Sergio Reguilón

I disagree that he played it competently for the last 2 years in that role. That's why we replaced him with Reguilion, that's why once Reguilion was in place he never played that position anymore.

Those who might have made comments re his ability to play LCB were obviously those not aware that he played that for years for Wales. It was an obvious option and one that Mourinho didn't just pull out of his bum.

I don't recall a switch from Davies to Reggie being as absolute as that but openly admit to not being the best on the timelines of things.

Early on with Jose I absolutely remember Davies playing as a super conservative LB, and at times shapewise it became a bit like a unconventional back 3 without Davies playing as an out and out LCB but tactics and / or even the sheer mention of Jose are other cans of worms perhaps for other threads.

I guess on the Wales thing, the majority of posters who love chewing out hardworking dependable players like Ben would have a scoffed at the idea of him being up to the task of playing in a Conte back 3 in the PL - "It's one thing doing it for Wales against the Faroe Islands but another in the prem...." Etc etc

We probably won't reach much of an agreement on this one - That said, if Reggie goes on to form a successful part of a functioning Atletico backline this season I'll be partially swayed, but from what we have seen of him in our colours Davies is ahead at LB, LCB and even LWB despite him evidently not being a speed demon.

So did he pull up with injury for that last goal or did he just give up? If its the latter he should have his contract terminated immediately.

Think he cramped up but he was exposed pretty badly for 2 maybe 3 of the goals.

Nothing we didn't know, he's not going to be here, so it's a case of loan/sell him until contract runs out and move on.

Problem being is who is going to be Udogie's back up? Sess is out injured again and has not looked great since we signed him, Perisic is not a left back and Davies hasn't got the pace for the high line and getting back when we lose possession.

Think it's Davies (he's an even worse CB option)

I think we make it to January, likely we move Sess on once fit, Perisic will go at end of season anyway (don't see us renewing even if I expect he will play more than we think higher up), new LB has to be in next window or two.

I've generally been a fan of his work defensively but he looked absolutely lost yesterday. Seems to be unable to play in a higher line. I guess he worked well under Jose initially due to the sitting deep and lack of space in behind.

Maybe we could look at Dennis Cirkin coming back.

We need quality competition for Udogie, he's looked good pre season but will need to adjust and form is always a bit patchy for younger players too.

He pulled his hamstring on the 3rd goal, watch the replays. Then for the 4th he could barely walk. He was poor defensively last night and is too manic going forwards, I don't want him to play for us again.

They're only after a stop-gap as their first two options are out with injuries. Helps put him in the shop window, might even get some money for him next summer/Jan
