It could be a loan to ride out the injury issues we haveIt's just terrible squad planning. We have about 7 similar players to him, yet no starting LW
He has more goals and assists than any of our CM’s over a 10 season period. As i said before, he will instantly walk into our team and be far our best midfielder.
We likely wouldnt have enough changes to get him into our CL squad, which has to be a factor on short term puntsIt could be a loan to ride out the injury issues we have
why we need to improve in the prem - the players turning up in the CL are doing the job.We likely wouldnt have enough changes to get him into our CL squad, which has to be a factor on short term punts

It doesn't matter if we sign anyone or not, some people will be unhappy.
He's a good player, experienced, will absolutely bring something, but
- Not the profile we need/are crying out for
- Even moving on Biss and Bentancur would leave you with him, Gallagher and likely Palhinha (can't see us not taking up the option)
- He won't be able to play every game, so rotation option (like Danso, not a bad thing)
If we signed someone of Goretzka's profile (age/experience/ability level) that was just a bit more aligned to the gaps in squad, people absolutely would be happy.
If we sign no one despite the team being in a rut, tons of injuries and us just cashed 43M for making top 4 in CL, people have all the right to be angry
No - we should only be buying players of good quality who will improve us. Most of our players are back around March time, which would mean if we were to purchase players purely just to get numbers in they wouldn't be needed in a month or two time and we can't afford to just waste money like this.Do you think we should buy someone even if no one we want is available?
That is not the issue though, we require a progressive passer, which Goetzka is not.He would walk into this team and easily be our best midfielder.
Of course they will, winning on games like football manager[ and the like] makes them all experts. It doesn't matter if we sign anyone or not, some people will be unhappy.
That was the huge red flag when they asked Paratici what his preferred style/system was, in a Spurs interview, and he said "Thomas Frank is the manager now so my style/system is whatever he wants, I just match players to what the manager wants and needs"That's what I can't get my head round in modern football, there are so many suits doing jobs a club manager use to do.
If the "Technical Director" is responsible for identifying signings and developing players he must also play a part in selecting a style or tactic of play along with recruiting a manager who fits that template.

Is it though? The one thing a DF cannot do is get the coach to change his style or system. That is absolutely a non-starter.That was the huge red flag when they asked Paratici what his preferred style/system was, in a Spurs interview, and he said "Thomas Frank is the manager now so my style/system is whatever he wants, I just match players to what the manager wants and needs"
Er, that is the wrong way round Fabio!

The style issue comes when the manager is chosen - once that happens, any player purchased must align with the manager's wants and needs....
But there is an alternative view that says the DoF develops a strategy to match a club's DNA from the first team to all the teams below. Is it though? The one thing a DF cannot do is get the coach to change his style or system. That is absolutely a non-starter.
