rated, he sucked, Ramos was highly rated, he sucked, AVB was highly rated, he sucked. I think managing for Spurs is a difficult job, primarily because Daniel Levy is a difficult person to work for. Tim knows Daniel Levy, Tim knows the club, Tim knows the players, I think those are pretty important variables, he's already shown in one game that he's got balls and is willing to trust youth players. I feel that football managers are generally overrated by fans, they don't know a whole lot more than you or I, it's the coaches behind the scenes who do the important work. Pick the right team, make the right subs, it's not quantum physics like AVB would have us believe.

You are resigning yourself to Levy managing the team through his puppet. Like Grant at Chelsea. It's very defeatest.

van Gaal would eat Levy for breakfast - much more like Mourinho in his first spell at Chelsea.

And van Gaal took the AZ job because he was bored and wanted a challenge, so took over a mid-table team who never won anything.

He'd turn us into title challengers, no mistake

you cant say that with certainty.....could be inspired or another Ramos.

Re: Capello at the game tonight

would prefer Hiddink.... not saying Gaal isnt all that

I'd prefer Hiddink too, mainly because I think he's one of the best managers of all time up their with Ferguson. Van gaal is younger though and looks more likely to be the new manager. I'm sure Hiddink has mentioned in the past that he doesn't really want to manage another club anymore.

I am serious mr macenroe:p

I know his achievments and his pedigree.......but my point is valid......he may not be suited to managing in the prem....ergo I would prefer Hiddink.

Are you comparing Van Gaal and Santini?

Do you know how many titles Santini has in his career? Only one...

Apart from getting sacked after a few games at the head of the french team, he hasnt done much..

I have no idea why Levy picked this loser...

Van Gaal has better track record than Hiddink as a club manager. Most of Hiddink's achievements have been in the Dutch league. One FA Cup with Chelsea and one Intercontinental cup with Real Madrid.

Stolen from SC.

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has responded to speculation that he could be the next Tottenham manager.
Reports in England and Netherlands had suggested that Louis van Gaal was now Tottenham’s number one choice to replace the sacked Andre Villas-Boas.

Dutch reporters NOS are reporting that Louis van Gaal even watched today’s Tottenham win over Southampton with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy in his house in Noordwijk.

When asked about this by NOS, Van Gaal denied the meeting, and would not confirm the interest from Tottenham saying, “I never give comment on offers I get.”

He added on his chances of becoming the next Spurs boss, “I said i wanted to work in the Premier League, so there is a chance.”

Tottenham are believed to want Van Gaal to take charge now, and share his duties with the Netherlands national team until he leaves the job in the summer.

However this is not an option for Van Gaal, ”Anyone who knows me knows i would not do that. That is certainly not the case.”

Reading into the Dutchman’s comments it appears he would welcome the opportunity to manage Tottenham, but it would have to wait until he leaves his position with the Netherlands after the World Cup.

To read the original NOS article and see the full quotes (In Dutch) http://nos.nl/artikel/589857-van-gaal-en-spurs-kans-is-groot.html

Van Gaal is one of the best coaches in Europe, he has won 7 league titles with four different clubs in three different countries winning 12 major trophies in total.

His mangerial record reads

P779 W479 D151 L149 F1,723 A787 GD936+ Win% 61.49

Even if it meant him coming in the summer that would be quite a coup IMHO.

This is Spurs, it never works out how it's supposed to. For us we'll probably keep Tim for the rest of the season, he gets us into the top 4 playing exciting football and then we replace him with Van Gaal on a fat contract and he completely Santinis it and we have to pay him off a few months down the line. That would be so Spurs.

Defeat as the agent of change. To stop Levy stitching us up in such an appalling way.

surely if someone else takes up the reins how does us not having three extra points help us????

I dont get your strong views........surely your issue is with Levy not Sherwood.

We've never gone this 'big league' before.

If you shop at M&S you've got a better chance of cooking a nice dinner than if you get your ingredients from Heroin Foods (although Levy is definitely known for overcooking everything).

It's more about next season now. Although saying that, LVG could probably win the league still if he was in place for WBA!

And I've had issues with Sherwood for about 15 years now. The sight of him turns my stomach.

Re: Capello at the game tonight

Van Gaal would be great. Attacking football with an emphasis on the players being top fit.

Hiddink doesn't want to manage a club any more as he's getting on a bit. He'll the Dutch NT coach anyway after the world cup. Also worried about Hiddink being slightly past it. He had an open chequebook at Anzhi, yet never qualified for the CL and failed with Turkey.
