***Tottenham v Brentford OMT***

I know he’s there because of injuries etc but Moore isn’t ready for Prem level yet, he needs another decent loan if we get players back fit and available. Think he has a good future ahead of him, just don’t think he’s there yet, and that’s not just based on today but all of the minutes he’s had so far.

Honestly forgot he was on until he gave the ball away around 30 minutes.

I just don’t understand constantly whipping it into his feet and asking him to hold it up, you actually want him in the box to pounce on any chaos, he needs to have the least touches possible and just throw himself at snap chances.

Playing it into his feet with his back to goal just ends with him laying on the floor holding a body part.
You need the striker to be able to hold the ball to help pull the rest of the team up the pitch. Richy not being able to do so is a massive part of his failing. He can't just play as a pure poacher, that isn't going to work and he's not good enough to justify that either.

Richarlison Tel, Gallagher and Moore have been really poor. Bergvall doing what he does best, flashes of being good but more often than not gets caught on the ball in dangerous places. Robertson, Gray and Senesi the only ones for me who come off with any credit.

Tel is being doubled up on because he’s the only attacker who has looked even slightly like making something happen.

Well that's the optimism zapped. After a strong preseason I was expecting a lot more from the team even if it's far from our strongest lineup.

Richy cannot hold the ball up, Bergvall has been terrible and it's been far to easy for Brentford to simply pass through the team.

I'd be amazed if De Zerbi doesn't make a couple of changes at half time. First game of season so no need to panic but really hope we see a reaction 2nd half.

I agree and I get it, but its still not good enough.

Richy shouldn't be at this club opening day this season, let alone last, thats a failure
100%

And this is where the transfer committee show their incompetence.

The forward areas were so bereft last season they had to be the priority. Yet, we’ve added nothing there (by today) and have 2 kids and a traffic bollard behind Richy,

I agree in terms of what he needs to do, I just think we’ve proven now over a long period of time that it isn’t his game. He’s never going to stand up and hold it up. If we know that, I don’t understand playing him in a way we know he can’t play - so I just think either find a different way of playing, or, if we want to play a certain way and he can’t do it… don’t play him.

I know to a degree our hand is forced in we may not have players available, if Solanke is fit and holds it up better than fine. I just feel at the moment we’re telling Richy to do something he can’t, and then getting annoyed he isn’t.

Just a shame we don’t have a decent CF available to us.

See I never understand why anyone was getting hyped over preseason. They are literally training games with nothing at stake. Why would you do it to yourself? 🤣

Essentially the issues are pretty simple.

1) Van Hecke and Senesi are both ball-playing defenders, but neither are pacy or good in the air. Brentford realize this and are just pumping it into the channels for their faster, bigger forwards to chase, which means we are being pushed into the back foot consistently and unable to get a foothold in midfield.

2) Because they have to constantly run backwards, our players are not positioned close enough to each other to keep the ball, so a simple press gets it off us. And conversely, our pressing players start too far from them to be effective - by the time they reach the player, the ball is gone.

3) Technically, when we do have the ball, every player seems to need about a dozen touches before passing it, which means Brentford get set and can easily deal with any possession we do get.

Some of this will be improved with returning players - Van de Ven, Porro, Kudus. But some is inherent to the poor team selection (van Hecke-Senesi pairing causing issues all the way up the chain). Team needs rejigging for the second half - I'd personally hook Bergvall for Fernandes, van Hecke for Danso, and Gallagher for Solanke, and go two up top.

I think it's hard to judge any wide man, given what's going on behind him.

If him or Tel were constantly getting it and messing up/making bad decisions I'd cast judgement.
