Gareth Bale

I think he did dive on this occasion, although arguably because he was off balance because he saw the challenge coming and tried to get out of the way. I agree he shouldn't be a martyr and allow himself to be injured just to win a free kick, but if you jump out the way anticipating a tackle that never comes, then you should just get back up and try and win the ball back, rather than throwing yourself to the turf hoping for a free kick. He has dived a few times and I hope he cuts it out.
 
im all for any of our players diving out of the way of challenges. Bale has already suffered 2 or 3 nasty injuries due to being hacked down by opponents and i fully understand him being wary of it happening again

the very best, quick moving players always have to take evasive action to avoid being hurt, has always happened. I have no problem with this. Thugs like Skytel, Agger, Adam etc will continue to cause serious damage if players dont protect themselves by diving out of the way

ridiculous criticism of Bale by starting this thread. What do you want, Bale or any of our players to be out for a year with a ruptured ankle or knee????? criticise him for his miss at the end by all means, but to have a go at him wanting to protect himself??..wowwww
 
Honestly I'm not mad at Bale. He will have to occasionally do such a thing and would not be surprised in the least if Harry himself would be instructing him to do so in an attempt to avoid serious injury. Diving and cheating is foul play. But is not being chopped into two pieces by players determined to leave their mark?

I want to see the Spurs lads have his back more often. tinkled me off seeing all the liverpool lads around Bale and it took ages for our boys to have his back. I think young Jake was the only one 'up' for it. I'm liking Livermore more and more, in terms of his attitude.

Couldnt disagree more. Yes Bale was anticipating getting chopped and got out the way, but when he landed he knew he wasnt touched and still tried to get the foul against him. He should have got up and held his hand up. Thats the difference, he tried to cheat.
 
I don't know why he bothers with the play acting.

Withdrawing, through a dive or not and then rushing back to feet should be his strategy. He certainly shouldn't be play-acting after hitting the deck.

I fully understand why he pulls out and we shouldn't waste any time complaining each and every time c*nts like Agger and Adams try to do him over.

Shocking to see fans trying to justfy his actions yet in the same breath slating Ronaldo, Drogba, Nani, etc the rest for doing exactly the same over the years.

Jumping out of the way from a malicious kick is one thing. Pretending he was hurt was pathetic and inexcusable whichever way people want to spin in. Players of his talent and stature need not be associated with play acting, cheating, and diving.

Play the way Messi does - get on with the game and keep your head down.

I agree Arc. Messi gets hacked just as much as Bale does and he just uses it as fuel to succeed. I don't want to see any player in a Spurs shirt taking a tumble to gain an advantage.
 
I admire him as much for his remarkable talent with the ball as I do for his persona and character

Never hear some flimflam tabloid story about screwing his mate's bird's mom, or a bar fight with a DJ, or some lingerie model claiming pregnancy, or drugs or, car crashes, or throwing darts at his mates. Never retaliates, swears, chirps, kicks ankles, elbows, etc. - keeps his head down and plays the game. Let the ref deal with the rest. Role model for all the right reason, fantastic person and leader overall

Agree 100%

Yes, I know it's technically a foul even if there was no contact, but Bale should have landed, got up, and got on with it. He's good enough not to need to play-act. Scotty Parker should take young Gareth to one side and tell him to man the f**k up.
 
I must admit I am all for a dive. When I play on sundays I always go over when I know someone is gonna chop me. Just my natural instinct now as it IS part of the game, albeit no one wants it to be part of the game.

If you think about it, there have been worse dives over the years (Klinsmann in the 90s) that were actually given free kicks. Even Pro Evo Soccer on the PS3 you can create your own dive. You take the diving out of the game, you take the fun out of the game.

ps - im only joking, I never condone it, but I do do it. but then I also chop like Parker so im a fairy pussy as well as tough tackler. I say embrace both

im all for it as long he doesnt overdo it like Klinsmann used to, or Busquets does now. If a bit of play acting gets runts like Skyrtel, Agger or Adam booked or sent off, then so be it. There is no place in the game for horrible dirty tacklers like them.

Clumsy challenges, malicious challenges, always hounding the ref, even quite often knowing full well that they had gone into challenges with intent. Add to that, accusing Spurs players of diving every time they got tackled. Disgusting behavior. In no way did I feel Spurs deserved to win this game, but boy did Liverpool deserve to lose.

Mate, watch it again. Yes it looks like Agger is going to hack him, but it's not as if Bale leaps out the way to avoid getting hurt. He barely changes his running pattern / direction, and just falls forward. Maybe if it had been Parker or Livermore I would give them the benefit of the doubt, but let's be honest - Bale dives A LOT. He wasn't avoiding the hack, he just fell over.

I love Bale as a player, and he seems like a decent guy off the pitch, but it pains me to see him diving, and it pains me even more to see fans trying to defend it Wenger-style.
 
every top team has a diver or two. Probably it goes hand in hand

In short, I reckon he's a pansy.
 
Just look at the picture earlier in this thread, it shows how Agger completely misses the ball and keeps going for the player. I can agree that Bale has in the past gone down softly at times, but there Agger was blatantly going in for the kick.

good point and it could have an impact on his behaviour, and again, in the big scheme of things who cares. As long as he is scoring and assisting and generally ripping defences apart il forgive him for any other indiscretion

and the dramatics that ensued ....it looked like agger tried to provoke bale by calling him something (pansy?) as a kind of "offensive defense", to deflect attention from his failed tackle that could have caused a lot of harm.
 
Lock and send this thread to Classics and officialy declare 'diving' ok to do and never to criticise our opponents again when they do it
