I think that person is Ossoff. If you hear his speeches, there are echoes of Obama in them. IMO Newsom has scored too many recent own goals and is not going to be the candidate. He has lost his sheen.

He had a Boris Johnson style episode during Covid where he was going to fancy dinner parties when the state was locked down.
Gave preferential treatment to businesses owned by those who donated to him.
A lot blame him for wildfire mismanagement.
CA has record numbers of residents leaving the state.
Lots of public money happens to go to charities where his wife is on the board of directors.

Newsoms issue will be that he is from California and hes got a brick ton of baggage. But him just being tall good looking guy fits a suit well is half the battle as sad as that is.

Thats not how the US electoral system works. California is worth a lot of points due to its population (which may go down due to people leaving at high numbers fwiw) but its pretty much a lock that they will vote democrat. Could run a fish finger and it would win. Same as Texas for the Republicans.

It really comes down to a few swing states. Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania the main ones. Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina to a lesser extent. Look at these states. Less than 10k votes in Wisconsin. Less than 100k votes in most of them. Its really 500k-1M moderate swing voters in these 7 states that determine who wins the election base do who they decide to vote for or if they decide to vote. One of the things they will all agree on is that don't like California or want the country to be link California.

There have been many things that have turned me off him, but recently his dishonesty of pursuing a national billionaire tax (that will never happen), while working hammer and tongs to bury it at the state level (where he could have made it happen). It is a political con job. If the choice is him or Vance, I mean, there is no contest but dems can do better.

Lots of politicians have their missteps. He appears to support free and fair elections, whereas the Republican position often seems to be: if we lose, the election was rigged. The asymmetry is staggering.

Newsom has his faults, but I'd much rather see him—or another centrist—in office than AOC or anyone the Republicans are currently offering. At this point, the Republican Party seems to have abandoned its commitment to democratic norms.

Fair enough. I’d still prefer someone more centrist. America constantly swings from one extreme to another. The pendulum needs to land somewhere in the middle.

The last 3 (probably more) Democrat presidents have all been basically centrist rather than anything even moderately (by european standards) left, let alone socialist or that torpedo word 'communist' that the right and media throw at anyone who they don't like.

Over 6 million people illegally entered the US and remained illegally in the country during Bidens 4 year term. Illegal boarder crossings since Trump got in to office at in the thousands.
