J P van Hecke

Barcelona would actually make more sense, they play the highest line in football and need recovery pace more than they need a box defender. He would suit them in a similar way to how he suited Ange Spurs.

Hard to believe that Barca can afford him after breaking the bank on Gordon

Would be a great signing from what I know of him. One of the very few who think it’d be madness to sell Romero, but if we do then this is a reasonable replacement.

Interesting; why do you say this? What do you see in JPVH that means he'd be a reasonable replacement for Romero?

Two van men at the back eh?
Them, Danso, Senesi and Vuskovic seems a bit much for a campaign without Europe so maybe we'll see another sale or Luka being loaned again.

There's a Dutch journalist saying he's open to a move to us

He and Senesi are two of the defenders trying to play the most aggressive, forward, ambitious passes to progress play rather than knocking it around conservatively. If those two are partnered together, it absolutely opens the door for a slightly less creative central midfield (hence a role for Palhinha)

Interesting; thanks.

P.S. - How are they at actual defending in your view?

I've not seen very much of Van Hecke and think maybe he's playing in a slightly risky environment at Brighton with the style they adopt. But he seems to be good in the air and naturally be one that moves forward rather than instinctively being defensive - which is maybe an odd thing to say about a defender. Perhaps better phrased as he appears to like playing on the front-foot, pressing forward to deal with opponents. His CB partner is very important to be able to cover for spaces he leaves behind, assuming he plays in the same way with us as at Brighton.
Wouldn't say he's stood out as being amazing at, say tackling or interceptions. Senesi is good at intercepting IIRC.
Think Ange would have loved him!
