Lionel Messi

Champions league finalists.

11-12 Chelsea - Bayern Munich
10-11 Barcelona - Man United
09-10 Inter - Bayern Munich
08-09 Barcelona - Man United
07-08 Man United - Chelsea
06-07 Milan - Liverpool
05-06 Barcelona - Arsenal
04-05 Liverpool - Milan

So in the last 8 Seasons England have had 8 Finalists. England's recent performances aren't half bad you know.
The champions of our country have failed to get out of the group stages for two years running now - there is a definite downward spiral in the way our teams are performing in Europe as seen by the likes of all German teams progressing in Europe (both competitions). We've had a lot of finalists over the years as you say, but I think that English teams don't have as much about them anymore. Chelsea won it last year but now they're out as well!

I would say none of the top 4 teams in Europe are English.
I'd agree with that. While I think that there is a lot of strength in depth in our league (for example a team like Swansea pinching someone like Michu), I believe that Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are all better than our current league leaders in Manchester United.

It would be an absolute bloodbath.......

to Barcelona. Its a bit of a myth imo that Messi walks around without being touched when the reality is that he is often singled out for particularly aggressive treatment from the other team, including Real Madrid. Stoke would spend a huge amount of the match nowhere near the ball.

If Celtic can do it, anyone can! Would be interesting either way..

Apparently L'Equipe had Messi up as winner of the ballon d'or for 2012, but quickly removed it.

World's greatest dresser he is not.

But he wont..

The Economic Crime Unit of Barcelona has accused Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, and his father, of tax fraud between 2007 and 2009, which could potentially land them in jail. According to the prosecution, Messi’s father, who is also his manager and agent, created shell corporations in tax havens and then transferred his son’s imaging rights between 2007 and 2009, only to sign further deals with other shell-corporations to avoid paying taxes on €4.165 million ($5.53 million) in income.

A troubling accusation for the world’s best soccer player, and the sport’s foremost star. Messi, who netted $41.3 million in the year to June and was the world’s tenth-highest-paid athlete, must prove that his father didn’t engage in a complicated scheme to hide his earnings from Spanish tax authorities, where he currently resides.

Fixed.

He won't.

They'll get the money he owes them and some, and then send him back to continue generating more tax. Spain needs all the help it can get.

Maradona had the same tax evasion problem when he was playing for Napoli in Italy before. IIRC, the trial was still going on as recently as February this year, 22 long years after he had left Napoli.

If he goes to court,he be like that character Sting played in Quadraphina, when he was court........'who do i write the cheque out to'.

Its small change to him.

Ah, a good ol' fashioned shake down. 4-6 yr old 'crimes', not brought to light until the country needs money and has exhausted all options.
