Timo Werner

Strange one, was surprised when I saw it this morning. Always thought Werner was a bit like Havertz and Kiyech at Chelsea. Lads who I thought had talent but they were all very watery sort of players who you wouldn't want in the trenches with you. Be interesting to see what he's like with us - wouldn't be my choice and not expecting much but sort of intrigued.

I don't believe he'd be coming in if Ange wasn't good with it.

Ange has said he has a veto. He'll tell the scouting department what type of player he needs. They'll give him options then he'll go through to see which of them are acceptable. They then go and try and sign them.

Which makes sense. He was very strong earlier in the season saying no one gets brought in that he doesn't want.

Not an easy time to do business so if we need a forward, is there much else available?

Not a chance he would come if Ange wasn’t 100% behind it
Also sides around us wanted him too
Coaches see things fans don’t

Yep the way it’s always worked.

And Romano’s saying Ange has signed off on it FWIW

He can play out wide as well though, can't he, and maybe Johnson needs a bit of competition as he hasn't exactly been on fire for us lately. Also:

This isn't true though. Played 56 league games for Chelsea according to Wikipedia and Google and scored 10 goals. Scored a further 8 in 17 Champions League games and 2 in the League Cup. He struggled for them. Even if the stats didn't tell us that, anyone watching him for them could see it.

Doesn't mean he will with us though.

Edit: Confirmed by Transfermarket.co.uk too (https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/timo-werner/leistungsdaten/spieler/170527/plus/0?saison=2021). The assist numbers aren't correct either.

Goals and assists are correct according to transfermarkt. Go to overall balance and look at the right hand side it has stats for each club. 89 appearances but the tweet says starts not appearances.

Ah, you are right. I stand corrected. Thanks.

Stand by my point though - the stats are trying to paint a very rosy picture. The lad struggled for Chelsea.

With Bentancur, Lo Celso and Maddison supplying quick through balls and Werners pace and movement I could see it working well.... Unless.. He can't finish the chances

Always thought he was bang average, but, our signings have been mostly on point for quite a while now, so lets see.

There is no real evidence that he can, certainly not to a high and consistent level. When he was at Chelsea he struggled to stay onside.

Although he has scored over 150 goals in his career so far. But yeah, the Chelsea spell wasn't the best

But look at the manager and coach he had there
At least here he will have proper guys coaching him in a system
Here’s hoping, if it goes through.

Strong Frazier Campbell /classic Levy type January deal to me (i.e, cheap, convenient and destined to eventually underwhelm) but I’ll be very happy to be proved wrong - and will look forward to his goals leading us to a top four finish.

Yet we never hear you praise him for bringing in the likes of udogie or vicario? Funny that.
If you can be assed sifting through many threads on here you’ll see me saying enough positive things about him.

I’m realistic about his weaknesses though - and 20+ years of largely trophyless football, and multiple failures to invest in the football side at crucial moments, means that he can be criticised at times, imho.

My biggest worry about him is that he often repeats the same mistakes.

I must admit i have never really been impressed when i have seen Werner play, however if Ange wants him then so be it.
