I don't understand it either. I doubt it's true.
Fans want him. Ok. But they want us to buy based on data. Yet the data shows maddison was better last season in the prem. In an inferior team.
Data is only a part of it. Maddison has been diappointing. Cause we see how good he can be when he's on form. £65m for a replacement when we also have kulu and donley? Nah.

I sort of do understand it if you look past the data. There are 2 key elements for me.
The first is making sure we're not projecting opinions on prospective players based on Ange's tactical system. He's left the building. Whatever stats you show above are based on how their teams were setup. I think you and I have had this conversation before but we had major "keep ball" issues with some of our players like Son and Johnson. Kulu's ability to retain the ball wasn't great at times either. Madds ended up getting deeper and deeper as one of the few that were "passers". That's my second point. Eze is the player that also drops deep and can retain the ball and find a team mate. He's a good passer and I can imagine working in tandem with Madds and Kulu could be amazing for us especially if the width starts coming back from the full-backs post Ange.
In some ways it's the same reason for building a case for Joao Gomes. He could also knit things together and keep the pass and move going especially if you want to get back to front quicker than we have been. I think that's going to be Frank's way.
There are actually very few players that operate at this level when it comes to first touch, peripheral vision, decision making and passing. It's why I have way more doubts about Kudus than Eze. Just wish their ages were the other way round.
