Andy Robertson

From a playing perspective, it’s underwhelming. Robertson is not a top player any more and I’d have Udogie over him every day of the week. Robertson is a decent option though.

However, VV spoke about the need to have the right players, right experience and right characters in the squad. Robertson is a decent enough player to contribute and, by all accounts, he’s a top character and is experienced. I’d imagine that’s why we want him.

Robertson is way past his best. The only good reason to sign him is to save on transfer fe and, maybe, wages.

Otherwise why don't we sign a bonafide Leftback who can make Udogie surplus to requirements immediately?
And this after buying the teenager Souza, what happens to him??

Liverpool fans have been saying it for over a year mate, its no Myth
I've heard the opposite from Liverpool fans. The ones I have spike to have said he is better than Kerkez and they think Kerkez is only in the team because Slot spent so much money on him he'd be asked questions if he was still playing Robertson after spending all that money.

I've always found it amusing how many people on here automatically turn their noses up at experienced players.

This is the sort of signing that Harry Redknapp would've made for us. Harry knows how important it is to have the right characters on the training ground, in the dressing room and on the pitch. I think we currently have a poor culture amongst the first team. A culture of not giving 100% in ever game. We need players like Robertson to change that. I also think reports of his 'legs having gone' are wide of the mark. He was in and out of the Liverpool team last season (mainly out) and it is hard to play consistently well when that happens. I still maintain that he'll largely be first choice left back for Spurs next season and we'll be all the better for it.

He will be the first player in history to beat father time, its not against logic to know his best years are behind him. I can't remember Redknapp making that kind of signing TBH, maybe he did, for me it goes back to the days of when we singed players like Poyet in the 90s and they were good for a few games then ultimately they got leggy.

He is a winner, he has a great mentality, so if the theory of having winners in the dressing room helps (I don't buy it once they have had their best days gone) then fine, but honestly its a signing thats not for me.

Its not turning a nose up, its just not seeing the game the same

There will always be fans who are clueless (my friends who I trust say he has regressed) but a look at some of their forums and it doesn't make great reading:

Thats just three of upteen opinions.

Look he will get my support when here, but I am faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from convinced

A lot of assumptions there.
Who says Robertson is coming in as first choice.
Why can't we sign another top lb.
Robertson is unlikely to be our top signing.
Personally I would not be anywhere near Robertson, but the window isn't even open yet so it's a bit premature to be throwing shade on it.

It's not that Robertson is coming in as first choice - it is that he will essentially become first choice mate, regardless of what we plan to use him as.

The reason is - Udogie is a sicknote that is injured 9 days out of 10. So, his 'backup/rotation', is in effect, his replacement because he will play the majority of games.

This is how we have fallen so far from 2017 to present. We buy a cheap, lower-grade backup in the thinking that he won't play much. Then something happens to our first-choice player (either an injury or a sale), and this backup ends up becoming the starter. And then standards drop to the level of the backup. Then we repeat the process by buying an even worse player to be *his* backup.

The way out of it is to do the opposite of this. Don't cheap out on a freebie 32-year-old whose legs have gone and whom Liverpool are delighted to get shot of. Instead, buy a top class left-back to bench Udogie. That raises the standard - repeat across the team.

I would rather that 100%

I think the whole idea of someone coming in as a winner is flawed also, we have had it before and the impression doesn't last, in fact we end up usually with an acrimonious comment at the end about how its not XYZ of a club. For me I would get rid of anyone with scar tissue or thinking about bringing in another clubs ex legend and bring in hungry players who want to create their own legacy.
