Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Why were the alternative candidates going to have that impact?

Are you answering my question with a question suggesting that the same could be said of other candidates? if so, why not just state that as your belief?!
Again, do you genuinely believe Reform are going to positively impact the lives and living standards of those they purport to represent? If so, I have a glorious igloo in the Sahara to sell...

I think the choices are terrible, stated that plenty, but I am still keen to understand what people are voting for in Reform beyond their immigration promises. More than happy to see the depth beyond the top line "they are all just racist".....

It's the same grift from the same grifter isn't it. He's a brilliant social manipulator. In some ways I admire the bastahd, I mean hats off, he's doing it again. If people are simply going to allow him a 5 million 'gift' with 'no strings attached' and NOT be concerned, I think that says everything we need to know.

I think personally people are falling for the simplicity of it, the top line "Brexit" and its playing out again with the immigration promises. But I honestly think people don't know anything beyond that about their local councillors, who they are voting for, what policies mean for them day to day, maybe I am doing a disservice but I haven't seen much beyond the top line explained on here.

It was complained on here that people don't engage on a level and its bullying/belittling, so I am really keen to understand peoples mindset and what drove their voting in this election, it can't just be national headline topics, surely??

I sadly believe it is national headline topics. Like you, I'd love a more rational set of reasons...

Its interesting how these local elections have been fought, I just had a look at some of the material that has been used in Essex and Thurrock and it seems alot of national rhetoric has been used to fight at a local council level which is a shame because I think there is ALOT to do locally beyond national politics, which is the back bone of being a councillor.

There will be alot of good nuts and bolts councillors who would have lost their place, people who worked hard to fight for local interest, my only hope is those that have won carry on some of the good work (I am not saying all of it has been good everywhere).

Starmer is done in my view. Now it's when, and who, and whether they find someone different from the disaster of the current cabinet and leader.

Wrong personality type for 2026 sadly. Equally sadly, I am not sure there is a viable replacement. We are in the land of the loud and brash, the powerful orator who can steamroll any sub-point behind a legitimate concern, the nefarious power monger who can convince people both who their 'enemies' are and sell them igloos in deserts.

Apparently he kyboshed David Miliband return, many saying he was scared of him becoming a formidable leader, which I think he would be. But as that ship has sailed, then like you, I struggle to know who

Haringey now has a lot of Green councillors but no overall control, any chance Reform might use The Lane to house asylum seekers as a punishment for voting green, could be a money earner in between concerts :)

Just got to look and sound good on TV, there are a lot of gameshow hosts out there in with a chance. We live in a time where Ant & Dec could be PM and chancellor.
