New Stadium and Training Ground - Pg 104 Northumberland Park master plan

Gutter Boy

Tim Sherwood
So, the club has officially returned to private hands today for the first time since October 1983: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16571738

There had been some suggestion on the thread on the old board that this was important to the new stadium because a) it would make it easier for ENIC to secure bigger loans and b) when they agree a naming rights deal, they won't now need to disclose the details (which the investor would obviously prefer).

If b) is the case then who knows, a naming rights deal (Qatar Airlines or whoever) might be announced sooner rather than later. The delisting might even have been a conditition of an already struck deal. We can hope anyway.

Wouldnt surprise me to see an announcement before the end of the season. I know its hard to get finance now but the Tavistock Group must have some leverage. Any costs associated with that would surely be offset by materials and labour being cheaper in the current climate.

business dealings have got nothing to do with the football season calendar. its a great time to close deals now as we ride high in the EPL... it should be exciting times for Levy, I expect a few cash rich sponsors from Asia/MiddleEast sensing the rare opportunity of branding a top club in the EPL.

O/T - Safe Standing - Villa looking into it

Aston Villa are apparently investigating the possibility of safe standing at Villa Park, according to The Birmingham Mail.

First Scottish clubs looking into, now this. Most likely to come to nothing but if more and more clubs start looking into it as a way to boost attendances, maybe, just maybe, it might gather enough momentum to stand :)cool:) a chance of being introduced.

they can look into it, but isn't there a premier league regulation that your stadium has to be all seater?

These arrests, spurs spying story

The problem is, they unearthed that West Ham were scamming the Commitee, and the bid collapsed. Two wrongs dont make a right? Not so sure in this case.

A fourth suspect has been arrested by detectives investigating allegations that Tottenham Hotspur spied on Olympic officials during its stadium bid.

Police said a 45-year-old man was being held at a south London station on suspicion of fraud after his property was searched.

West Ham United and the Olympic Park Legacy Company allege information was unlawfully obtained, the force said.

Spurs has denied putting officials under surveillance.

The club had lost out to West Ham in the race to become the Olympic Park Legacy Company's (OPLC) first choice to move into the stadium after the 2012 Games.

A deal with West Ham and Newham Council to use the stadium in Stratford, east London, collapsed in October.

The government announced that the stadium would instead remain in public ownership.

The Football Licensing Authority is required by law to make it a condition of the licence for use of specific stadiums that they are all-seater. The requirement for Villa Park (and WHL) are in The Football Spectators (Seating) Order 1994. Orders for other years cover promoted teams and new grounds.

As the article mentions, the idea would need the backing of football authorities and the government (as the law would have to be changed) which definitely wouldn't happen with just Villa asking for it. However... if enough clubs started toying with the idea and began asking about having the law changed... you never know.

I'm almost certain that in ten years from now we'll still be going to football matches in all seater stadiums, but, every story like this helps a tiny tiny bit.

As public money was involved in the Olympic Project any probing should be in the public interest. Unfortunately so many public figures and big companies have their noses in the throth a smokescreen is required and we would fit nicely

Exactly, if enough Premier League clubs want this to happen then the law might just be changed. There is no reason why standing in the Premier League is any less safe than standing in the Bundesliga, Championship or at a rugby league game. The more pressure the better.
