Comment: Tottenham Hotspur are looking at a deal for Botafogo defender Doria.

The centre back made his debut for Brazil at just 18 and is extremely highly-rated in his homeland, but Spurs would have to fork out a heavy fee for the youngster.

A third party are in the process of buying the youngster for €9million and are planning to give him a ‘shop window’ move to Porto or Benfica where they their investment will be returned many times over in the future when he is sold on in a big-money deal.

Botafogo would retain a percentage of the player’s economic rights, so Spurs have been told that they would need to stump up more cash to have any hope of winning the race for the wonderkid.

The Rio de Janeiro club would also hold out for a sell-on clause, as to not miss out on any potential future earnings.

Re: The Blue & Yellow ITK Bonanza Thread

Ganso not playing for his side tonight so i think it is because baldy is out there doing a deal with the club to sign him and they do not want him to get injured, blah blah.

Re: The Blue & Yellow ITK Bonanza Thread

Who is baldy?

Ganso has gone well off the boil from what ive read.

baldy is our new director of football

best time to get a player like ganso when their stock has fallen a little, he can have his rebirth at tottenham.

Re: The Blue & Yellow ITK Bonanza Thread

Good little recent article on Ganso:

Unmistakably gifted as a passer, Ganso's elegance of movement with the ball and vision were an indication of the midfielder’s quality.

It was these characteristics that prompted now Olympiakos scout Giovanni to take notice.

Coming through the youth ranks at Santos, Ganso made a mark on the first team along with fellow graduate Neymar.

This partnership and friendship off the field brought success back to the prestigious club by delivering the Campeonato Paulista and the Copa Brasil in 2010.

His consistent form at club level caught the attention of national boss Mano Menezes who called the youngster up for the country's friendly against the United States.

This scintillating form was ended after Ganso suffered a devastating cruciate ligament rupture in August 2010 that derailed and postponed hopes of a dream move to Italy.

The damage of the injury required surgery and this would rule the Brazilian out for six months. This was a period that was made seemingly tougher by the outstanding and transcending performances put on show almost weekly by Neymar.

As the fans welcomed the jovial and mischievous virtuoso effusively it was becoming increasingly obvious that the team was moving more towards giving Neymar creative freedom and making him the nucleus of the side.

With the club unwilling to meet the financial demands of the playmaker he took it upon himself to seek a move away.

São Paulo where a team seeking an adequate replacement for the Paris Saint-Germain bound Lucas Moura and Ganso fitted this description perfectly. A deal was eventually struck with Santos that saw the player leave for an undisclosed fee.

The 23 year old, who's talent has seen comparisons with Brazil's former Ballon d'or winner Kaka, had undoubtedly been overshadowed by the ever growing presence Neymar was having on the Brazilian game. The past has seen multiple suitors linked with his signature ranging from AC Milan to the more recent FC Porto.

A strong season in the Campeonato would do wonders to rekindle that interest and give Ganso the opportunity he unquestionably deserves to further develop his game in Europe.

It is a story of two friends with dreams of following in the footsteps of their idols but the circumstances allowed for drastically different paths.

Re: The Blue & Yellow ITK Bonanza Thread

I don't think we'll do anything more tbh. We've sorted our 3 problem areas (CF, LF, CM), and spent £50m doing so. If we sign any more it will just be Baldini kids from South America.

Flogging Parker, Hudd and Defoe is the next task.

Guesstimate? Does seem plausible ... Still think the club are looking for a LB if the stories are true. Would be happy to move a few on as well. But we will be back to square one if say we sold ade or defoe and dont replace with at least a quality up and coming striker.

I think AVB will consider LB a problem area to an extent, or at least one he'd like to upgrade on especially if Reals' LB is indeed available....

I think a defender. I do think we will get one more in. Can Kaboom be relied upon? He seems permanently injured then again I barely saw any pre season (yesterday he didnt play in second half - all I saw)

Agree we have to sell a couple but I think we will get a new LB.

Unless this Fryers kid can step up?

Yeah. But I think we've well exceeded most of our expectations. This 'what's next' is only being asked because we've done what people always complaint we don't, and sorted all our business early.

Re LB - compared with 12 months ago we've got BAE fit (he missed the first 6 months of last season remember), Rose back and Fryers now on board. I think that's a lot of good options tbh.

Re forwards - numbers weren't our problem last season, the quality of them was. Soldado, Ade, Dempsey + Coulthirst for one position is ample in my books. Remembering that Dempsey won't now be first choice for LF (Chadli), so he can be a genuine 3rd CF option.

Upgrading BAE, Dempsey, Ade and Friedel would be in my plans for the next 12 months, but I don't think we've got the money tp, and risk too much disruption, by doing any of that now.

It would not surprise me if we swapped a CB. We are one down after Gallas left but as you say Kaboul's fitness is an issue.

I wouldn't mind us selling Caulker and buying an upgrade. Caulker hasn't been very impressive for us so far -- looks quite slow, lumbering. Falls between two stools in that he isn't the Terry/Dawson type of defender, but neither is he in the Rio/Ledley mould either. I'm not really sure what he brings to the table other than being able to get on the end of the odd set-piece.

I think that Adebayor is more likely to leave than Defoe

There's a lot of talk of Soldado being "the solution to our long-term striker problem", but even if he's as good as we all hope, I'm not 100% sure we're out of the striker market yet. I can't see both Adebayor and Defoe staying so at least one of them will be off (maybe Adebayor to Besiktas if the papers are to be believed?). I don't think AVB will be happy with just Defoe as a backup to Soldado; if we're to challenge in the cups and Europa League as well as aim for the top three, then he'll want injury cover and the option to rotate / bring on an impact sub... as well as maintain competition for places. (I'm a fan of Dempsey, but I see him as best when he's playing off a striker, not as an ideal centre forward). Not sure if any of our youngsters are ready to step up and offer genuine choice and cover? If not, I you'd have to imagine a guy like Baldini will have identified at least one young, up-and-coming striker that he believes will be the next big thing. I just have a feeling we'll end up with a second (younger) striker by close of window.

But then, I'm a bit of an optimist.

I think we'll see some outgoings; maybe Huddlestone, Parker and Livermore. Which might see a young midfielder come in (McCarthy from Wigan would be my preference). Also I imagine we'll lose Gomes, which would mean potentially a young goalkeeper arriving? I'm not sure if Friedel can be relied on for another season as back-up to Lloris. Great if he can. Seriously, if he has another year in him then I'll be dead chuffed. But even if he does; what about next year? If Gomes is leaving as expected, then we need to start thinking about a long-term No. 2 goalkeeper. And while others insist that's not a priority, it's only "not a priority" while Lloris remains injury free.

I also think we might see another defender brought in. Gallas played 24 matches for us last season. Yes, Kaboul will hopefully cover them and more. But again, that's only relevant so long as all our defenders are injury free. We lose even one of them, we're back to where we were last year in defence, except we're now a man down without Gallas. There's also talk of Assou-Ekotto leaving. A mistake in my view, but perhaps we have a ready-made replacement in Rose or Fryers? (though some on this board suggest Fryers might not be as good as we'd hoped).

So it wouldn't surprise me if we see another one, or even two, defenders come in over the next few weeks.

If Soldado is confirmed, then would people think that our transfers this summer have addressed the problems of last season that were highlighted in terms of:

- lack of guile in certain games (and having to rely on a Bale wonderstrike to get us out of a hole)
- inability to dictate a game's tempo like we perhaps were better equipped to do with the passing ranges of Modric and VDV in the team
- our poor defending from set-pieces?

We did concede a fair number of goals last season and at crucial times - although it did improve in second half of season.

Caulker im not sold on.

Caulker is young, home grown and a full into. Would be stupid to sell him. More than adequate for the squad and plenty of time to develop. He hasn't set the world on fire but neither has he disgraced himself and the England staff obviously see something there.
