Mousa Dembele

Yes my jaw always dropped when I watched Fulham play and saw how he could dribble past players so easily. I've been wanting us to sign him for a long time.

He's actually much better than we've seen so far imo - still getting used to the team. Apparently Glenn Hoddle said he could be better than Modric and has a greater influence on the game. I'm not sure where he said that though.

Agree with this, he's played MUCH better for Fulham, and I've got such high expectations for him that I've been slightly disappointed in how he's played so far. I'm not saying that to be critical, just that I know he's got so much more to give....

I think he is superb but what impresses me mostly (and I really hat ethe defending side of games as I love attacking) is that the guy can defend. As someone mentioned on here earlier its as if the guy dares the opposition to take him on and easily swipes the ball off him.

I still want to see him further up field behind the striker but I guess will only happen if Thudd plays or get Moutinho or someone like that in January/next summer.

Im not so sure I want him just behind the stiker. He won't have as much space to drive into further up the field and isn't the best goalscorer although this of course can be improved. Plus considering how good he is defensively why not keep him CM? He has everything to be a world class CM....

You make a good point about the defensive side I guess I just think he could be playing the intricate through balls to Ade and to the left and right. Its good that we are flexible though and have some options.

Playing behind the striker is a specialist skill IMO, and one normally suited to a forward who drops deeper. Very few central midfielders can make the step up to play just behind the forward. Prime example is Paul Scholes. When Fergie tried to play him in a 4-4-1-1 in the Cantona/Sheringham role he was bloody awful and they stopped doing it after a few games.

Is he that good at playing those intricate through balls for forwards? I'm not saying he's not, I'm just asking the question as that's one thing I've not seen too much from him but if he is then great.

I love how flexible we are and I do think we've actually had a better window than most fans appreciate, even if we won't get to see this for a month or two yet....

I don't think Dembele is clinical enough to play behind the striker. Playing deeper suits his skill set much more in my opinion

I did see highlights of Dembele's performance against Man Utd the week before we signed him and I do now vaguely remember he impressed in a game against Arsenal last season but I not realise those two performances were indicative of how he played on a regular basis.

Did you guys know he was this good when he was at Fulham because I certainly did not?

Yup. Guilty. Noticed him when he made a mug of Daws on the touchline, dribbled into the centre and was then hacked down for a pen. Daws was sent off and we went down 0-4 in the cup. He was marked out as special by me that day.

PS I also think Lukaku is going to be the next Drog and would love to see him at the Lane.

Same here love him but he hates AVB so we will need to sack the manager, to be fair i can see why he was not played at chelsea last year because he is still raw. His own fault for going there, if i was a young player with no attachment to tottenham. Then i would move to spurs and play for us for a couple of seasons before then moving onto a club in the champs league.

Never ssure why these young players do it, to high opinion of themselves i guess. Rodwell should never have gone to city either.

So... I like this dembele fella, whoever I had been talking to when he signed (possibly Wriggly or mumorn. Sorry if I've forgotten you if not) was bang on, seems like a great player in his first few matches bloody amazing stats aswell.

finally a dribbler!

as others have pointed out dembele has been quite cautious in his initial games for us. and rightly so as he does carry alot of defensive responsibilities too.

this is one player you have to watch to believe, so in your spare time go search out his youtube videos and begin at the beginning, you will see he always had the skill, potential and cool-headed ness about him. he has matured a lot from his early days and you can see the progression... and he's still young!

previous world class players: vdv, modic and bale (upcoming)
current world class players: lloris, bale, dembele, verts (all upcoming)
