J P van Hecke

Said it before. Would love to see VDV as a LB … his pace in attack would be devastating.

It’s like having a Ferrari and only pulling it out on a Sunday for a clean and then parking it back again.
Defending no, I want him in the Bale LWF role
Power, pace, can dribble, can shoot, can pass, can finish
Devastating !!

He can and Vuskovic is already better then Senesi, Danso, JPVH and VDV.

That's quite a claim but I must admit I have only seen a few highlights videos of him playing for Hamburg and I'm always sceptical about whether they give a fair representation. If he is that good then obviously he should be our first choice right sided CB and we really don't need Van Hecke.

Whys that?

I just feel like playing the way he does (with big risks, seemingly often punished) is something you can get away with at Brighton with their expectations but might lead to be eaten alive at WHL.

I have memories of ho Dier, Sanchez, Emerson Royal and Lloris were crucified at WHL when trying such risky things as defenders/defensive players..

I think sometimes solid safety first play works best before bringing in the risque stuff. I worry JPVH will be eaten alive at WHL doing what he does

Yeh fair, although if he is around better players who can pass, which is seemingly where we are going, then it might be all good.

Good luck to them.

70 million with a year left is nuts

It's not my money , so if RDZ wants him hope we pay what's needed, but I doubt it's going to be 70 million
Brighton always get good money for their players so in not surprised they want a fair old whack for this guy. Under Levy this deal wouldn't happen because neither side would be willing to budge, I guess we get to see what the new era are willing to do or are able to achieve.

But you're kind of talking about players trying to do something they weren't really capable of doing. None of the guys you mentioned were particularly great on the ball and even relative to their positions Lloris and Sanchez especially were really poor, whereas Van Hecke relative to his peers is a good technicien. That obviously doesn't mean he won't make mistakes or fudge up every now and again but it will be much more understandable when it does happens.

Surely, if JPVH is a good technician, it will be much LESS understandable if/when a bleep-up happens?

I mean in the sense that seeing a good technician consistently playing the passes well, when they do make a mistake it's because well of course they fudge it up they were poor even when they got away with it. It's a bit like with Kinsky against Athletico, yes he fudged with the ball at his feet but I wasn't that bothered by that because I knew he was genuinely good on the ball. I was more bothered by him not diving for the ball properly because hes been guilty of consistently not doing that previously.

Oh i see, i get what you mean

I think if you realise there is no player in the world that doesn't make a mistake then it will be easier to take.

Of course. But have you seen how we as fans are with players who do? Especially if it's seen that the risk/reward is simply not worth it?
If JPVH is a monster in terms of clearing set-peices, hardly allowing attackers to get shots off, then all will be fine even if he does give away balls when trying to thread a ball forwards.
But we are an unforgiving fanbase (with the scars over recent years to show we'll likely be much more unforgiving than normal).

I hope for his sake he is a monster defender first and foremost

I agree, said it before, not sure we have the bottle for half of whats needed to be a risk/reward side, despite craving it. We shall see
