Andros Townsend

Tottenham’s man-of-the-match Andros Townsend (‏@andros_townsend) is ecstatic: “Great win 5-0 tonight and always nice to get on the score sheet! Hopefully I can continue to do the same when next given chance #coys”

I am happy that we have both Lennon and Townsend

So am i, but depending on other arrivals i think townsend will feel too far down the pecking order. Lennon would still command a decent fee.

We've all got a pretty good gauge on Lennons ability as a player. I feel Townsend has all Lennon has and more. (is there a touch of the Robben's about him?)

I'll be honest, i'm a touch worried about him going and then regretting it.

Very well played Andros!

I can't see him going. AVB must be ecstatic that he has taken the bull by the horns to fight for a place in the first team through pre (and into the start of the) season.

Yup, but really think Townsend has the potential to e even better than Lennon .no doubt the naysayers will say that he only looks good against **** opposition but when has he had a chance to impress in the big games?

If AVB keeps to his word, and plays the man in form, the that is Townsend. If he doesn't start on Sunday, AVB will be playing "favourites" and it would be patently unfair on Townsend. If he isn't selected, if I were him after that performance, I would want to know what the hell I have to do to get in.

When did AVB say this as an absolute truth?

Could be playing favourites, or there could be... you know... tactical reasons and stuff. The kind of things managers occasionally think of before making a team selection.

Townsend made the exact right comment, posted above.

I hope to see Townsend start again, he excites me when on the pitch and he seems to be in form. I won't be outraged at AVB if it doesn't happen, I will assume he has his well thought out reasons.

After that performance, AVB simply has to pick him against Swansea. You can't do much more to claim a place than a MoM performance , a superb solo goal and strike, two unselfish assists with balls played in just the right place. If the manager does anything else it will be hugely demotivating for Andros, and if I were him, at that point, I would want out.

I would play him off the bench against Swansea tbh and play him from the start against Arsenal. I think that given the problem they are suffering in the centre of their defence and the lack of pace they have there, that he is ideal as an outball and someone who can run directly at the likes of Koscielny/Mertesacker and commit them. Even better for him if Vermelaen plays as is being speculated given his lack of fitness.

I agree.

Lennon was still one of our best and caused problems against Crystal Palace, sure Townsend was great against Tibilsi but Lennon hasn't really done anything to get dropped. Townsend has just given AVB a headache on who to pick. I think starting him agaisnt Arsenal though could be a real good idea, really does give them something different to think about.

So Naughton must start as well?

No, AVB will pick his best XI but he will not pick players because they are his mates.

Sure about that mate

Delighted he looks set to prove me wrong.

I never mind being proven wrong in this regard, only positive...I think he has shown the sort of desire & fight to improve recently that AVB cannot ignore.

Good for him. Good for Spurs. That's what matters eh!

lennon's had his chances, happy to try something new, at least townsend is more than a one trick pony

I think equally, it's dangerous to write Lennon off. He is a great player, has been really effective for us in the past and always needs a few games under his belt to really get roaring...
