Eberechi Eze

You sign him because you think he's better than what Kulu or Maddison offer. Neither are bullet proof selects for the more central attacking role.
Agree....but we have finite cash. And I think it could go elsewhere.

Having said that.....it was as recent as our last game that we were left with no number 10 and the we know the schedule will be busy - so there's an argument all 3 will get loads of game time.

Why? Their output is pretty similar. Not much between them. Swapping them would probably not make much difference. I know you don't like Maddison, but please be realistic. They're different players, but none of them is significantly better than the other.
Maddison had some great games for us last year
He also had some anonymous ones
If we want Maddison collecting the ball deep we have to accept he ain’t then popping up in the 10 role
His best games have been when he has been playing that role higher up and playing “instinctively”. He was the one who seemed to get free reign to play his game
Eze is similar in his style except he doesn’t come deep.
Both do the left drifting thing which would suit a 3-5-2 set up

None of us know how Frank will utilise the players, but I have a feeling that many will look significantly better.
Eze is a good player, but I don't think we'd suddenly become significantly better with him instead of Maddison.

Maddison had 9 goals and 7 assists in the PL.
Eze 8 goals 8 assists, playing 1000 minutes more, and in a side that finished well above us.....
Make of that what you want.

I’d add that Eze was playing in a Counter attacking side so there is that to factor in
The reason I like Eze is he plays the game at his pace
Maddison does too but Maddison has a huge issue issue playing left to right and it really negates some of our game

He is younger and more consistant.
I could be wrong but I think Maddison's numbers were better than Eze's last season?

I know it's not a popular opinion on here but I think Maddison is a better player than Eze. With Maddison being 28 and Eze being 27, they are both already at their peak. I don't think we should be paying £65m or so on a player that primarily plays from the left where we are already really well stocked for players.

Signing Kudus to provide direct competition on the right makes a lot more sense to me.

If we're looking for some cover and an eventual replacement for Maddison then Enzo Millot is the perfect buy. Right age profile, right skillset, should fit in well with our young French contingent and his stupidly low release clause makes the signing a no-brainer.

You rate Kudus?

I've not seen loads of him but in the games against us I think he's been pretty anonymous.....apart from maybe one goal. He has tools undoubtedly.

I love Madders, probably my favourite player. His edginess and will to win on the pitch is something we need going forward. I like Eze but I see them as having different strengths. Both could be accommodated at Spurs especially with the injuries we seem to get in that number 10 position.

The main issue with Maddison is arguably fitness. I think he needs his minutes managed. The other is inconsistency. I think that's partly an issue because we lack other players with his skill set leading to us being overly dependent on him, if he has an off game there's no one to really take up that part or if opponents manage to shut him out we end up stuck.

Another player with similar qualities would help a lot with all of those. Another Madd would be great. Ideally one without what I perceive to be fitness issues.

Eze seems similar enough, immediate impact, experience. But expensive, age and competition from other clubs may make it difficult/impossible.

Not quite sure who the best target would be other than Eze.

Yes. I think he has loads of good attributes that very few players have. Explosive pace, two good feet, great dribbling ability, abilty to receive the ball in tight spaces. He also plays in a position where I think we need to add competition, with us only really having Johnson who is capable of playing as a right sided attacker in the way that Frank likes to play.

If we had unlimited funds then I'd agree. But paying £65m for a player who IMO isn't as good as Maddison and tends to play in a position where we're already really well stocked doesn't make sense to me, especially when the player is already 27.

Don't get me wrong I think Eze is a good player and I could see why he would be a good signing for Arsenal (Martinelli is their weakest link IMO, I think he is a very average player). I just think we have a number of other priorities at Spurs. If we're worried about cover for Maddison then Enzo Millot's release clause is around £45 - £50m less than the transfer fee for Eze.

I don't understand it either. I doubt it's true.

Fans want him. Ok. But they want us to buy based on data. Yet the data shows maddison was better last season in the prem. In an inferior team.

Data is only a part of it. Maddison has been diappointing. Cause we see how good he can be when he's on form. £65m for a replacement when we also have kulu and donley? Nah.

Well as they say its all about op inions, but for me Eze is the better player.
