We couldn't even win there when we were miles better than them under Poch, we realistically had little hope winning yesterday given how they have improved even since last season. Cursed at that place...sigh...
I guess the difference with Poch is that he also whilst wanting to be solid when going there, he also believed having an attacking plan was part of a defence..

Think we said it earlier. Poch had players in attacking areas that had extreme defensive smarts. When you have Eriksen, Dele and Kane in your line-up it makes it so much easier for the guys behind them to get forward. That was even with a defensive dumbass like Sonny along side them. I lost count of the amount of times that Eriksen or Dele would just drop in and become the 6. Even if they couldn't destroy, they would hold play up and allow the others to get set back into position. A younger Kane was so much more interested in that defensive perspective as well. Then we became a team under Jose and Conte where Kane, Moura and Son just didn't pull their weight defensively. I could barely watch the first 30 mins of any match with their disinterest in defending from the front, especially under Conte. I was rope a dope as the forwards just preserved their energy so they could be MOTD superstars in the second halves of matches. That was always going to fall to pieces eventually.
Thing is, when Ange arrived I thought we were back to 10 outfield players busting a gut. We would be back to the Poch years. Under Frank, I genuinely think he's trying to find the balance between having a super fit 20 man match day squad versus having an injury list as long as your arm. I'm theorising that the lower intensity we see on the pitch stems from that.

When we were passive and waiting for them to attack us, they did at will an easily
When we pressed and put a modicum of attacking effort in we created a tiny amount of momentum and they were backpedaling
But we stopped that quickly

Poch had world class players in a lot of roles (depending on your WC definition)
We are a long way from having that again
That is highly debatable had we had triggered the clause in the summer, before the Havertz injury.
And you think managers make decisions simply because a player phones them up?
If the arse had wanted to sign him in the summer they would have done so because they ended up paying exactly the release clause anyway.

He also had them in a period where they could carry 2-3 seasons of high intensity and then he burnt them out. Not blaming him, but he had no squad depth but wanted high press, high intensity football. Poch operated with 15 / 16 players max. Eriksen was world class in the early days. The Eriksen that left the club was anything but. As the club's best player, I think once you end in front of your back four as Sissoko's water carrier then your attitude can change. It wasn't the same as Vic, Dier, Dembele, Dele etc all doing anything for each other for the benefit of the team. Hojbjerg was no different. Just played for himself. Aurier another.
We had some amazing attitudes from our players around 2017. They had WC abilities and they had the right attitudes,

Crazy to think that Eze had more xG yesterday than our entire team managed in those 180+ minutes plus the Bournemouth game put together!!

Eberechi Eze scored a historic hat-trick in his first north London derby against Tottenham on Sunday, continuing his fine start to life at Arsenal.
Eze had twice as many shots (six) as any other player in the game, and twice as many as all of Spurs’ players managed between them, with his 0.66 xG almost 10 times the amount Tottenham accumulated (0.07 xG).

Despite playing 797 of a possible 1,080 minutes in the Premier League this season, Eze has had more shots (25) than any other Arsenal player. As was the case on Sunday and for that assist against City, many of his best, biggest and most important contributions have come in open play. Enzo Fernández (4.0) and Morgan Gibbs-White (2.3) are the only non-forwards/wingers ahead of Eze for open-play xG this season (1.9), but Eze has played at least 175 minutes less than either of them. And, as mentioned, he has done it while settling into a new team – and one who have had some issues with open-play chance creation.

I think people need to be realistic with where this team is in our development. We have lost two world class forwards in the last 2 years and we’ve not replaced either of them. Our forward line is dreadful. I don’t like the style of play that Frank is imposing on the team either but that doesn’t change the fact that the forwards are crap. Ange’s methods masked this as his style was so gung ho.

Yeah. We also sadly need to be realistic about where Arsenal are at now, even compared to last season.
Eze might well be the missing jigsaw for them to achieve big and horrible things.
That finishing yesterday was sublime especially with his unfavoured left foot.
Not excusing our lack of attacking recently, but the NLD is an emotional game but shouldn't cloud how we see where they are and where we are. All the more galling given a few years ago we were laughing looking down at them and Arteta

If City can remain within 6-9 points by March then I still think scum will get nervy but they’ve got to keep them within arms length otherwise they will run away with it. Let’s hope they don’t pick up too many trophies whilst they are a very good team.
Richarlison was Kane’s replacement but let’s be honest, he hasn’t worked out. I actually went into the 22/23 season thinking we could sneak third and maybe challenge but we slipped and Arsenal went to another level. It’s quite depressing

Hopefully the officials will balance things out in our favour / against the Goons over the next few weeks
