Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

ah I see what you mean, I had thought you meant we'd be getting a cast off from them.

Yea I agree with you, Mancini's getting punchy about not being able to spend when Utd and chelsea have, I don't know how he manages with the limited resources he's been given so far ?!!

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

Last week of the transfer window, Monday morning, Spurs made £30m over the weekend... I was absolutely sure the ITKs would be having a soapy tossfest this morning. How dull.

I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves if the club don't back him, I don't see how a manager can operate under such restraints.

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

It's a bit of surgery, but necessary.

King retired so Verts came in.
Sig replaced Krancjar.
Ade has become permanent.
Moutinho (or plan b i.e. Dembele or M'Villa) will replace Modric.

That's all like-for-like and essential (other than Sig maybe).

Of the others Friedel is creaking and does need to be replaced and all last season people were crying out for cover/competition for Bale and Lennon (Willian) and Ade (Leandro).

AVB inherited a squad with a lot of holes, and a lot of players on their last legs (King, Saha, Nelsen, Friedel, Cudicini, Gallas and Parker).

Hopefully after this big initial blast, things will settle down and we can grow more organically.

Agree, the main changes so far were necessary and more or less like-for-like. However, I feel some uneasiness because we seem to have let some people go without replacement.

Apart from the King/Vertonghen change, we seem to have elevated Caulker to replace both Dawson and Bassong/Nelsen. While King's unusual situation may have been the reason for a fifth CB, at the same time we have let our obvious emergency CB leave (Corluka) and the other may also be out this season (Huddlestone). Who would be emergency CB for us now (Walker, Sandro?).

As well as Kranjcar, Pienaar has also gone. With Modric gone, our left sided options to replace Bale have become severely reduced (to Townsend and Rose?). Signing Willian would have course solve this problem.

And we haven't replaced Pavlyuchenko or his temprary replacement, Saha. So another youth player is elevated to replace an established player unless we do business this week.

And while we have to assume that we will add to the midfield options with Mountinho or Dembele, it feels at this moment like we have gone from Modric and Huddlestone to Jenas in the non-DM, non-AM CM position (what word describes this CM position?).

Hopefully most of these holes will be filled when the window shuts. It does suggest that we should use the Modric money for more than one player, rather than putting most of it on Moutinho.

Parker should be good for one more season if not two. One of the fittest we had last season bar injuries.
but agree with your post otherwise

I think the big surprise will come from Emirates Marketing Project.

For the past 3 seasons Parker has been fantastic up till xmas, then burnt himself out and tailed off badly towards the end.

Becoming understudy to Sandro might increase his shelf-life though I guess.

There actually seems fairly general agreement on who we are after:

Lloris and Willian looking good for maybe mid-week.

Moutinho on Friday (with Dembele and possibly M'Villa also being approached as plan bs if we can't agree a price).

Leandro as a long shot icing on the cake, but more likely for January.

The papers are, same thing really. Planning our £80 million spending spree.

So AVB has got the 50mill transfer kitty he was promised when he signed and also the 30 mill Modric money.

So Dembele, Moutinho, Lloris and Willian will all be coming in with a little spare to sign a back up striker. . .

And pigs might fly.

I dunno if it has already been mentioned but SSN just mentioned that its a straight battled between us and the Scum for Cabaye and M'vila.

Would you guys think of Cabaye instead of Dembele or Moutinho?

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

Can't see the Toon selling Cabaye or have there been grumblings of him wanting to leave?

I cannot for the life of me imagine why Saudi Sportswashing Machine would sell Cabaye and I can't really see him requesting a move away whilst they are moving in the right direction, not even to the Scum. Maybe next season, but not this.

Especially as they haven't made any significant signings this summer.. unless thats a reason for Cabaye wanting out, if he even does?

A week or so a go apparently some of Newcastles top stars were not happy with the lack of playere coming i to build on last season but this could just be a load of crap to fill some space in the paper.

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

Cant see Cabaye moving now to be honest.

I would probably have Dembele and Moutinho over him. But i would have Cabaye over M`Vila.

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

Cabaye is more accomplished but for me I'd rather have Dembele, I just think he SUITS Spurs. The skills, the beating of a man with a burst of pace, just seems more of a Spurs player, can also fill a variety of positions, is younger too.

I believe our 25 man squad is now filled so from now on we're likely to see a one out, one in scenario. Or rather one in and one shoved out scenario.

Ideally I'd get shot of Gio, Jenas and Bentley. Gio as he's had his chance and also will be worth nothing when his contract runs out. Jenas as he's failed to deliver too many times. He's a good pro but just not good enough for where we want to be. Bentley as it just hasn't happened for him. Loan him if need be.

I'd keep Daws as he is the right tool for the job in some instances.
Rose needs a loan to develop.
Hudd might need some regular playing time too so a 6 month loan to Fulham as part of the Dembele deal joins the dots for me. I'd hate to see him playing for Stoke.
We have 4 keepers in the 25 squad which is one too many. Button to go on loan or not register him.
That's 6 spots there.

Agreed, I really will be annoyed if we spend £15m on M'Vila.

they are only 6 motnhs apart in age - surprising i know!

Dembele is 6"1 though, whereas Cabaye is only 5"8 - it would be nice to have some height in the CM across the board (Parker aside).

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

Oh really? yeah that is surprising. I thought Dembele was younger personally but oh well, he still has years and years left in him, they both do. Yeah height is always a good thing, Dembele, Sandro would be a good central midfield too

Just got me dreaming of a team of giants lol... Are there any world class full backs that are pretty tall? I mean do they all just end up getting shifted to CBs when they are growing up? I know Charlie was 6'+ but hardly world class. Can anyone think of any?
