*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Tues 24th Sept***

Re: *** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Tues 24th Sep

The scheduling of this match is making it hard for any teams to field any sort reasonably strong line ups. Crazy.

We should field nobody that expects to play against Chelsea. There must be a few kids that can be brought into the match day squad for this.

It's a decent competition and if we'd've drawn a League 1 team, no one would have noticed the scheduling issue. We've got to give it a proper go really.

I was thinking it would have been better on Wednesday, but remembering that Chelsea is early Saturday, I suppose this at least gives us more rest for that.

I'd rather risk losing than risk an injury to any of the players from yesterday (as per AVB's 48 hour comment). I suspect that might even include Lamela - 20 minutes might be much the same as 90 wrt recovery at this elite level.

That is one perspective but I am of the opposite opinion. I really don't think we have to give it a proper go actually. I see it as a competitive fixture that serves us for fitness and youth/new player run-outs. This is arguably the least important fixture we will have this season in the least important competition of the bunch. Yes I would like to win it, but to lose an important player to injury would be a bitter pill to swallow.

Maybe, he's still young though. I'd be more concerned for the players not in their early twenties.

Andre Villas-Boas believes his Tottenham side face an impossible task against Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup, and that they have not been given a fair crack at the competition due to fixture congestion.

Spurs travel to Villa Park on Tuesday for the third-round clash, barely 48 hours after their 1-0 Premier League win at Cardiff.

The game will take place on Tuesday due to Birmingham and West Brom being at home to Swansea and Arsenal respectively on Wednesday, and concerns over the potential impact on crowd safety due to policing demands.

Villas-Boas understands the reasoning, but it has done little to improve his mood.

"This is an impossible game for us to play, but hopefully our team spirit and motivation can get us through," he said.

"It (the Capital One Cup) is not our absolute number one priority but I don't think we have been given a fair chance to play in this competition this year.

"It could be possible for the players who played against Cardiff to play this game, but I am not sure I want to risk the players who played getting a hamstring injury which could take them six weeks to recover from when the Premier League is more important.

"This team has not experienced having to play again after just two days and we have not been given the same chance as the other teams. So we will have to rotate our squad as the players who played in Cardiff will not be involved.

"We are struggling a little bit with injuries but we have great strength in depth, although it is not going to be easy."

The Portuguese feels the extra 24 hours Villa have had to recover and prepare could prove decisive.

"It is difficult, the ideal situation for us would have been to play Wednesday," he said. "I understand the situation for the police with a number of matches being played in Birmingham, but we do not have the same chance as other teams.

"Villa will not have to do the same (in terms of squad rotation) as they played on Saturday, so they have had an extra day of recovery."

One man who will definitely not play a part is defender Danny Rose, while striker Jermain Defoe is a doubt with a groin problem.

But Villas-Boas is confident he will have full-back Rose available for the weekend meeting with Chelsea.

"Danny's injury is not on his ankle, it is on his big toe," he said.

"We have good news in that there is no fracture but there is another extension of the toe which has left him with some pain.

"We will reassess him and if he is okay and there is definitely no fracture he will probably be back for Chelsea."

Thats still the basis of a pretty decent team. Just need to find a RB and another forward type.....all the decent youths are out on loan though!!

Gomes as the no 9. Time to show his skills.

Re: *** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Tues 24th Sep

What's up with Ade? Can't we just bung him in and can always come off after an hour if fitness issues

Naughton at right back for me. Yes he did play against Tromsø and Cardiff, but he's a young lad and hasn't played that much this season so far. He didn't have the best game at left back against Cardiff, he should be motivated to show himself from a better side in his more natural position.

Kane behind Defoe in the attacking 3 if Defoe is fit again. Ade up front is another option if he's available and close to some fitness.

Probably means playing one or two out of Eriksen, Sig, Dembele, Paulinho and Townsend though. Unless we want to give a game to another youngster (McEvoy perhaps?). Or Dawkins could get a rare game.

Re: *** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Tues 24th Sep

Ryan Fredericks from the U21 might be the right back. Played Europa..

Re: *** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Tues 24th Sep

Kane isn't really a CF is he.

He looks best more as a #10/SS or cutting in from LF. His lack on any real physical qualities impairs him as a line leader.

Would like to give him another shot at least, something a bit different from Soldado and we could see the wide players offering a threat closer to goal more often. I also think Kane has got a goal in him sooner rather than later...

But I do agree he did look good in the the brief spell he had behind Soldado rotating out to the left, and he seems a more clever player when allowed to drop into space. I actually think Ade could also play that role as well if he is actually ever going to play for Spurs again.

There are 8 players there who could and should be competing for the first team or who have already played there some (I'm including Vlad, which I think is fair given his elite level experience - he's clearly a senior player.) So 8 full first squad/team players. That's pretty damn good for a supposed scratch team.

Naughton is the only player to play from yesterday. 3 reserve noobs and 1 new arrival noob isn't the end of the world. Beast will sort everything the fukk out anyway.

If we get beaten, fine. Lambert might have half an eye on this competition to lift the mood there since they've no chance of winning anything else, so losing against a fired up Villa playing for their season would be ok. Then just bring on Saturday.

No way Soldado should play. Thankfully AVB seem to realise this as well given that he said that no-one who played v Cardiff will play v Villa

Our bench tomorrow night could be very interesting.

When are Lennon and Chadli due back? Seems to be hardly any updates on Azza lately
