Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

I think the most magnificent thing about how AVB and Levy have played this one since the MAIN bombshell right before Hong Kong, is how they have managed to make sure the club does not suffer, continues prospering, continues upgrading the quality of playing staff AND all without relying on Bale one way or another. Obviously Lewis loosening the coffers has helped, but we have really shown fantastic business this summer. How important will Baldini's signing prove to be? Already massive I think...at this point the club genuinely won't be 'broken' if Bale ends up going because we have done everything on the correct terms...ours! And the same if he stays!
;)

I agree that we've handled things well this summer. I think that it is likely that Bale will be off to balance the books a little but at least we have got our business done early(ish) and on our terms.

Re: Gareth Bale

It's simple to me and all the spurs fans I know

Sell our best player in a very very long time and bank the money would not be acceptable

Sell our best player in a very long time and get a world record fee that will allow us to assemble the best squad we have had in my life time and have change rattling round in our pockets.... F€$k Yeah

With the players we can buy with that cash we will be competing for the title. With Bale and the current players we could compete for the title but he may not play to the same level again and then what?

Take the money if its an acceptable offer and use it wisely which is what it looks like we're doing.

We're upgrading approximately 4/5 positions with the signings we have made and downgrading one. That's a great compromise to me

Re: Gareth Bale

The S*n: GARETH BALE’S world-record transfer to Real Madrid was all but sealed last night with Andre Villas-Boas working overtime on half-a-dozen signings

Re: Gareth Bale

To me, it's clear that there have been two major things which happened this summer.

1) Joe Lewis finally realized that if we want a new stadium we need naming rights, and if we want naming rights we need to do all we can to guarantee CL.

2) AVB turned around to Levy and Lewis and said he's stick around IF he actually GOT the support he needed to make it happen. In turn, the signing of Baldini, a man who can actually close a deal, plus the congruence between Baldini, AVB and Levy is such that to not act would be negligent. Add FFP plus the extra TV money/money not spunked in Jan on **** stop-gaps, and we are seeing the fruits.

I know there are some who don't believe it, and fair enough, but Bale & Barnett HAD committed to one more season here. Madrid played dirtier than anyone expected. Levy has done (IMO) ferociously well to NOT cave in. I am interested to see where this ends.

After the 2 near misses in the last 2 seasons, the realisation that not being regular CL qualifiers was having a direct effect on the forward progress of the NDP, Levy and Lewis were at an impasse.

Levy wanted a manager with long term potential (obv not Redknapp), to hopefully see us through a stadium build. Luckily AVB's first season proved he wasn't a dud. So this season they decided to back the manager and shoot higher than 4th to try and guarantee that there was no disappointment next season with the added bonus that AVB would feel engaged and fully supported by the club.

There are many clever people at our club, that think things through and have realistic goals and level heads. We have a strategy that is to be admired, we know a new stadium is the beeches brook but at least it looks like we're gonna attempt to jump it.

Bale has been the fly in the ointment. Looking like he would stay for 1 more year, AVB told he would not be sold. Then all the RM sh*t. BUT they've obviously sat down weighed up all the outcomes, devised strategies and not a hint of internal blow-ups like so many other clubs. And like many of us are thinking, life without Bale may just be alright.

Re: Gareth Bale

Apart from Milos point which is valid and I agree with, this is an excellent post.

Apart from one Emirates Marketing Project fan (and one 'Leeds' fan who never stops talking about City), every single person I work with is Man Utd and I had 3 different people make comment to me today that they really do see us as major challengers this season, even if we lose Bale.

Now, I don't think we will win the league quite yet but the squad we are assembling has a lot of legitimately serious danger to opposition teams in it from more than one focal point (Bale) as well as a much much stronger defensive shield from the midfield.

Add a WORLD CLASS goalkeeper to that and I can see why the whole league would rather we kept Bale and did no other business.

One player can have an off day or an injury and it all goes to ****.

I can't see that happening this season.

If we were to then end up keeping Bale? ****!!!

Am I reading this right? You think we need a world class keeper???

If so, I completely disagree. We have the best keeper in the league bar none. Hugo is exceptional. I was very sceptical about him when he came but he's outstanding.

  6 more to come in?

Re: Gareth Bale

anything above 60 mill for Bale is astounding money. The 93 mill being banded about is literally mind blowing. Most people involved in football are shocked by these figures and feel Spurs are doing great by getting so much for Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

you know what, i think if Bale does leave, in addition to Willian and Lamela, we will make one more big name signing and this time in the striker dept

come on down Jackson Martinez ;)

Don't know why people think Willian and Lamela are the replacements for Bale. Don't think we can find the player of Bale's quality to replace him. It will be a one step backward for us if we do sell Bale. I think Willian is more a replacement for Lennon while Lamela is the replacement for someone like Adebayor. Maybe we will sell Lennon to Liverpool for 30m and replace him with Willian and sell Adebayor for free and replace him with Lamela.:-k

Not when you consider his marketing value and how he raises the profile of the club.

Re: Gareth Bale

Yes, the money is obscene - utterly obscene.. But, if we can afford to spend what we have so far and what it looks like we might be adding on top of it then why not play tough and keep our prize asset?

I don't see it as bonkers provided our money is fine. More a signal of intent, a big fu to Madrid and others thinking they can take our players and a huge statement for the league that we mean to better ourselves and make up for the facts that despite a poor run a results in the latter parts of the last two seasons that we were kinda screwed over when it came to the rub of the green and getting cl football.

I mean it would take balls to refuse such an offer but I think if anyone could/would then Levy is the man to do so.

tickle my balls with a feather

i dont think we can, not the amount we have been splurging

what matters is that we become a CL regular and compete for the top prizes. With Bale yes we can do this, but if we sell him, with the clever buys we are making we can still do it but in a different way

Utd never directly replaced Ronaldo, but they made buys which kept them competitive and they still won league championships and other trophies

we cant directly replace Bale, but we can make the team and squad stronger overall and not be so reliant on one or two players

Re: Gareth Bale

Didn't they say he was gone a week ago

and the week before that and the week before that and also stated as a world exclusive that Ronaldo would sign for Man Utd on Aug 8th, hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmm

my ****hole knows more than the journo's do

Re: Gareth Bale

Let's be honest, it's bad to see him go. He's a huge matchwinner, biggest I've seen at Spurs in twenty years plus supporting but we have no choice and maybe it's best to let him go now while we get a huge fee and can do this kind of business we've been doing this summer. I'm past wanting one more year now really. I think we've got an agreement in place with Madrid and he'll be gone soon.
