Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I’ve always wondered why the likes of Jordan, Egypt and the other Arab countries don’t take more Palestinian refugees in.

There's 3 million Palestinian refugees in Jordan. Compared to 5 million in Palestine.

The reason they don't take more is because that gives Israel the complete ethnic cleansing they want.

It's like saying 'why don't America take more Irish refugees, so Britain can finish Cromwell's protestant plantation plans?'.

If you find offensive the term "backward, illiberal brickhole" to describe places with no respect for human rights where where people are persecuted for not being a particular race, religion, sex, sexuality or political alignment (which I believe are the reasons for claiming asylum), then what term would you prefer to be used? Do you feel that the places people are claiming asylum to move from are forward thinking, liberal paradises?
If we take your description as a given, then beyond the numbers we should take, I'm wondering why it's taking so long to process the ones that have arrived?

How long ago was the plantation plan you mentioned?

Most people from the countries making up most of the arrivals don't have a passport in the first place.

Is there a cut off around age that makes it favourable to say you're younger?
Being under 18 means the government and the local council have a greater duty of care for you. You can't just be thrown into shared accommodation like adults can be, you have better travel allowances (as you're expected to attend school/college), you're not expected to find work and you have more protection under the ECHR than adults.

I know further education teachers who have taught EFL to a reasonably large number of men who claim to be under 18 and are obviously far, far older. It's quite common.

Who would ever have guessed that Boris Johnson made a complete mess of the country’s Covid response? Witty and Vallance don’t come out of it well either. And it’s confirmed that Cummmings is a clam.

In other news, bears found to have defecated in the woods and the Pope is suspected of following the Catholic religion.

And, as some were saying all along, lockdown was unnecessary.

you have to hand it to the tory party, twice in the last few years they have managed to gives the worst possible PM at the worst possible time

Hopefully Vallance will be made to resign as Science Minister with immediate effect, as he's making a big balls up of that at present

You get the govt the opposition deserves.

If you only have to be good enough to beat Gordon Brown, Ed "should have been his brother" Miliband and Jeremy Corbyn then you won't get much quality.

You may need to re-read it - I think you’ve misunderstood…again.
Pravda said:
The report says lockdown could have been avoided if steps such as social distancing and isolating those with symptoms along with members of their household had been introduced earlier than mid-March 2020.

This from the man who claimed in the early days of Covid - amongst a load of other absolute b ollocks - that it couldn’t be caught twice. 😂
It couldn't and can't.

Different strains can be caught, but unless one has some form of immunity problem, resistance to the strain will occur.

Otherwise the vaccines wouldn't work.

Corbyn I'll give you, but the other two would have been massive upgrades.
I think you must have quite a short memory.

Brown fudged the economy entirely in his time as Chancellor by trying to turn our regulatory system from a principles based one to a rules based one.

Miliband is just wet. I can't even think of enough words to describe him as he doesn't stay in my brain long enough. I've forgotten him before I finish typing his name. The only thing he has about him at all is that he's related to someone who may have made a decent PM
