Cristian Romero

Bit harsh. Think his card has been marked by officials and commentators in this country and tackles/fouls he makes that might warrant a stern lecture/yellow for other players get him a red. He will be fine in Spain I think, which is where I think he will go this summer especially if we can get £55-60m

I think you just need to look at the way Joelinton is treated by referees and media compared to Romero. Romero dives into tackles recklessly and often looking to gain revenge for previous tackles, to me Joelinton appears just to want to hurt people for no reason other than him being a thug.

I agree with a lot of that, and maybe I should have been more specific. He was dependable under Ange after the red card against Cheat$ki.

I also think RDZ could be the guy that really unlocks the best from him on a weekly basis. Romero is the type who respects strength, but will go rogue if allowed to. RDZ will shut that down at the first sign of it happening.

But as long as we received 60 mil, I’d be ok with him leaving. Danso is a very capable replacement, as would be Senesi on a free.
Senesi is left footed and would be a VDV alternate... Romero's logical would be Vuskovic...

I may be in the minority here but i really hope Romero stays.
He is one of my favorite players in the current squad (tbh it's a pretty low bar though) because he has a little bit of that old school centre-back nastiness about him as well as being a maverick too.

I believe a lot of the negativity on here about him is due to him not being a traditional English-style CB. He's not the blood-and-thunder, chest out type but more of a quiet, calculating assassin who is curiously better on the ball than without it.

But in a truly big game, such as the EL Final, there is just about no other CB in the world I would rather have on the pitch than Romero.

Saying that, I do believe his card has been marked so if we were offered 60ml and he wanted to leave I would wish him the best and cash in.

Ca n not disagree with any of that, if he wants to go and kicks up a fuss about it would be sad. But i really hope we see him in a Spurs shirt next season guess we will have to wait and see

Think that he is an elite player and would excel in an elite team where he wouldn’t have to make rash decisions or speak to the media or have to set an example. Unfortunately we are well below elite team status.

We just cannot afford to carry any player to be sent off as frequently or be as injured as him.

My example comparatively is Sergio Ramos, absolute clam of a player, would do the brickhousery and get sent off but would get a pass as Madrid could cope with it. We just can’t.

Perhaps he has his cards marked but then it’s on him to adjust , but he can’t. I like the player. Just wrong player wrong time for me.

And yes he will go to athletico and be a top top defender under Simeone.

perhaps but he has to be more disciplined and play for the team
dezerbi is a huge disciplinarian and romero sometimes to me looks like his head has gotten too big

i'd rather sell romero and keep dezerbi

How did Romero play in the early days under Conte & Ange when it was going well? He goes rogue when what’s infront of him is not working.

It shouldn't be a choice of one or the other, but I completely agree that the player needs to get things sorted.

There is also an argument to say that Romero needs to play more for his own designated position and less for the team. He has been trying to do too much since we've not been a great side. I can imagine in him in a side where we are scoring goals and the midfielders are doing their job better. I can imagine a Romero where his biggest priority is to keep clean sheets. Do we see a different Romero then?

That's a pretty lame excuse even if true, and just highlights why he is not a top player. A captain, and top players are the ones who rise above it when things aren't going well and lead by example and show their quality. Plenty of players look good when everything is going well.

No matter who the manager is, whether we are playing well or not he is always liable to doing something rash. In the early days under Conte? He was sent off in Contes first match in charge after 29 minutes against the might of Vitesse :D On his day he is very good, but he all too often is unreliable on the pitch and is not going to change....

Whilst I love Cuti’s passion, I’m finding it interesting that RDZ is using Madders as the squad cheerleader and not the club captain. I could be jumping the gun a bit, but surely the captain should be leading from the bench/sidelines? Or is he not in the country at the moment?

I remember seeing him in the stands for one of our home games under RDZ, probably Brighton I'm thinking of....

I think we'll find that the squad generally like Madders more as a person, and Romero is perhaps more 'feared' than liked (speculation I must add).
I do think De Zerbi could be a great manager for Romero in terms of getting him onside with doing what's needed...

It's a great question. I think we can definitely over-analyse these equations. There could be logical reasons why Romero's hasn't been around at times. I believe Vic has but he's not exactly been bouncing around pitch side like Madds in his hernia recovery.

I think the most important question is whether Madds is fit enough to actually make a cameo appearance on the pitch. We are now in a situation where we are well stacked with defenders and midfielders but have lost most of our attackers. Madds can easily play the leader / mascot role without being named in the 20 man squad. That would imply he is fit enough to cameo. Let's hope so.
