People will still ridicule the idea of aliens, of course, but the evidence is become quite compelling.
I'm not invested either way, but I do find it weird how dismissive some people are of other forms of life....

I don't think people are, I think they are of the so called evidence that is served up. Well I am for sure.

There is no doubt in my mind there is life out there, there has to be, but are they visiting us or living among us? Hell no.

We live in a technology age with Ring door bells, HD phones, CCTV everywhere, dash cams and people literally on high power telescopes every day and no one has picked up anything that isn't 1960s looking grainy photos. If in this age there isn't one clear photo by chance or luck, at the very least, then I think the odds that we are being visited is slim to none.

The counter to your point is people want to believe so much they will see whatever they want to see, I know @WillWeEverBeGoodAgain is hugely invested in the idea and wants to believe, so he likely will regardless of the evidence. BTW thats not a dig, everyone needs an interest and its harmless..........

These species (and I appreciate it comes down to whether you believe or not) are meant to be far superior technologically so being able to track them or get a good image when they move a hell of a lot quicker than us would be difficult to say the least.

Why wouldn't other species visit us considering us humans are trying to do the very same thing to other planets?

But thats the great convenience of the argument isn't it? You have not seen them because........insert reason

How do we know, given the boundaries and limits of space travel and knowledge, how do we know what these species are and are not meant to be? There is nothing other than anecdotal theories about what others may or may not look like.

Its all very much IMO like the GHod theory, he exists because people say he exists rather than any real rational thought process behind it and a bunch of convenience behind the "why we have not seen anything of note"

I am not digging you or others out here BTW, I am just explaining my view

Why wouldn't other species visit us considering us humans are trying to do the very same thing to other planets?

Because if you read the human history behind why we travel, its started as travel to explore, travel to trade and resulted in what we see now, travel to conquer, even our MO about Mars (if you can really believe its possible..........its not) is about conquer. I suspect if the other species travelled here we would have known just by the universal idea of conquer, I am sure they would have made it known at some point or maybe its my cynical thought process of the human race, but I just don't believe in the perfect storm story that they come here undetected because they are a super race and then leave, it just smacks of the creative side of the brain and the imagination factor that gave us films about it.

That's all fair, I'm not invested enough to make compelling arguments either way - I just don't find it unbelievable that other forms have visited earth, wherever there is currently clear picture evidence or not.

But I don't dismiss the idea that there hasnt been such interaction either, it's not a subject I've spent great time on and am always open to arguments on both sides...

I just have a very and maybe overly simplistic view on it, but I just think its like anything thats maybe too good to be true in that its laced with conveniences

Anyway, time for a Saturday Fry...............

Who’s to know exactly where these crafts are from, but they do display capabilities far far beyond anything humanity is even remotely close to creating. These aren’t drones or advanced helicopters. It’s something else entirely, and this according to highly ranked US Air Force and marine officials (as well as from similar from across the world). In addition there is the video footage released now by the American government, verifiably captured by military bases or military vehicles. Again, this is kind of «fear fear fear», but you’ll hear testimonies from these pilots and marine officers and whatnot, worth a watch.

I think we’re so ingrained in this belief that there can’t possibly be other lifeforms visiting us and have been since we were small it’s too hard to conceive of. Think of a civilization possibly thousands of years ahead of us - is it impossible that they could defy the laws of physics as we know them and come to visit us from wherever they may come from?

My opinion. If we get to the technological point where we can do interstellar travel within a meaningful timeframe (days or weeks rather than years decades).
We'd have also reached a point where there is less reason to do so.
Where we can create our own realities/universes to live in.
All our senses are basically electricity going to the brain. We could basically create the matrix and live as gods. Where the physical laws of this universe don't apply.
So why bother exploring the universe and expose ourselves to risk? When we can just protect ourselves and trip the fudge out.

Because it's who we are.... If I may, Ill quote Carl Sagan

“For all its material advantages, the sedentary life has left us edgy, unfulfilled. Even after 400 generations in villages and cities, we haven’t forgotten. The open road still softly calls, like a nearly forgotten song of childhood. We invest far-off places with a certain romance. This appeal, I suspect, has been meticulously crafted by natural selection as an essential element in our survival. Long summers, mild winters, rich harvests, plentiful game—none of them lasts forever. It is beyond our powers to predict the future. Catastrophic events have a way of sneaking up on us, of catching us unaware. Your own life, or your band’s, or even your species’ might be owed to a restless few—drawn, by a craving they can hardly articulate or understand, to undiscovered lands and new worlds. Herman Melville, in Moby dingdong, spoke for wanderers in all epochs and meridians: ‘I am tormented with an everlasting itch for things remote. I love to sail forbidden seas . . .”
— Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot

A great point, I think, but also: we are a tiny incredibly dumb species compared to the vastness of the universe. Seeing as we know fudge all, how could our intelligence, however much developed, scale to that of the universe and emulate it anywhere near what might be out there? Playing GTA is awesome, but going to Los Angeles or wherever will always be more interesting. «Reality» or whatever you want to call it will always be more enticing, in my opinion - we want the truth, and not some cheap immitation! But personally, being the scared little man that I am, I would definitely settle for your solution.

So, what is the real universe? If this is a simulation from somewhere, then that somewhere might be a simulation from somewhere else and so on. It doesn't really matter what we call "real" or not, in my opinion, it becomes a bit of an oxymoron once you open the "simulation" can of worms. Let's say this is a simulation - who are we to know the properties of this particular one? We can look at it and try to calculate and sort of try to project into the future, but who's to know anything for certain if our world is simulated? People that have done large amounts of DMT or have had out of body experiences or near death experiences describe their experiences as "more real than reality" and that they have been experiencing some sort of ultimate reality. Then what is this?

Then again, if we don't know the properties of the simulation or who is running it - who knows what might happen next week or a year from now? We might build incredible computers that can simulate universes one day, and we might already be in one, or we might also be a very dumb species that can only dream of being able to build those computers - or maybe both! Our experience in the universe is a great fudging mystery, and I don't think we'll solve it any time soon, haha. Everything is up for grabs though - who knows anything? Mankind may fly by their own accord within a few hundred years for all we know.

So you agree any universe we create could be no less real than our current one. Even one we create where we are gods who are not restricted by physical laws?

Yes, and I see your point, and you're right, of course. Maybe we already are exploring the universe from a safe distance. Pretty brick game this is, though! All these negative feelings, killings, war and hatred. If we could go anywhere and create anything in the universe, why this brick? Then again, it's hard to imagine the reasonings of beings (probably) far far superior to ourselves.

Who says they are superior? They might be more technologically advanced than us but that doesn't mean they don't have idiots.
Trump has access to systems and equipment far superior than most. Doesn't mean he is intelectually superior to Einstein, Newton or Archimiledes.
Could be some spooty kid in his mums basement seeing what would happen.

We call him GHod though.

Haha, yes, some pimpled kids who got the source code generated by crappy AI. We’re screwed (as if we didn’t already know it).
