Mykhailo Mudryk

Isn't the £75 million option just a question of Chelsea protecting themselves against the (admittedly vanishingly small) chance that Mudryk demonstrates that he still has the abilities that led to them agreeing to pay up to £89 million for him more than 3 years ago? It would have been the height of madness on their part to agree a lower fee at this stage. Of course it is much more likely that by the end of this season Mudryk's perceived value will be less, very possibly significantly less, than the currently agreed £75 million and Spurs (and every other team) will have the option to offer a lower fee.

For the avoidance of doubt, I would much rather than we hadn't got ourselves in a position where we needed to turn to Mudryk as a left wing option. However, from what I've read it seems that we were pretty convinced that we were going to get Gakpo and that Ndaiye seemed a fairly bullet-proof alternative.
I think the very low fee for Tosin was based on us also taking Mudryk and putting him in the shop window for them.

Oh Savio is definitely levels above Mudryk. No doubt about that one. I’ve seen nothing about Mudryk to think that he’s Premier League level. Hopefully he will shut up myself and other critics but he has a lot to do.
If you've 'seen nothing' then you've seen very little of him. Even if you just watched compilations of him in the Premier League he has done plenty of things - yes, compilations don't tell the whole story but he has shown himself to be a threat.

It's not exactly difficult to work out why RDZ would want him when you look at his attributes and what he has to pick from with the rest of our attackers....

He looked strong on the ball

We are doing Chelsea a favour here, they know they haven't got the space to help him get back to his best so they have loaned him out to us, if he comes good they can refuse to sell him to us and keep him themselves.

I like the little feint right thing he does. Plenty of nutmegs in that vid also.

That is a decent highlights vid. If he didn't have that recent enforced sabbatical from football, I would be excited at the prospect of him playing for us. Let's hope he still has it.

Insane balance, there's a proper player in there. De Zerbi really focuses on repetition of playing patterns until it becomes automatic which could really iron out Mudryk's poor decision making. I'm actually quite excited about this guy.

Not trying to be a dingdong, but Mudryk would need to score 135 goals in the next 5 years to match Timo Werner's output.

Players don't suddenly fix bad football intelligence or poor decision making at 25

Our best hope is this guy can hold his own as cover, and that's after the 2-3 months he will need to get match fit ..

Two things;
I. That video shows nothing except he can beat a man and dribble for ten yards - it doesn't show what he does with the ball; which I suspect is often lose it
II. If you put subtitles on, it says Modric 🤔

Well if its an option it means it can be negotiated no? i thought that was the point of an option rather than an obligation?
My understanding is that an option means we can choose to buy or not at our own discretion, but an obligation means we have to buy regardless. In the first case, I don't think that Chelsea can pull the plug on a deal if we wish to proceed. That right has already been negotiated away.

Even just watching the first minute of that video is eye opening. Maybe I’m too caught up in the narratives about him. Maybe I forget how he truly was as it’s been time since he last played.

From here, I will see what he does for us and judge on that. I want him to succeed as that likely means that we succeed. So let’s hope my next post is to stand back and saying I was wrong to judge too soon, and get caught up in the wind against him.
