João Palhinha

I really hope we do the deal and keep him.

He’s popped up with some important goals this season and that’s not even really his game - he got us 4 points from Wolves, he’s got the job done today and that’s aside from him roaming about doing what he does best.

More than anything we need more mentalities in the squad like his. We don’t always need to buy young players, we need a few like Joao in there to balance us and to give us some guts and guile as well.

Player of the season for me.

Genuinely think we would be mad not to sign him, even at full price (which I doubt because his choices seem to be us and Sporting).

Experience, gives a brick, puts it all out there, would be even better when he isn't needed every game, someone Gray would do well to learn from.

We need someone more technical than him in that midfield.

But his heart kept us up. Don't make the mistake we made with Ange, where we cut ties with someone the whole squad depended on for leadership.

Bring him in on a permanent. Doesn't have to start every week (GHod, I hope he doesn't), but just having him in the squad and closing out games will make a huge difference to our mentality.

£26m would be an absolute bargain for him. He’s already more than paid that transfer fee to us for what he’s given us this past month.

It all depends on the plans for midfield but I agree he should be a serious purchase decision
He can help us close out games

I love him, but is there room in the squad for him, Bentancur and Gallagher (plus Sarr, Gray and Bergvall)? None of them very progressive passers.

Nobody will mind it Sarr goes. He’s had his chance and he won’t make it to the next level. So we then have five players for the midfield two, of which two are also options to cover for Xavi and Maddison as a ten, and one is also a utility defender. That’s not excessive, is it? Even without Europe.

Think Sarr has failed to move up the level he promised, he's closer to Gallagher's age than Gray & Bergvall.

Bissouma is out of contract, if we move Sarr on and especially considering Xavi and Odobert won't be back until 2nd half of season, easy to find room for 2-3 incoming midfielders, even more so if one of the incoming is HG qualified

I think this manager recognizes what he can do and doesn't worry about what he can't do. My assertion was always that he is a player who allows others to be themselves with a bit more 'ease'...if we sign the right calibre of players, he is a very important part of the squad IMO IF we can keep him...

It’s more that I don’t think playing two out of Bentancur / Palhinha / Gallagher will work very well in the long term - none of them are very progressive passers.
