*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa FC ***

Yeah fair enough. I knew typing it that it might not go down too well and would meet with disagreement. To be honest, I think it’s almost impossible for any manager to really get us competing under this ownership model especially with 2-3 clubs cheating. I’m still loving Ange’s style, it’s a fantastic watch.
If the 2-3 clubs were punished and not allowed to cheat then we’d absolutely be competing and probably winning a fair few things. So there’s nothing wrong with the model as long as the rest of the league is policed correctly.

Second goal sums up Hojberg

Just standing in no mans land, doesn't move to close the player down, double up on Watkins or sense the danger behind.

Despite the loss you can see what we are trying to do, a lot more pluses than negatives, Lo Celso/Gil looked ok

Created enough to win, make shift defence switch off a couple of times and we lose.

Said it to the lads when we came out
We know now that Lo Celso can play the way we need
And bentacur can play the holding role
Gil also can do a job
Thats positives for me

Target has to be CL. Or else what’s the point.

You can’t always play the same way if you can’t always play the same players.

I don’t think we concede that first goal (or the offside Watkins header) if Dier is back there.

I love Royal, but he’s a fullback, or at a push an RCB in a three, a four needs a stopper.

I think thats a touch harsh he was very close to an assist today, that was a superb ball he put across for Son who just mistimed his header attempt

Yeah it's weird to lay in to Gill for today but sometimes venting needs a target I guess.
I’m surprised by the number of negative comments on here.

Yes: we were very wasteful in front of goal and our defending from set pieces terrible (how many free headers at goal did we give them? 3 at least).

However, our second and third string comfortably out played a Villa side that the media is busily ‘bigging up’ as a genuine top four contender. Any other day that’s an easy home win.

I’m disappointed and frustrated with the result but quite honestly I’d be far more concerned as a Villa fan than a Spurs one. I thought that the application of our players was excellent and we created so many chances first half. I don’t even know how many times we hit the woodwork or had marginal goals ruled out. Not to mention - yet again - opponents being allowed to kick our players around with impunity.

We don’t have the strength in depth to cope with the crazy number of injuries that we have but I love what we are trying to do and it’s infinitely better than last season. I am not sure where we will win our next game but
I’m confident that we recover our swagger and start to climb the league again once our
Players are back fit.

The crazy number of injuries aren't the problem, it's two injuries to key players that we can't replace in Micky and Maddison. Nobody's really bothered that Sess is injured or Phillips nor surprised that we've had suspensions the way we've been picking up yellows.

None of the stand ins have disgraced themselves and Ange is doing well to get what he is out of them but the gaps in the squad are there for all to see. Not his fault that he doesn't have good enough cover and at least we've seen a big ol' glimpse of what is possible when we have a strong team. Now without a strong team we're looking at four L's in a row, even with decent performances like against Chelsea you can't be surprised that people are reverting to type and moaning despite a lot of positives.

I'd still sell him! Glad he is here now. We need him. But he's not good enough to make the first 11 with everyone fit. If we can get 25-35m we should take it
Are you suggesting that as he is not good enough to make the first team when everyone is fit we should sell him?

It’s more the nature of the defeats than the defeats themselves, we were cruising in every game.

Apparently losing 3 in a row from leading positions is some kind of English football record.

Can’t be surprised for sure
But it’s so frustrating because an open minded fan can see rapid progress with limited tools

Doesn't matter how well we played. We lost! Meanwhile, united have deserved about 5 points in total, and are now 2 points off us.

I’d like to say I care more about style than points, but I don’t.

We have to get back in the CL, that’s where the real football is played, and the format change will only make the gap wider.

I’d rather be playing well and losing in unlucky circumstances than being pony and scamming wins. I seem to recall running that road with Conte for a lot of last season and it was no fun.

I don’t believe that we will play well and lose every week any more than I think that United will continue doing the opposite. Eventually we will pick up the wins we deserve.

Meanwhile, I hope that we can strengthen in the areas in which we are so obviously short.

There has been definite progress when it comes to our style, for sure - little when it comes to our mentality though, unfortunately. Still too many knocking around who are mentally weak and that’s never going to change for them. We won’t see real progress until they are shifted on.

As for Gil, who is getting plaudits here from some, he did just about okay (although personally I thought he looked most threatening when he was dribbling towards our goal, something he seemed to do endlessly in the first half); but he has made extremely limited progress in the long time that he’s been on our books. He is not built for the PL. Another who needs shifting as soon as possible.

How the hell did we lose this game?! Should've been 5-1 up after the first 20 minutes. So wasteful, but we sure as hell don't get much luck these days either.

I'm sure Bentancour will be out for months with another serious injury.

Still many positives, despite the frustrating result and another key player out injured. A much better performance than Wolves, with basically a second string midfield and central defence.

Don’t think the mentality was an issue myself
I think it yet again came down to who we had to play in certain roles

We conceded straight after scoring and got away with it due to a very tight offside call. We then went to sleep again for their second.

It was offside though
Same as sonny’s 3
If your off.. your off
That’s not luck that’s bad timing

Not sure how mentality TBH

I’d argue the mentality in better because the team kept on playing the football despite the limited players
