***TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR Vs MAN UNITED -OMT***

4-4-2 against Manchester United? who will probably play Rooney deep thus having 5 in the middle? sometimes i don't get it.

He clearly wasn't fit then, along with Sandro

The work rate of Saha and Ade is attrocious and we'll get flattened in the middle. Again.

Playing 2 upfront requires at least one of them to drop and help out in the middle (i.e. Rooney) and none of them have the discipline, work-rate or ability to do that.

Ade does not have atrocious work rate.

And he will be fit enough to take on Utd just 7 days later? He was terrible. Admitedly as was the rest of the side, but he did nothing to suggest he HAS to play at all.

And suggesting VDV doesnt HAVE to start isnt the same as suggesting we must play 2 up front

7 days does indeed imply a passage of time which can improve one's fitness. He mostly certainly can't be worse

He's our most creative player and one of the few capable of winning the game singlehandedly - and if fit you want to bench him? Ok then.

He did pick up a separate injury after the Arsenal game though so I'm not sure how fit he really is.

So playing vdv off ade requires vdv to drop back and help, yet people think vdv should stick closer to ade and play more off him?

I don't think people can really have it both ways...

I want to play the team best equipped to beat Man Utd.

There is nothing to say VDV is a "must" for that at all.

Fitness and stamina have been a persistent issue with him since he has been at the club. He didnt look anything like fit last weekend and certainly not creative either.

Unless he is 100% he is the sort of player that can be a hinderance, partcularly against a team like Utd. I dont believe he is 100% right now and could certainly cost us more than he helps.

I would consider Sandro/Livermore/Modric in midfield with Bale/Adebayor/Lennon ahead of them rather than VDV starting.

If he is fitter than last week he could well have a greater impact on the game as a sub

Assuming he's fit (which is not completely unreasonable to consider bearing in mind 7 nights have passed since the last game) - would you still like to see him on the bench or playing alongside Adebayor?

Thats a big assumption, one I dont buy into.

Given we also dont have Parker I think we need to be careful, and starting an unfit VDV is a gamble to far IMO.

To repeat myself. VdV can play several roles for us. The ability he has to drop into midfield and give us flexibility to change our system to a 4-5-1 if needed is one none of our current out and out strikers have.

Oh i agree, he can perform several roles, but performing some of them at the same time is more difficult. If he is dropping into midfield to shore us up and aid us in dominating possession, people will give him flack for not getting into goalscoring positions.

It is a dilemma i do not think he can win in some fans eyes.

im not really that excited about todays game, not cos im apprehensive but i just cant get motivated - maybe a few drinks will sort it out. I am looking forward to watching us play 44 fudgein 2 with Lennon tearing Evera a new one and Bale tearing whoever two new ones and Defoe along up top with Ade
