Pre Season 2013

It's basically the same problems as last season but we don't have Gareth to Bale us out. Still playing the same system, still creating fudge all, still look terrible defending set-pieces. I wish we could quit game without saving and go back to January 2012 and redo the rest of the season

Positives for me today:

Soldado scored on his Spurs debut.

Chadli looked very useful.

Having Kaboul & Sandro back in action is like signing two new players.

Huddlestone's passing was sublime.

We didn't pick-up any injuries - the cut to Rose aside.

At times, we looked excellent going forward.

...................soldado
chadli.........dembele.........bale
..........paulinho.....sandro

for me would be good enough.

That's because you want Dembele's children, but for me he flatters to deceive. Great on the ball until he has to pass or shoot, or turn onto his right foot. He is a good player, but he isn't top class and never will be. He certainly isn't good enough to play the number 10 role in a team looking to challenge for CL places. He simply isn't creative enough, and simply doesn't score enough goals.

Do you honestly think we can challenge for a CL spot without Gareth Bale. If you do, then you are more deluded than I thought anyone could be. We might finish as high as 6th, there aren't that many good teams in the league, but we won't be in the battle for top 4.

Try adding a little positivity to your life.

Knee jerk over a pre season game

Lmao

Agreed.

I think some people on here underestimated Espanyol if they expected us to just steamroll them. Soldado and Paulinho's first game with the team, Chadli's second. Kaboul and Sandro returning from injury. Missing Bale of course. We're very far from our best and it's just a pre-season game.

We looked very good in patches, more average at other times. Seems natural to me. The game faded in the second half with some players tiring and quite a few subs made, fairly normal in pre-season.

Some very promising signs, particularly the first half an our of the first half.

One worry is our defending of set-pieces. Needs considerable work, will be interesting to see if we keep a zonal marking system when the league starts.

We defiantly need a creative player in there. A classic number 10

Sig has been given that role but he just isn't cutting it - maybe Holtby can be that creative spark but ideally I agree with you that it looks like we could do with someone to slice open those tough 10-behind the ball teams we will see at the lane

Personally i thought in the first half we played better football than we did the all of last season.

But it's a friendly against a Spanish side who's season doesn't start for a few more weeks yet.

Looks like we're locking up central midfield with solid, physical players. This means we are going to be heavily reliant on the width providing us with the additional goals to the striker, AND the creativity required. If Bale stays, I think we'll be OK. If he doesn't, then we may have brought in our best striker in years and have a team that can't provide him with the necessary service. An awful lot of pressure on Chadli. Paulinho isn't the player I thought (hoped?) he would be. I was hoping he'd be far more attack minded.

You're either short of sight, or short of memory. First half was frantic, but entertaining it was not. I am not worried. Next week is the real acid test.

Starts next weekend like the Prem

nice one touch passing, great link up play at times.

i dont remember much of that last season. In fact I do, at home to Everton. Funnily enough, we didnt have Bale then either.
