Is Supporting Spurs Bad for Your Health

Got to echo the sentiments about the old ground. Its probably the performances over the past couple of seasons but the atmosphere at the new stadium has been pretty toxic recently with a couple of notable exceptions. I don`t know what the rest of you think but me and my sons think the Europa league semi final first leg atmosphere against Bodo was the best in recent memory. The last season at the old Lane was probably one of the best I have seen and I have been a supporter for nearly 60 years now. What I would give to see us go undefeated at home now!
And @ Paxtonwolf keep your chin up, supporters like you are what makes the club so special. I dont think I would be going to as many games you and your missus go to if I lived as far away from London as you do, not to mention the money it costs to go to games these days.
And without sounding too much like a kiss ass I have always thought your posts on this forum are level headed and not to hysterical win or lose. We are all prone to knee jerk comments when we lose or see a poor performance but IMHO you posts are generally down to earth. Don`t let this poor season get to you too much. I for one will look forward to your post whether we are in the Prem or not next season. Whatever happens I am pretty certain we will be seeing posts from all the regular posters whatever happens in our last couple of games

Appreciate the comments. Cost is becoming the biggest issue these days. We used to stay over at the Premier Inn quite regualar, coming down straight after work on a Friday, but everything is spiralling. the room cost, petrol, snacks there and back, toll road fee, this ULEZ charge these days and then parking. With your two tickets and you are talking £250-300 for a home game before you book a room, so we started doing the round trip on the day.
As I am talking 54 years as a Spurs fan I assume we are pretty much a similar age, so you will appreciate doing the 200 mile each way drive can get a bit of a chore these days. It may not be the true defintion of a fan but a game is televised we tend to stay on watch at home in comfort.

That said should the unthinkable happen and we do go down, it sounds daft, but we may be tempted to come back down more often, Ticket pricing will be very interesting thats for sure.

Tbh, after yesterdays result and last weeks gritty display, I am actually quite confident we can get a win tonight. I loved seeing the passion in the guys after just winning tackles and that will-to-win that seemed lacking for the previous months.

Some great posts on here.

I don’t think it’s bad for my health albeit our possible relegation has given me some sleepless nights and occupied my work days more than I’ll ever admit to my employer.

Thing is, it gets me feeling things. There are lots of emotions wrapped up in this season. Anger, frustration, stress, anger, relief. Maybe even a little optimism at the start. And that’s why I love football and this club, it makes me feel things. And all the brick of the last few months…well last week at Villa was elation not far removed from Ajax in 2019 or Arsenal in 2022. That might sound ridiculous but even the lows are a springboard for a release of euphoria when something goes our way.

Over here, most people support Liverpool, United or Celtic. So growing up, Tottenham was my thing. And I still have that to a degree. The people that know me know I’m a fan. And I love that. But I also absolutely love blending in amongst 50,000 like minded people on the High Road or in the stadium on the days I can get over. It’s a magic feeling and I’ve never once been treated as anything other than 100% Spurs by the locals despite the fact I talk with a funny accent.

It’s the longest relationship I’ve had, it runs deep in me and I honestly believe it is character building. I see a lot of United and Dipper fans over here say “ah, I’m not even going to watch it coz we aren’t in the mix”. They’ve a sense of entitlement Spurs don’t have.

Danny Kelly summed it up well recently. Said he’d been getting brick over our impending relegation and he said “you know what, it really doesn’t matter. Whatever division Spurs are in, they’ll still be Spurs and they’ll still be my club and always will be.”

Couldn’t agree more.

Appreciate the reply. And I totally get what you mean about old WHL. I appreciate we have to move with the times, but leaving the old stadium was gutting, even moreso after we went unbeaten in the league that season
rainbow at the end was a nice touch!

old whl was the ark

It will forever be a part of me. Has been for over 50 conscious years. You don't lose that. I have said it before, the crescendo of crisis for me was Nov 2019 when we sacked Pochettino as I knew the wilderness we were about to wander into...the thing which does my head in the most these days is the divisiveness within the fan base at times, utterly crushing and does fudge with me to a degree. I don't allow it to affect my weekends/whenever as much as it used to, and have found a way to quickly move beyond any lasting hurt of games. I am not the hugest Danny Kelly fan but I love that quote offered earlier and feel the same. Of course I want us to stay in the Prem, but if we don't, this is still my club and always will be...

...as for the old Lane...yeah...I was literally the last person in the Paxton to leave that final day. A younger steward tried to move me along about 30 mins after the game and I snapped at them, told them this was my church (I was tearing up) and an older senior steward (in charge) ushered the other steward away, put his arm around me and said he understood, led me back out the front of the lower Paxton and let me just sit there by myself for sometime. I did not want to leave. I had so many amazing times at WHL -especially (glory glory) nights that yes, it's loss is similar to that of my parents in so much as something which seemed so immortal as a youth is now just a whisper in history and dust in time. I do find that hard sometimes...yet the new stadium is a tremendous feat and they did very well to incorporate concrete from the old in the new where possible...but yes. It is not the the Lane and never could be...
