The best Tottenham fan in the world thread

I think a bit too much is being read into what players say to the press. He was Probably just asked a question by a journalist and he came up with an on the spot answer without thinking much about it. He'll probably do another interview or press conference where he says the opposite!

If Defoe gets on the pitch, whether he plays well or plays badly, I doubt his comments will have made any difference at all to his performace.

I would rather our players just kept quiet this week, do their talking on the pitch and let their ****y pricks Szcezney and Wheelchair mouth off and come back to bite them.

How about post the interview, for a spot of context.

As for the one line of "Arsenal need north London derby win more", whats all the fuss about? They do, as far as Im concerned. A win for them still leaves them seven points behind us.

Our target this season was 4th.

Theirs was the quadruple.

Really not a big deal is it?

sometimes I long for the days pre-internet...

Its not a big deal at all.

Cracks me up how people dismiss certain things players say, and take other things as gospel. Its a bit of gamesmanship, thats it.

When our players come out and say, we are going for the title, everyone starts moaning about that too.

In full:

Jermain Defoe is confident Tottenham can secure their first derby double over Arsenal in almost 20 years when they go to Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The last time Spurs saw off their arch-rivals home and away was back in 1992/93, but there is every chance that barren run could come to an end this weekend - with a 2-1 victory having already been secured at White Hart Lane back in October.

Harry Redknapp's side make the short journey across north London sat 10 points clear of the Gunners in the Premier League standings.

With only one defeat having been suffered in their last 15 top-flight fixtures, there is feeling within the Spurs camp that their next fixture could offer them the chance to virtually wrap up UEFA Champions League qualification.

Defoe will not allow himself to get that carried away, but the England international is determined to help Tottenham edge one step closer towards that target.

"It's going to be a difficult game but I'm confident, obviously, with the way we're playing," he told radio station LBC 97.3.

"We've got a really strong squad now and everyone's playing well.

"Everyone's firing and team spirit is fantastic which I think is always important if you want to try to achieve something.

"We've got a great chance to go there and get three points."

There is no question that Tottenham head into derby day in better shape than their near neighbours, with Arsenal having endured demoralising defeats in the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup in their last two outings.

Defoe is aware that it would be foolish to write the Gunners off, though, with it important that Spurs do not allow complacency to set in.

"It means more to Arsenal than us obviously because of the way things have gone for them this season,"
he said.

"I think it's been a lot of ups and downs, where at the beginning they didn't start too well, then they picked it up and then they've had a little blip again."

He added: "I've always said they're a good team.

"You can't write Arsenal off. In football it's always the next game, you can change it in the next one. And I think, playing against us, it'll be a different Arsenal from what people have seen over the last few weeks."

I dont see the part where he says "We'll be happy with 4th".

Alot of Sun journo's posting on GG it seems

Please explain how any 3 pts for them is more important than us getting the 3 points. I want Tottenham to win the league, I want to at least get 2nd, thats far more important for a Tottenham player than them wanting 3pts.

Please explain where he actually said "any 3 pts for them is more important than us getting the 3 points"

Oh thats right, he didnt did he.

Defoe is displaying his usual lack of fight and will to win.
I'm glad we don't have to rely on him and have players who want to win at any cost like VDV and Parker.

What the living f#ck are you talking about?

Above is the article in full. Should have read it first, instead of just the title of a thread, and coming out swinging.

Nope

I'm saying no 3pts points for any opossing team we are playing, whatever the scenario, is more important than us getting the 3 pts.

A scenario you have created all on your own, which Defoe has said nothing even remotely similar to.

As a mod, maybe you should lock this. You are discussing something that didnt happen. Pointless.

Please explain how any 3 pts for them is more important than us getting the 3 points. I want Tottenham to win the league, I want to at least get 2nd, thats far more important for a Tottenham player than them wanting 3pts.

Because they are in decline, they are playing poorly, the manager is under fire, and the fans are getting restless and tinkled off. The morale of the team is obviously at a low and a home loss to us will drive the knife deeper, and the loss makes it harder for them to qualify for Europe.

Thats half a dozen reasons without thinking about it too hard.

If we draw or lose, its still possible - given our form to qualify, or with a poor run of results from city and manure to win the league.

I read the short headline to be a simple statement to that effect, rather than a confession of indifference

totman, you need to reign in your hostility somewhat. Thankyou.

I used what nearly everyone else sees in the media, the headline that was all over newsnow. The one that the majority of people will only look at.

So yes in the context of the chosen headline used by the media and across the majority of platforms, I'd rather like has been said.. Defoe said nothing at all.

I didn't come up with that line, I took it from how the media saw it and therefore how the majority of people will see it, and that is without reading the article.

How Defoe ment it be said is neither here or there as far as I am concerned, just how most will see it.

Edit. Yes I did read the article prior to starting the thread.

Hostility?

Pointing out that people are beating Defoe for something he didnt say?

Rightio. :ross:
