The Official 2023/24 Premier League Thread

"Keane got the ball 25 yards out and crowd thought here we go again"

No Alan, dont worry, he wont score another goal like he did v Spurs last season.. Just like Lanzini wont score one like he did v us either

Grealish is such a wimp. I'll never forget that first game under Nuno where Tangana kicked and bullied him and Sterling out of the game, he's a Spurs legend for that.

Yellow for Grealish, love it. Although Everton are in second yellow territory for Branthwaite, Pickford and Patterson.

From The Grauniad:

88 mins: This has been an excellent 90 minutes for City, bar the Stones injury and the mistakes that led Everton opening the scoring. They have been the best team against a very good Everton team. This is not an easy fixture.

I am obviously biased, but I don't recall many people saying that this was not an easy fixture when we played it with 9 players out at the start and ending with only 1 regular member of the back four playing the second half.

He’s a really poor keeper. Always has been. I’d have said the fella sitting on Woolwich’s bench is miles ahead of him. Hard to make a case for him when he’s not playing though,

Agree and luckily for Pickford, Pope is injured. So he will probably still be no.1 for Euro 2024. Then its time for new blood, might be worth trying James Trafford for a few of the qualifying games for WC2026, or at least some of the needless friendlies

Watching Irish TV tonight and I’m despairing about the direction the game is going. Host is driving at Thomas Frank being under pressure. The man has done an unbelievable job to get Brentford in the Premier and kept them there. He’s dealing with a thin squad missing 10 players. fudge me.

Then there was talk over the last few days of Howe being under pressure too. Mad stuff.

Moyes at West Ham too. That’s fan led but where do those clams think they should be? 7th in the league and holders of the Conference League. fudge off back to the Championship where you belong.

Whatever managers get paid and get compensated, they deserve every penny. If any of us, any of the media, any of the players or any of the owners came under the same pressure as managers for a bad few weeks in our jobs, we’d all be in the nuthouse.

Howe is a good coach, but I don't think he is suitable for the Saudi Sportswashing Machine job.
He's suffering now because of raised expectations from last season and all the hype over the new owners.
He'd be a good replacement for Southgate when the f a get rid of him.

Maybe he isn't but I think it'd be crazy for him to be under pressure at this point. He's done an incredible job up there without spending truckloads of money. If you rule him out of Saudi Sportswashing Machine then Chelsea and probably City aren't jobs for him either. If you accept that, I don't think he's a million miles away from being a very serious contender for a Woolwich, Bin Dipper or Spurs job.

At Bournemouth, I admired what he did as he did do a superb job there but always thought they were soft defensively. He's sorted that at Saudi Sportswashing Machine which shows he's learned. He's also improved quite a few players up there (Almiron, Wilson, Joelinton and arguably Tripper, recent struggles notwithstanding, to name a few).

He's turned them from relegation candidates to CL challengers without spending bucketloads and without signing any massive stars.
