Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

What would people prefer we accepted:

1) 79m lump sum?

2) 86m 3 instalments?

86m. It's more money. :p

We've managed to sign players without the 'lump sum' so the installments can be used to pay off the installments we've 'bought' players with.

Also a 'World record fee' is decent publicity.

Re: Gareth Bale

If he stays and with better players around him-how good could Gareth be this season?

As for instalments-Spain's economy is weak and the lucrative TV deals that RM have may be no longer allowed. Levy had experience with Portsmouth of struggling to get paid instalments.

There is a lottery prize in the USA where you can get (IIRC) $10 mill dollars a year for life or $50 mill up front. Most take the up front money

Not as good as he was last season. Ronaldo wasn't quite as good in his final year at United compared to the phenomal standard from his previous season.

Ultimately Bale has to play well otherwise clubs will start to lose interest if his form dips too much, but personally I can't see him showing the same desire.

I don't think he has kicked a ball since May, no pre season, no friendlies, no training??, and if RM are buying for 86m then their fans are going to expect him to hit the ground running. A poor couple of games and they may get on his back. CR7 isn't happy and runs the dressing room so the players could get on his back, in a new country with a young kid and he no speaka the lingo........it could all end in tears.

Money up front for me, invest over the 6 yr repayment plan and should be worth considerably more than 86m in 6 yrs (about 5% p.a compounded??)

Sent from my Stella haze so feel free to pull this to little pieces.

I sincerely do not believe GB is ready for this move. And I would take the hypothetical lump sum.

Remember mate, he played at Colchester and did do the early part of pre-season (when he was happy to stay, when his agent had given word)...all ceased in Hong Kong...

I agree. Lump sum, cash in hand. Personally don't care about the other stuff as we have already shown them!

2) 86m 3 instalments?

First one.

Difference in actual amount is smaller than it seems due to inflation/interest. It would also give us a lot more freedom in the next couple of transfer windows. In addition to that it would mean that we could ignore the risks, however small they may be, surrounding being owed such a large amount of money from a club in their amount of debt supported by banks in the Spanish economic situation.

That's for the accountants to figure out. If we could use the £79m to pay off loans early without penalty then we could feasibly save more than £7m in interest alone.

There's much more to it that just the headline figure.

Re: Gareth Bale

Indeed, and given the actual state of Spanish finances, a contract with stated figures doesn't do much for us. Cash please... as my new favorite song goes
Gareth Bale/Gareth Bale/He was born to PAY for Spurs/He was born to PAY for Spurs!

Re: Gareth Bale

It really looks like its going down to the last day.

Even if it does finally go through and the medis/SSN go into full-on w#nkfest mode, it has still meant they didnt really have a clue from July 1st and have been spouted sh#t for the last few weeks.

I do hope our fax doesnt play-up on Monday :-"

Re: Gareth Bale

Has that stage come down yet?

Gonna make my weekend if/when it does.

I know I will be getting stick at work either Monday or Tuesday, been telling them for weeks Bale will still be a Spurs player come Sept 2nd (wish I had said the 1st) and I would bet them all money if they wanted. Okay, it looks like I will be wrong come Tuesday, although the fat lady aint singing yet, but, at the end of the day thanks to Gareth Bale we have some great signings to ease the loss, so I hope to have the last laugh come next May
